OK here is my version. To understand the current storyline, you need to know a bit about the past.

This show used to about Gayatri, a girl from a merchant family who married the King of Ameerkot, Rana Indravardhan Singh Deo. Gayatri became a queen, Rani Gayatri because she married the king. Eventually they had a daughter, who was also named Gayatri and was given the nickname Rani. However, the parents of this daughter Gayatri were killed by Kaal, who then became King of Ameerkot. Rani was basically a newborn baby at the time and her Dadi took her into hiding. Nobody knows she is the rightful Princess/Queen of Ameerkot.

Raja is the oldest son of Kaal, by his first wife and only legal wife, Ambika. Raja and Kaal hate each other, mostly because Badi Rani Maa has instigated them against each other for their whole lives. Badi Rani Maa was once the queen of Ameerkot; she was the second wife of Rana Indravardhan Singh Deo's grandfather. She has been plotting against everyone ever since her husband died.

Jeevan is the second son of Kaal, from his second wife who he never married, Queen Rageshwari. Jeevan's main characteristic is that he loves to eat. He and his brother Raja never got along. He is his father's favourite son because he goes out of his way to make himself look good.

Raja and Rani were childhood friends, but Badi Rani Maa made them misunderstand each other so they separated on bad terms. They have met again at college but don't know who they really are. Jeevan will try to use Rani against Raja for his own gain and because he likes to oppose Raja.
