I seemed to have missed this beautiful analysis the day you posted it, but am so glad I caught today. Perfect antidote to weekend withdrawal! 😃

You have laid everything out beautifully, especially what makes Dev and Ishwari's relationship so special, and therefore why a change in status quo poses such a threat. This is one of those times when I can't think of an English equivalent, but Dev and Ishwari have been each other's "sahara" for so long. There are so many shades to the relationship other than the explicit mother-son equation; sometimes Ishwari is the child and Dev the parent, Ishwari the god and Dev the devotee, they are friends, co-parents and co-heads of their household. They share such a tight, interdependent relationship, in which silently senses the other's need and acts accordingly, that it is hard to imagine how a third person would fit into the equation. But that's the beauty, isn't it? Sona already does.

She has given Dev a great gift by allowing him to be himself, and she has done it by being her honest-to-a-fault self, without any explicit gestures, as you so aptly observed. I think this is actually what has made her so beloved and trusted with everyone in the family, without any of them really realizing how much they love and depend on her (especially one Mr. Dev Dixit! 😉). This is true even of Ishwari, and thanks to Supriyaji's amazing skill, you can see the unrestrained love for Sona in her eyes now; I loved the bandage scene where Ishwari's sense of humor shone through and for a second you could mistake her for one of Sona's own family members! And that scene when she catches herself confiding her deepest feelings about Dev in Sona... that was just breathtaking in the way it mirrored how Sona has made her way into Dev's heart... just by being her patient, mature and trustworthy self.

Scenes like these show how little Ishwari has to worry about if Dev chooses a partner like Sona, and give us glimpses into how seamlessly she would fit into their family. It makes me all the more eager to see where the resistance to the relationship will come from!

Hey Sam! 🤗 Thank you so much! I'm glad you liked this :) I had meant to reply to your post as well on the Dixits but never got around to it. Loved it so much! 👏

Word to everything you said about Dev and Ishwari. Their relationship transcends the typical mother-son equation. Sona has just seamlessly found her way into their bond hasn't she? :) Not as an intruder but as a person who can only add something more to what they already share. :)

I'm glad I'm not the only one who is completely convinced that Dev is already in love with his beloved 'Miss Bose.' 😆 And why shouldn't he be? She is everything that he needs and wants in his life even if he doesn't know it yet.

I absolutely loved the bandage scene. It was so sweet! Ishwari really has grown to love Sona so much. This family is essentially incomplete without her now. I loved how easily Ishwari could confide into Sona. When Ishwari says how its impossible not to love Dev and Sona agrees, I was struck by the amount of love both of these women have for this man. Dev is a very very lucky man that way. The way Sona has grown to understand and even relate to the love Ishwari has for Dev, as unreasonable or flawed it is at times, is so beautiful. I remember there were some light-hearted references early on in the show too over Sona defending her 'Mother-in-law' for the way she loves her son. 😆 It is also essential for her to be able to understand Ishwari if her and Dev are to have a real shot at being together. Ishwari can never find a better life partner for Dev than Sona. The way she fits amongst them, guiding, understanding and helping them all bit by bit whether it be Ishwari, Dev or even Nikki is amazing. And she does all this by just being herself. I am also curious to see as to how Ishwari will eventually turn against Sona.

You know the interesting thing is, Dev marrying Natasha might still be okay with Ishwari because its a practical choice, something that he needs to do so its something she can still come to terms with. Him choosing to be with Sona however is a completely different matter because it would be something that he does entirely for love. And who knows better than Ishwari, how deeply her son loves someone once he gives his heart to that person? His whole life has revolved around his Mother and for that to change... It's going to be far too difficult for her to see that. Eventually however Ishwari should be able to understand that Sona loving Dev doesn't damage her equation with either Dev or Sona. It only makes it stronger (Throwback to Sona making Dev understand why he should let his Mother fast for him) I hope she is able to feel happy that someone other than herself loves Dev so immensely, selflessly and is so good for him.

Thanks for the feedback. You know how much I love reading what you write. 😃

She has, and it has been wonderful to watch because of the very non-intrusiveness of her methods. She just lent a patient ear and a few well-meaning words whenever she felt it was needed and the Dixits must be so unaccustomed even to that that they opened up willingly under her influence. I think what's even more wonderful is that she takes their words to heart as well, acknowledging and accepting when she has done something wrong or gone too far, like with Dev's phone, or with Mami.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who is completely convinced that Dev is already in love with his beloved 'Miss Bose.' 😆 And why shouldn't he be? She is everything that he needs and wants in his life even if he doesn't know it yet.
Me too! That and appreciation for Elena's character seem to be very unpopular opinions indeed. I think I mentioned it in my other post as well, but I believe Dev has been pretty far gone for a while now, ever since he told Sona he trusted her with his mother. Falling in love isn't always represented by a guy getting lost in a girl's physical beauty, which seems to be the sign everyone is looking for. Dev can't stand the idea of Sona being angry with him, he completely freaked out and moved heaven and earth when her life was in danger, and he can't stand to be away from her when she's not well, whether it was after the accident when he visited every day, or when she went home early at Ishwar's behest. He exposes parts of him to her that nobody else has seen, his dry sense of humor and open laughter, and takes all her advice super-seriously. If this isn't love, I don't know what is!

You totally have a point about why the prospect of Sona is more of a threat to Ishwari than Natasha. I think Ishwari also feels genuinely out of her depth with the Natasha thing because it is embroiled in Dev's business life, something that he has always taken the call on and for which she has stepped aside. Maybe she doesn't feel it's her place to interfere in this decision. It's also interesting to see where Ishwari's expertise when it comes to all things Dev kind of tapers off... for all of her wisdom, she clearly belongs to a different time, when marriage was dealt with very differently and maybe she genuinely doesn't know how to advise Dev or express what she wants for him. As you said, that is a lacuna that Sona fills so beautifully, with the same patient temperament of Ishwari but with all the added benefits of a woman who has been raised to know her own mind.

Word! And oh yes, I really like how open minded Sona is towards her own faults. She makes sure to stand up for herself when she feels she isn't in the wrong but once she realizes her mistake she also apologizes. I particularly liked their conversation before the accident where she accepts and respects his POV over his family and can see where he comes from. Her initial thoughts regarding the matter made sense because of how her own family is. But then how she tries to understand the differences between their families and comes to terms with it so that he is grateful to her made for a wonderful scene overall. I also remember loving how Dev admitted how he tries to keep everyone happy but can never quite manage it.. The way she tried to make him feel better about it by reassuring that he does a wonderful job was so heartwarming. The way she listened, understood and supported him there makes you how she fits so naturally next to him :)

Me too! That and appreciation for Elena's character seem to be very unpopular opinions indeed. Oh yes, Elena. She isn't very popular here. 😆 I actually think Elena deserves serious credit for making Sona realize her feelings for Dev. I feel that one reason Dev still doesn't have an inkling about what he feels is because there's nobody to actually prod him in that direction. Nobody points it out to him that he shows preference for Sona (Well unless you count Radha Rani and he just gets irritated by that and I love it 😆), nobody really makes him think and reflect over her place in his life. Dev needs an Elena very badly if you ask me 😆 These two can be so oblivious to things.. They feel stuff but then stow it deep within themselves, getting busy in the hustle bustle of their everyday lives... Especially Dev. Most people find Elena too persistent but I don't see her doing any harm at all to their story. She is a great support system for Sona right now considering how Sona is constantly swinging between heartbreak and that tiny sliver of hope that she might get her happy ending. I don't think Sona would hold up so well if she didn't have someone to constantly rant to.

He exposes parts of him to her that nobody else has seen, his dry sense of humor and open laughter, and takes all her advice super-seriously. If this isn't love, I don't know what is! Word word word! Its like you took the words out of my mouth! I wanted to say this on your other post but I was glad that you too appreciated the significance of that scene where Dev tells Sona that he trusts her with his Mother. I used it in a VM recently. I feel its a very underrated scene in general but it was actually such a huge thing. Dev, who is normally so overprotective of his Mother, who is almost always convinced that she can only listen to him, that only he can handle her and understand her entrusted Sona with that job. His Mother is practically his whole world and to have such faith in Sona... It meant something. Dev's love isn't about superficial things like physical beauty... Its something that's gone and rooted itself deeply within him. He listens to her, shares things with her, takes care of her and tries to be there for her. He cares about what she thinks of him as well.. I was very amused by how he made that sandwich for her, even showed off a bit there in the kitchen 😆 and later prods at her to know if she still thinks he is Mr. Abodhuro . 😆 He is at such ease with her all the time, even learning little things about her like she used to bite her brother when she was a child brings a smile on his face and ultimately like you said, she has experienced these sides of him that no one else quite has... Her presence in his life is unique and irreplaceable that way.
(Throwback to Sona making Dev understand why he should let his Mother fast for him - I LOVED THAT SCENE ❤️ Me too. What an absolute gem of a scene!)

You totally have a point about why the prospect of Sona is more of a threat to Ishwari than Natasha. I think Ishwari also feels genuinely out of her depth with the Natasha thing because it is embroiled in Dev's business life, something that he has always taken the call on and for which she has stepped aside. As you said, that is a lacuna that Sona fills so beautifully, with the same patient temperament of Ishwari but with all the added benefits of a woman who has been raised to know her own mind. Oh yes that's a very good point. Because how its so completely intertwined with his business it makes sense as to why she is holding back so much. And oh yes, Sona can definitely help Dev in a way Ishwari cannot in this matter. Perfectly said! :)
Thanks for the feedback. You know how much I love reading what you write. 😃

I would love it if you would see my VM. I'd really like to know your thoughts on it. 😳 I hope its not a bother. *smiles sheepishly* https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SiADpXc01Hs

Maham!!! That VM is beautiful and I don't know how I missed it before! I guess this forum is growing at such a rapid rate that I have to be more careful about looking through more pages from now on. It perfectly captures the unlikely combination of understated and epic that defines this love story... nothing is apparent at the surface but scratch it and you find the feelings running very deep. The concept was so strong and the combination of visuals, text and music, showing all the different shades that their relationship has exposed, really gives you a feel for the scope of their story, even in its nascent stages. I can't wait to see what you'll come up with as the show goes on!
I also loved your responses. It is very natural to see Sona by Dev's side because she seems to pick up instinctively on when he needs to be called out on his BS and when he needs to be given encouragement and a self-esteem boost. With this instinct, she seamlessly guides him into new experiences that he thought were beyond his capacity.

Word on Elena! Every serious introvert, and Dev and Sona both are, needs someone like her to lighten their load and make them take themselves a little less seriously. That way, they have someone to fall back on when they take the frightening plunge of accepting their feelings. And Elena has really stood by Sona through all this, often lightening her mood, but also providing a shoulder to cry on when she needs one.

I loved that trust arc because not only did Dev say he trusted Sona, but he was even confident enough to be humourous about the situation, giving her that smirk and shrug of the shoulder from upstairs as she tried to reason with Ishwari; he enjoyed watching her squirm. 😆 The fact that he allowed Ishwari, his god, to be the butt of an inside joke with Sona was huge.

Anyway, I shall put this thread to rest and go continue on your newer one! 😃

Thank you so much Sam! 🤗Really happy that you think I manage to capture their story well. 😃 Hahaha I hope the show continues to inspire me like this.

Word to what you said about Sona's reactions to Dev. I'm glad we think alike on Elena's role in the show too. And oh yes... What you said about Dev allowing Ishwari to be the butt of an inside joke with Sona.. So true! Hahaha yes I think we can let this thread rest now. Thank you once again for liking the VM! 😃 Let me go reply to you on the other thread now 😆
