Both are said to be the mothers of the snake race. And some sources claim that Surasa was the mother of Vasuki and Takshak. If The Garudas have a rivalry with Kadru's children then I dont think the Garuda clan can be called the arch nemesis of the nagas in this show. Either way whats the difference between the two. The one difference I have come across is that the serpents born from Surasa can fly like dragons in the sky while kadru's children are probably not able to do so. So what i want know is do the Garudas have an enmity with the snakes born from Surasa as well?

Kadru and vinta were sisters and wives of same sage.
Kadru give birth to 1000 snakes while vintage was barren.
After so much prayers vinta bore two eggs .
Eggs are not hatched for a long time.
Due to anexity and curiosity vintage broke first egg and a half developed aruna came out
He curses his mother for her impatience and leave her . again after 500 years finally other egg hatches and born a full grown garuda.
Vinta and kadru indulge in a bet.loser will be slave to winner.
Kadru ask her sons help. Some snakes ref use her and she curse them they will die in fire.
Latter some of her sons helps her win the bet by trickery
And vinta become her slave.
Gaurda who could tolerate her mothers slavery ask for solution
Kadru eager to save her sons ask garuda bring amrith for his mothers freedom.
Brave gaurda brings amrith from devlog and give it to kadru and she happily frees vvinta
But before nags can have amrith they are tricked and amrith taken by Indra
It says garuda harbors hated for nags from that day and never give up chance to get even.
Story sursa .let me do the rearch

Story of sursa which I found in wiki
In the Hindu epic Ramayana, Surasa is one of the ten daughters of Daksha, who are married to the sage Kashyapa. She became the mother of the nagas (a class of serpents), while her co-wife and sister Kadru gave birth to uragas, another class of snakes.[1] Vasuki, Takshaka, Airavata and other sons of Surasa are described to live in Bhogavati.[2]

The epic Mahabharata describes her being born from the wrath of Krodhavasha, another wife of Kashyapa. Surasa has three daughters: Anala, Ruha and Virudha. The serpents descend from the daughters of Surasa. She is thus called the mother of nagas and also cranes; another snake race Pannagas descends from Kadru.[1][2]

The Matsya Purana and the Vishnu Purana describes Surasa as one of 13 wives of Kashyapa and daughters of Daksha. The Vishnu Purana says that she gave birth to a thousand multi-hooded serpents, who fly in the sky; while Kadru also gives birth to a thousand snakes. As the Matsya Purana, she is the mother of all quadrupeds, except cows; the serpents are described as Kadru's children. The Bhagavata Purana portrays her the mother of rakshasas (cannibals, demons). The Vayu Purana and Padma Purana lists do not mention her as a wife of Kashyapa; and Anayush or Danayush take her position as mother of snakes.[3][4][5]

The Devi Bhagavata Purana mentions that Rohini as Surasa's incarnation; his son Balarama was incarnation of the naga Shesha, Surasa's son.[1]

As per the Matsya Purana, when the god Shiva as Tripurantaka sets off to the three demon cities, various deities aid him. Surasa and other goddesses become his arrows and spears. When drops of the demon Andhaka blood multiplying into many demons, Surasa and other mother goddesses called matrikas aid Shiva to slay the demon, by drinking the blood.

If I found any other sources will post soon

This thread is really informative.Surasa and Kadru both mothered two different races of Nagas.Adishesha,Vasuki and Takshak are the sons of Surasa.Adisesha the eldest became the bed of Lord Vishnu whereas Vasuki coils around the neck of Mahadev.
I think that both the Nagas and the Uragas are enemies of Garuda.

I think that both the Nagas and the Uragas are enemies of Garuda.

But why? I mean only the Uragas, the offsprings of the Kadru had tormented Vinata and blackmailed Garuda into fighting the devas to get the amrit, so what caused the Surasa's children the Nagas to team up with the Uragas against the Garuda race? Is it because the Garuda's are unable to differentiate between Uraga's and Naga's hence they indiscriminately eat both beings? Moreover who are the bearers of the naagmani, the urugas or the nagas?

Naga races
MBh (1,57)

Naga race in north-west India was almost exterminated by Janamejaya, the Kuru king in Arjuna's line, who conducted the massacre of Nagas at Takshasila. This massacre was stopped by Astika, a Brahmin whose mother was a Naga. The names of the principal Nagas known widely for their achievements, and slain by Janamejaya is mentioned at (1,57). They were described to be belonging to different Naga races:-

Takshaka's Race :- Puchchandaka, Mandalaka, Pindasektri, Ravenaka; Uchochikha, Carava, Bhangas, Vilwatejas, Virohana; Sili, Salakara, Muka, Sukumara, Pravepana, Mudgara, Sisuroman, Suroman and Mahahanu. (Takshaka's son Aswasena is mentioned as belonging to the Airavata's race at (8,90). This could mean that Takshaka's race, was a branch of Airavata's race.)

Kauravya's Race :- Aryaka, Kundala Veni, Veniskandha, Kumarka, Vahuka, Sringavera, Dhurtaka, Pratara and Astaka. (Kauravya's race is mentioned as a branch of Airavata's race at (1,216).

Dhritarashtra's Race :- Sankukarna, Pitharaka, Kuthara, Sukhana, and Shechaka; Purnangada, Purnamukha, Prahasa, Sakuni, Dari, Amahatha, Kumathaka, Sushena, Vyaya, Bhairava, Mundavedanga, Pisanga, Udraparaka, Rishabha, Vegavat, Pindaraka; Raktanga, Sarvasaranga, Samriddha, Patha and Vasaka; Varahaka, Viranaka, Suchitra, Chitravegika, Parasara, Tarunaka, Maniskandha and Aruni. (Dhritarashtra was Airavata's younger brother (1,3).)
