Chapter 25

Khushi went to the canteen with her lunch box. Shyam and Anjali were already there. Khushi just went and sat down banging her lunch box on the table. Anjali and Shyam exchanged glances. What's wrong with her? They too sat down. Both opened their lunch boxes but Khushi didn't. She was lost in thinking about something. They could easily make out that she was sad.

"What happened Khushi?" asked Anjali finally. "Are you not feeling well?"

"Nothing yaar... just..." she was silent again. She opened her lunch box. Anjali and Shyam were looking at her. "Leave it yaar...!" she said as she took a piece of chapati. And then she saw her lunch box... "Mere lunch box mein Aaloo-mutur kyun nahi hai?!!!" she cried, frustrated. Why isn't there aloo-mutur in my lunch box?!

"Khushi?!" said Anjali surprised. "Ho kya gaya hai tumhein? What has happened to you? Bhindi toh tumhaari favourite sabzi hai na?!!" she said. Isn't bhindi your favourite?

Khushi was silent. Anjali poked Shyam who was staring at Khushi. "Say something...!!" she told him.

"Khushi..." began Shyam, "I know I have already said this, but you are really looking very beautiful today...!!"

Khushi looked at him in surprise. Anjali stamped hard on his foot. "Ouch!" he cried.

"Yeh bolne ke liye nahi kaha tha maine...!!" she whispered in anger. I haven't told you to say THIS! "Look at her!"

"That's what I am doing...!!" Shyam cut in.

"Offo!! I mean look, she is not in a good mood...!!"

"Khushi..." said Anjali, "Kya hua hai? Did anyone say anything to you?"

"The problem is 'someone' didn't say 'anything' to me...!" replied Khushi.

Anjali and Shyam were totally confused. Khushi was not eating anything.

"So, you don't want to eat bhindi?!" asked Shyam.

"No...!!" replied Khushi, still upset.

"Okay, we will eat all the bhindi then...!!" he said winking at Anjali.

"Oh yes!! I too love bhindi...!!" said Anjali.

Shyam took a bite... "Mmm... waah!!! Kya sabzi banayi hai Aunty ne...!! Hai na Anjali?!"

"Haan!! Itni achhi bhindi toh maine aaj tak nahi khaayi...!!" said Anjali licking her fingertips.

Now Khushi couldn't ignore them. She just snatched her lunch box from both of them... "Arey, thoda mere liye bhi chhodo yaar...!!" she said. Leave something for me too yaar!

"Arey, but you don't want to eat, right?" teased Shyam.

"Woh toh maine aise hi keh diya tha...!!" said Khushi, "mujhe toh bohot bhookh lagi hai...!!" I said it just like that. I am actually very hungry!

Khushi began eating. She really was hungry. And then she noticed that Shyam and Anjali were staring at her. Everyone looked at each other and broke into laughter. They enjoyed the lunch.

Then it was time to get back to work. The three were about to leave, when Shyam remembered something. "Khushi...!" he said, "you haven't taken your medicines...!" he reminded her.

"Oh! Thank you so much for reminding yaar!! I had completely forgotten about it...!!"

Khushi returned to the room and had her medicines. In her mind, she again thanked Shyam for reminding her about them. "He is such a sweet guy...!" she thought with a smile. Just then a peon came there to tell her that Arnav had asked her to meet him.

Khushi began walking towards his cabin. She was thinking all the way. "I know Arnav Sir hates girls..." she thought. "I am expecting too much from him, I guess... It is my mistake... I should not have expected him to notice these things... Main bhi na...!" she smiled and walked into the cabin, looking around whether Lavanya was still there.

"Khaana kha liya?!" she heard Arnav's voice. Had your lunch?

"Haan..." she said. "Aapne bhi khaaya hoga... aaloo-mutur!" she taunted. Yes... You too might have had... aloo-mutur!

He was shocked. This was unexpected. He felt embarrassed.

"Lavanya..." he said jerking his head. "She is crazy...!" he said. "Why are girls so stupid and irritating?" he said.

"You shouldn't say that... in front of me atleast...!!" said Khushi strongly. "I am a girl too...!!"

"Nah... I don't mind saying it in front of you... I know you won't mind...!"

"What?!! Why wouldn't I mind?!!" thought Khushi. She felt offended.

Arnav continued... "I know that...! Because you understand me..." he said softly, looking at the floor.

Khushi was stunned. Did Arnav really say that?

Arnav looked at Khushi. "Tum mujhe samajhti ho... Or else the way I had treated you, you would have resigned long back..." he said.

Khushi was surprised. Arnav was looking into her eyes. Khushi didn't know what to say. Please don't look at me like that...! Why are you so handsome?!

Someone knocked on the door. Khushi was relieved from Arnav's gaze.

"Come in...!" said Arnav. It was Shikha.

"Sir, I wanted to discuss about our order..." said Shikha.

Khushi was about to leave when Arnav stopped her. "Khushi, you wait here. We'll finish our discussion in two minutes...right Shikha?" Shikha nodded.

After a little discussion, Shikha was leaving. But then she stopped... "Khushi, how are you now?" she inquired.

"I am fine...!" replied Khushi with a smile.

"By the way, you are looking nice today...!" said Shikha before she left. Khushi just smiled.

"Did you take your medicines?" asked Arnav after Shikha left.

"Yes! I did...!! Thank God Shyam reminded me of it... Or else I would surely have forgotten...!!" she said.

Arnav clenched his fists tight... "Shyam! Huh!!" he thought.

Few other team members came in. Arnav had called them all along with Khushi. They discussed about the project. The discussion went on and on. And then suddenly they realized that it was already late. They all got up to leave. Khushi's phone began ringing. It was Shyam. He and Anjali had been waiting for her at the parking.

"Yes Shyam, I will come in a couple of minutes...!!" said Khushi and cut the call.

"Shyam is waiting for me at the parking..." Khushi told Arnav and others. "I have come with him today..." she added.

Now Arnav was very jealous. As Khushi was walking through the lobby, he called her... "Khushi...!"

She turned. "Yes Sir?"

"There is some work to be done...!" he said.

"Sir we have already discussed it, right?"

"No... not that one!!" He didn't know what he was saying. He just wanted her to stay back and not go with Shyam. "I wanted to talk about... yes!!! The deal with Mr. Deshpande...!!"

Just then Shyam came in looking for Khushi. "Khushi...! Chalo...!" he said. And then he noticed Arnav standing by. "Err... Good Evening Sir!!"

"Khushi will not come now... We have to discuss about an important project..."

"But Sir, she has come with me today..." said Shyam.

"Yeah, I know that. Don't worry... I will drop her home after we are done." He turned to Mansi. "Mansi, tell Shikha and Kunal to come to my cabin right away... Hope they haven't left...!"

Mansi nodded.

"Come Khushi..." said Arnav as he walked towards his cabin. Shyam looked at Khushi. She just nodded telling him that she will be fine. Shyam left and Khushi went back to Arnav's cabin.

Shikha and Kunal were there too. They discussed for a while. A file that was required was with Arnav at his home. Khushi was supposed to take that file with her. Arnav was anyways going to drop her home. So it was decided that they will first collect the file from Raizada Mansion and then he will drop Khushi home.

They reached the Raizada Mansion. Arnav and Khushi went in. Riya was very happy to see Khushi.

"Khushi Didi, chalo game khelte hain...!!" she said happily. Khushi Didi, let's play!

Before Khushi could say anything, Arnav scolded Riya... "Woh yahan kaam karne aayi hai, game khelne nahi...!!" She has come here for working, not for playing!! Poor Riya went away with a sad face. Arnav went towards his room to get the file. Khushi felt bad for Riya. Lavanya saw Arnav come.

"Arnav, kitni der laga di?" she said going behind him. "It's getting very hot. Why don't we go have ice-cream?!!" she said smiling. Arnav didn't say anything. She kept following him. Arnav went in his room. As Lavanya was about to enter the room, Arnav threw an angry glance at her. And that reminded her of how Arnav had yelled at her when she had entered his room. She stopped at the door.

Arnav was irritated. "Lavanya, can we talk later?! I am busy right now...!!" he said straight away.

Lavanya felt bad. "Okay..." she said sadly and went away. Arnav searched for the file but he couldn't find it. Khushi was waiting for him downstairs. She had a little chat with Payal and Nilima.

After a while, Arnav called her... "Khushi...! Will you please come here?"

Khushi excused herself from Nilima and Payal and climbed up the stairs. Lavanya saw her. "So this is Khushi...!" she thought. She went upto her and said, "Khushi, Arnav is calling you... Go in...!!" Khushi nodded. Lavanya knew that now Arnav will get angry at Khushi for entering his room. She was waiting for it anxiously.

Khushi went in and was shocked to see Arnav's room. Not a single thing was at its place. Clothes, files, papers, towels all spread across the room... "Oh My God!!" she thought. Arnav was still busy searching for the file.

"Need any help?" asked Khushi.

Arnav was shocked to see Khushi there. "When did you come in?!" he said.

Lavanya peeped through the window waiting for the firing. She was excited to see Khushi being scolded by Arnav.

"Why did you come in?!" he said. No... he was not angry, he was ashamed for the condition of his room.

Khushi was looking around. She was disgusted. Arnav knew it.

"I know my room is not tidy... That's why that day I did not tell you to come in, instead I told you to wait in the study..." he said innocently.

Khushi smiled at his innocence... Mr. Arnav Singh Raizada's innocence!

"It's okay..." said Khushi.

Lavanya was boiling with anger. "What is so special about Khushi?!!! I am his friend since childhood... but he didn't allow me in his room...!! And this Khushi... huh!!!" she went away stamping her feet.

Here Garima was waiting for Khushi to come. But she had not returned yet. Just then Shyam came there and informed that Khushi would be late as she had to stay back for some work.

Garima was more worried now. She called Khushi and told her to come home soon.

"Let's look for the file... I have to reach home soon...!!" said Khushi.

"Yeah..." said Arnav and both began the search.

It was not easy to find the file in all the mess in the room. They couldn't find the file. Arnav was frustrated now. And he was angry too.

"Zaroor Mrs. Raizada ne kahin rakh di hogi...!!" he said. "I have told her n' number of times, not to come in my room... But she never listens...!"

Khushi felt bad when Arnav addressed Nilima as Mrs. Raizada.

"It is not right to blame someone else for your mistakes..." said Khushi flashing the file in her hand.

"Where was it?" asked Arnav.

"Below the shirt that was lying here below these scattered newspapers...!!" said Khushi. "And this is not your mother's fault, is it?!"

Arnav just looked down. He then said, "Let's go now...!" and he began to leave the room.

Khushi was angry. She always felt that the way he behaved with his mother was not right.

"Sir...!" Khushi called from behind and he stopped. "I want to know why you treat your mother like this!!" she said strongly. She didn't think another time before speaking. She didn't know whether she had the right to ask him something like this. But she didn't hesitate today.

Arnav tried to ignore and walked ahead.

"Sir, wait!!" she said. "I wont leave unless I know it...!!!"

"Khushi, it would be better that we don't talk about it...!" he said.

"You are a person without heart...!!! You never think of others' feelings...!! Be it anyone, a 3-year old innocent girl or your mother herself...!!"

Arnav couldn't bear this any more. An enraged Arnav walked towards Khushi and pointing in her face warned her, "You better stay away from all this..." he said, his eyes red with anger... "Warna achha nahi hoga...!!"

And Arnav left the place in anger. Khushi stared at his back still trying to come out of the shock.

Dil mein itni nafrat jagaaye...

Yeh kaunsa gehra raaz hai...

Itni kaisi kadwaahat hai dil mein...

Ki beta maa se itna naraaz hai...?
