One Actor/Character Does Not Make An Entire Show!

Hey everyone. My name is Fia and I'm new to the forum. I have watched Tashan-E-Ishq off and on during the time it has been airing. More off than on actually. So bear with me if I am unaware of some facts since I have never before visited this forum or regularly watched the show, but I think I know most of the important stuff. And before people jump to conclusions regarding my topic and just assume I'm a hater or basher, better read the entire post and avoid the unnecessary drama.

I browsed through the forum a few moments ago and found out Sidhant Gupta aka Kunj is quitting the show. Now I don't know if this piece of news is confirmed, but either way, it doesn't really matter, because Tashan-E-Ishq isn't just about Kunj, and as they say, the show must go on. I know people tend to get attached to certain characters/actors and it gets hard for them to let go. God knows I have had my moments, even though they were few and far between. I'm not really the kind of person who gets excessively emotionally invested in fiction, be it movies, shows or books. I develop an extreme liking towards them, definitely, but rarely do I get all mopey and depressed over them.

Tashan-E-Ishq for me, since it's inception was about the tashan between the Taneja and Luthra women and their children. After the Sarnas were thrown into the mix out of the blue, the original plot kind of became a bit secondary. When after a few episodes I discovered a complete shift in the story line, I stopped watching the show altogether. Now I'm all for a good twist or change in the concept of a show, but being misled? That never goes down well with me. It really bothers me when the product being sold turns out to be entirely different than the one you were promised. I have heard that various articles/videos over the internet claimed Kunj to have been the male lead all along, but it's not the internet that majority of the audience watches the show on. The initial promos of the show have been so misleading that I as an audience felt utterly cheated when out of nowhere, this new guy comes, and the guy who everyone assumed to be the hero turned into an obsessive psychopath overnight. I know of Zain from a previous show so naturally, my reason of starting watching the show was his face since I was pretty much unaware of who the rest of the cast was. Even though he is at best an average actor, he just works as Yuvraj for me. I can't imagine anyone else in that role.

I'll be honest, out of the three leads, it's safe to say that Sidhant is the better actor. Jasmine's acting makes me cringe most of the time (no offense to her fans) . And Zain, even though he's gradually improving, still has a long way to go in that department. Having said all that, Kunj as a character never worked for me. I know he has a huge and loyal fan following, and he should, he is a good actor, but I tend to favor characters with a little more layers, a little more intensity, and by intensity I absolutely do not mean romance. Kunj unfortunately lacked in that department for me. I tried to like him, I really did, but in the end I figured I was okay with him, pretty much neutral, but my interest in the show never really developed again after Yuvi turned into a maniac. The show went from light-hearted to straight up crazy town in the blink of an eye.

My interest in the show has recently returned when my sister, who is an avid TwiNj shipper, told me about Yuvi's sudden priest-like nobility. I have been waiting for this day for a long time, and even though half my brain is screaming at me that this is just another stunt he's pulling to create more misery in Kunj and Twinkle's lives, that the writers will never have mercy on me and stop whacking Yuvi's character like a pinata, I'll take what I'm getting with a smile on my face for as long as it lasts. I know many people will never like or sympathize with Yuvi after all the heinous crimes he's committed (yes he's been a monster), assuming he's actually turned good, I learned a long time ago to never ever look for any king of logic, practicality or morals when it comes to Indian shows. Hell I watch a show where a girl tried to murder her sister in cold blood over a guy three times, falsely accused said sister's husband of molesting her, kidnapped her mother and what not, and now she's being portrayed and glorified as the best sister and wife a person could hope for. So yeah, morals? That's a joke when it comes to these daily soaps. As long as the writers come up with some brilliant episodes for the future, I am ready to forget the psycho-Yuvi phase and watch this show with a fresh start. In all honesty though, if someone like Yuvi ever actually existed in my life, I'd be the first to run screaming for the hills. But as I said, this is fiction, and more importantly, this is Indian fiction, so anything goes. We live in an age where horrifying, predatory species like Vampires are being romanticized so I think it's better to lay low on judgements on all things fiction.

Coming back to the topic I chose, I know Sidhant has a very loyal fan base, and I completely sympathize with what they are going through, feeling hurt that their favorite is probably leaving the show, but as I said, one character/actor does not make an entire show. There are others working equally hard and earning their bread and butter through it, so asking for the show to end just because Sidhant won't be there anymore is kind of juvenile. Those who want to quit watching because their favorite is leaving should do so, no judgements there. Everyone has reasons for liking or watching a show or movie or reading a book, and it's understandable that when that reason isn't there anymore, there is no point in continuing. So I will never blame anyone for wanting to quit the show as Kunj might not be part of the story anymore, nor would I fight with them. But asking for a show to end because one actor won't be there, that I'm not okay with. I came across a few such comments and it really baffled me as to why people take fiction so seriously. Anyway, if Kunj really is leaving, I'm all for a Yuvi-Twinkle romance in the future. God knows I have been waiting for it since like the first episode. Before people start preaching morality to me, let me remind you as I mentioned earlier that this is an Indian show and it's pointless to judge such things happening here because the writers will never write a story or characters by linking it to real life first. I still maintain that the writers should have portrayed him as bad instead of downright evil. And my interest is basically more towards watching Zain and Jasmine together onscreen, those two have amazing chemistry. Anyway if Sidhant decides to stay, that's well and good for me too because I might not be an avid TwiNj or Kunj fan, but even I can't deny the fact that they both are good for each other.

The show has managed to grip my interest after a very long time (even though Yuvi's overnight transformation from evil to good is not only unrealistic but also suspicious), so I am going to continue watching it, with or without certain characters. If it turns out Yuvi is like a dog's tail that can't be straightened, then adios to the show from me, no hard feelings, but that way it'll just keep going in circles without any rhyme or reason. And I'll be back to hating Yuvraj Luthra. Oh well, whatever the writers deem fit for the story. We can just hope for the best.

P.S: I think it will be a bad idea all around if after Sidhant leaves, the makers replace him as Kunj with another actor. It would be better if they end the character instead of making someone else step in his shoes. Just like I can't imagine Yuvi without Zain, I don't think I or anybody else can imagine anyone else as Kunj. That will surely be a suicide mission. I have hardly ever liked any replacements. Always a bad idea.

This post made me laugh for all the right reasons 😆 Having watched several shows myself, I'm pretty used to the lack of common sense and morality in these shows but being an ardent TEI follower, I don't think I can accept Twinkle and Yuvi together anymore. I agree, Jasmin and Zain have great chemistry and their initial scenes were adorable so honestly, if the makers turn a new leaf with the show like coming back with a 'season 2' for instance, I'd quite happily stick around and watch Zain and Jas lead the show. I just can't accept them with the current storyline since I've been an ardent twinj shipper from the start. Each to their own is what I'm going by right now.

Welcome to the forum btw!

When your describing that evil sister scenario, are you talking about swaragini by any chance?

Thank you 😳

THAT actually sounds like a great idea. As I said, I'm more inclined towards watching Zain and Jasmine together then I am to watch Yuvi and Twinkle. And it is kind of hard to ignore the kind of things Yuvi has done. But what can I say? I'm greedy when it comes to love triangles, no matter how twisted 😆 . But a Season 2 scenario would definitely be ideal. Because even though I say I'm okay with a Yuvi-Twinkle romance (which I sort of am) , I will have to resort to hurling abuses at him if he makes one more cheap move. I have had it with psycho Yuvi.
