I am offered rubbish roles: Shilpa Shetty Kundra

"I miss doing an interesting and a meaty role," says Shilpa Shetty Kundra, adding that the ones offered to her are all "rubbish."(Yogen Shah)

Gone are the days when a female actor was only considered "desirable" before her marriage and motherhood. Today, stars such as Kareena Kapoor Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan are breaking that stereotype with their performances. Shilpa Shetty Kundra, who is a mother herself, acknowledges this fact, saying, "We live in a different age. So, it (married actresses working in films) is not a new thing."

The actor was last seen in Dostana (2008), and it's been eight years since she made a big-screen outing. But Shilpa says she does not miss the silver screen. "Where is the time to miss? It's not like I'm out of sight. People still see me on television. I'm also endorsing brands. So, I have my plate full with work," she says.

However, the fitness expert and entrepreneur suggests that she isn't being offered meaty roles. "I do miss doing interesting roles. The parts that are offered to me are all rubbish. I can't waste my time. I'm happy with what I've done in the past, and if something interesting comes my way, I will take it up for sure," she says. With Dishkiyaoon (2014), Shilpa ventured into production for the first time. Ask her if she will be produce projects in the future, and the actor says, "I can't do silly things so many times (laughs). Producing is really not my cup of tea. The only good production I did is my son."

Shilpa was lauded for getting back in shape soon after her pregnancy. But people didn't really warm up to the idea of getting back in shape shortly after conceiving. "It is part and parcel of our job," says Shilpa, adding, "You have some perks of being an actor, but there are setbacks too." The actor goes on to add that for her, losing weight wasn't about "looking good", but "feeling fit". "For me, the pressure [to lose weight] was more because I have been synonymous with glamour and known for having a good physique," says Shilpa.
