________
Dev paced around furiously in his room. Sonakshi has a boyfriend? Since when? And why hasn't she told me? These questions were burning a hole straight through his heart. It hurt him- he had told Sonakshi about everything that had happened to him. Like when he held her wounded after her car accident, and in his vulnerable state had quickly disclosed all of the details of his painful childhood. It struck him that Sonakshi would leave out such a big detail of her life. Does she not feel comfortable sharing things with me? It was going to be a long night for Dev.
Laying down on his bed and shutting his eyes, all Dev could see were recurrent images of Sona with someone else. Another man. Touching him, hugging him, laughing with him. His eyes shot open, unable to withstand these images. If she's not my girlfriend, why does it bother me? The clock beside his bed flashed 10:00 P.M in bright, red letters. It's not too late. Maybe I could go talk to Ria about this.
Dev walked into Ria's room, relieved to find her awake and using her phone.
"Ria, could I talk to you about something?" Dev asked innocently as he approached her.
"Of course, bhai. What could I help you with?" A more than willing Ria responded.
Fiddling his fingers, Dev sat down next to her on her bed. "How do you know you're in love with someone?" Dev choked as he let the words out.
Ria turned with an obvious look of shock, eyes bulging. "Bhai, are you serious right now? You and love?"
"Woh... I was just wondering. That's all." Dev replied quickly.
Ria stared at him dubiously, and then a smile creeped on to her face. "What made you so curious about love at 10 P.M?" A giggle escaped her.
"Can you please just tell me?"
"Ok, bhai. See, I don't have much experience with love, but I watch movies all the time. In the movies, the guy closes his eyes and imagines the girl he loves." Ria's eyes lit up with excitement as she talked.
"That's it? I mean, does it even work?"
"Yeah, I guess. Why don't you give it a try?"
Dev hesitated for a split second, but at this point anything seemed like a solution. He shut his eyes reluctantly.
"Ria, I don't see anything. Just plain black."
Ria giggled at his impatience. "Bhai, try harder."
Shutting his eyes again, Dev tried to focus more. An image began to build in his head- large, doe-like eyes, pink smiling lips, blushing pink cheeks, gold jhumkas, and curly tresses.
Sonakshi.
Dev's eyes shot open in disbelief.
"So bhai, who did you see?" Ria smirked, raising her eyebrows at him.
"Sona- Nobody. Thanks Ria. " He replied coldly and stormed out of her room.
Ria furrowed her brows at his strange behavior, shrugged it off and returned to scrolling on her phone.
He slowly walked out of her room, unable to comprehend of what had just happened. I love... Sonakshi? But how? and when? He held a hand up to his throbbing head.
Conflicted and distressed, Dev got into bed and tried to sleep. Yet every time he shut his eyes, all he could see was Sonakshi. Her yelling at him. Her spilling flour on him. Twice. Her hugging him in the hospital. Her stitching his button. Her sitting on the car bonnet with him. Her, her, her. As his weary eyelids shut, Dev felt his mind become lighter as he began to dream about his new found love, Sonakshi.
