#46: If you love it so much, then why don't you marry it?
Well, Dipstick came into their lives one fine Tuesday, when Twinkle was supposedly gone to the grocery store. But Twinkle is Twinkle and she really couldn't go a day without raising Kunj's BP or melting his heart to mush!
So instead of bringing home, Cheerios, fruits and yogurt she came home with a Great Dane puppy.
Oh she also tried to hide it from Kunj. But Dipstick's little whines were hard to miss and soon Kunj was holding the pup up in his arms, "Seriously Twinkle?"
"Haan toh aur kya karti, dipstick bechara, grocery store ke piche wale alley mein ro raha tha."
"Dipstick?" He raises an eyebrow in question
"Haan, Dipstick, iska naam! Dekho yeh pura grey brown hai pur iski tail white hai, issi liye."
Oh Lord! Kunj instantly knew it was too late to try and convince Twinkle now to get Dipstick' go. Once you give it a name, you are attached to it. It was Monster Inc. 101!
He pinches the bridge of his nose, sighing heavily. "Twinkle tu-" He starts with the intention of convincing her to give the dog up at a pet store, but now she is giving him the puppy dog eyes and the puppy is giving him the puppy dog eyes and he can't really win here, can he?
"Fine!"
She slaps her hands together excitedly, teaches Dipstick to give her a Hi-five and kisses Kunj's cheek in gratitude. "Main kal hi jaa ke, Dipstick ke liye ek customized collar bana ke aaogi!"
A week passes by and Dipstick is now the center of Twinkle's attention. Dipstick yeh, Dipstick woh..' All conversation revolved around Dipstick and Kunj was sick of it.
There was once a time when he used to be Twinkle's center of attention. He misses those times. The thought of kidnapping Dipstick and handing him off to the pet store had narrowly crossed his mind, but then he sees how much Twinkle loves the pup and he knows he couldn't hurt her like that.
"Kunj!" Twinkle yells from the front door, announcing her return from the store. He was glad she was back. Hopefully she brought back some snack with her, he was starving!
"Acha hua tu aa gayi, Twinkle. Kucj khaane ko layi hai. Bahut zoro ke bhookh gayi hai!"
"Kunj woh chodo, dekho mein kya layi hoon!" she tells and he prays that it is food. "Disptick ke liye naya chew toy!" she says, pulling out a rubbery yellow bone shaped toy. "Dipstick! Dipstick baby!" she calls out for the dog.
Well that cements the fact, he was replaced! Dipstick was the man in Twinkle's life now!
Also, Kunj has murder on his mind now. And he is pretty sure it's going to be a brown little barking thing!
He stomps away to the kitchen, pulling out a sauce pan and prepares himself some instant noodles. Once his stomach was satisfied and satiated, he thinks, that all he has to do to become Twinkle's man again is one-up that dog! He should take Twinkle on a date. Certainly that is something Dipstick can't do.
So he goes about setting his plan. A candle light dinner on a roof, Italian food because that is her favorite, Red and gold decorations, champagne and chocolate cake for dessert. Perfect!
Twinkle was cooking dinner when, Kunj enters the kitchen and wraps his arms around her waist. She sucks in a breath, surprised and then bows her head down in a blush.
"Hayye, tera blush!" he says huskily against her ear and places a tender kiss on her cheek.
"Kya hua? Aaj itna pyaar kyu aa raha hai, apni biwi par?" she asks, curiously.
"Pyaar toh mujhe, tuj par roz aata hai, par kya karo kamqbat kutta beech mein aa jata hai!" he tries his hand at shayari, and fails miserably!
Twinkle lets out a mighty laugh at that. "Acha?"
"Jee haan." He places his hands over hers to stir the contents in the pot. "Acha sunn na."
"Haan bolo."
"Main kya sooch raha tha, bahut time ho gaya hai humme date par gaye huay. Toh kyu na, aaj hum date par jaaye?"
She plays hard to get, until he closes the gap between them and her confidence fumbles. She agrees when they were a hairs breadth apart.
Step one successful.
So they went out the next day. Locked Dipstick up in a room, with ample food and water along with his chew toys and went out.
Kunj couldn't thank the God above him enough-one day free and away from the slobbering pup! He was feeling blessed.
They got the roof top table as he had requested at the Hilton, completed with red and gold decorations, and light jazz music. He pulls out a chair for her and she blushed in response. The date was going great so far. He complimented her looks and she called him dashingly handsome as ever. They joked and they laughed.
The waiter chose to interrupt them here, to drop by the menu card. As as Twinkle was habitual to it, she raises her gaze to meet that of the waiters and to give them a small thank-you. But as she did so, her eyes fell on the bone shaped tie pin the waiter had on.
"You have a dog?" she assumed.
And she assumed correctly. The waiter was the owner of 3 golden retrievers.
The glee the broke out on Twinkle's face on hearing that had no bounds. She let the waiter know about Dipstick and soon they were swiping their phone's photo gallery and gushing over how cute each other's pups were.
"I just love my Dipstick so much!" She exclaims, to Kunj, as the waiter decides to take his leave.
"If you love it so much, why don't you marry it?" he mumbles sourly. He was disappointed and upset. They are on a date, they should be gushing and fawning over each other but here too that damn Dipstick managed to make woo Twinkle.
Twinkle caught on his sour behaviour, and called him out on it, surprised that her husband would be jealous over a dog. "You want me to marry a dog?" Her tone is one of shock.
"Yes! Clearly you love it more than you love me." He lets out without thinking.
She lets out a soft giggle. Her husband and his weird jealousy streaks. "Tum Dipstick se jal rahe ho? Dipstick se?"
And that's it isn't it? He was jealous! And as pathetic it sounded, he was jealous of a dog! But really, she was spending more time with the pup than with him and he was insecure about how easily he could be replaced.
Twinkle, like the perfect wife she was sensed his train of thoughts. She got up from her seat and placed herself down on his lap, taking his face in her hands.
"You know I love you right?" she says, softly.
"More than the dog?"
She shakes his head at his childishness and pinches his cheek. "More than the sun, the moon, the stars and life itself."
"But more than the dog right?" He insists.
She smiles, teases him with no answer.
He gets desperate now. His eyes well up and his hands roughly grab her forearms. "More than the dog right?"
She drops the pretence at his look. "More than the dog."
And his smile could light up the entire world.
Twinkle however never lets him live down the fact that he was jealous of a 6 month old Great Dane.
