Guys I really want you people to reply to this plzzz.
For sometime I have wondering about Urmila and her pain. I have been a devotee of lord Ram and though I could to some extent always justify even his abandonment of Sita ma( knowing that he had to follow rajdharma) one thing that always troubled me was why he or Sita never thought of Urmila much. They loved each other so they know what it was to be separated. Sitaji wanted to follow lord Ram no matter what, why didn't she ever request the same for her sister. Why don't we have lord Ram taking Urmila's name to stop Lakshman from coming along. My idea is not change the course of story. It would have still been same. Lakshman loved ram too much to stay behind. But the point is why don't we ever see Ram or Sita acknowledging her sacrifice.

I know saying Ram or Sita might not be too correct coz it's really the fault of poets who time and again forget of this character. I remember reading lakshman's Wikipedia page. It said that Sita was once sorry that bcoz Ram and Sita brought Lakshman, he could never be with his wife. But he assures them that it was his and Urmila's decision.

I really want to know whether it's there original Ramayan or if there's any such reference in other versions. Guys pls do share ur views and knowledge on this. It gives me pain to think that my protagonists and my favourite gods failed to recognise her contribution and sacrifice. ( I have a strong symathy for her character 😆 )

Valmiki never makes an explicit mention about Urmila apart from a few references here and there. It is only in the folk renditions and later interpretations that we get to know more of Urmila. Rabindranath Tagore and Maithili Sharan Gupta have gone ahead and claimed her to be a forgotten heroine whose great act of sacrifice almost goes unnoticed in the entire narration of this saga.

Every character here is idealistic but for me somehow Urmila stands out, she reminds me of those women who send away their men to a war for a greater cause without any hesitation or inhibition.

Mostly in all ramayan shows , Urmila is bit neglected character , its my POV !!! [Not to hurt someone feelings ]😳
But in SKR , I am glad that they have shown very much importance to Urmila's character too.😃

Lord Ram and Sita according to my knowledge asked lakshman to stay back when he decided to come with them .
But Lakshman were such devoted to their brother and bhabhi that Ram and Sita both became speecless seeing his devotion to his brother Ram,
And Urmila was very much devoted to his husband lakshman and she herself said that to lakshman that I wil not become a barrier between u and your brother and not will anyone became a barrier in your duty as a younger brother.
Ram and Sita asked to lakshman that what about urmila , your wife? As lakshman was about to say something , Urmila herself came and told her promise to Ram-Sita and decided to lead a life of lakshman staying in Ayodhya.
Ram and Sita were dumbstruck seeing such devotion from lakshman urmila and fully respected their decision .
She lived 14 years without her husband while lakshman serve Ram-Sita as his father and mother,

Such was a devotion and sacrifice of Lakshman and Urmila.😃
Thats is the reason they r my more favourite characters than Ram-Sita .

If I am wrong somewhere in putting my view , plzz tell me !! 😳

@shilya

dont think like that dear😳

If poets and writers didnt mention , that doesnt mean lord ram and sita didnt love their siblings

They did more than their lives , thats why after lakshman's death , ram gave up the whole kingdom and went to die , as he couldnt bear separation

same strong bond was shared by sita and sisters , pious and strong

Each and every character was great in his own way

Great post dear.
I love Ram n Sita...but it is Urmila who touches my heart more...
It is true Sita suffered a lot...but atleast her sufferings got noticed n today she is worshipped as a Goddess...
However...Urmila is forgotten...There are stories of her in folklores, but in the epic she remains neglected. In a society where a woman was entitled to only one man all her life(barring a few exceptions), it is sad to think of a woman who stayed back n waited for 14 years so that her husband can fulfil duties of brotherhood.
Though not much is said about her...I feel she had made the biggest sacrifice in the epic, apart from Ram n Bharat(who were ready to give up their throne to each other).
