An event that has roughly 300 viewers in India, including friends of relatives of the participants, has suddenly become the most talked about event of recent times. With Twitter trends, such as Iss Eid sirf Rio Olympics,' Olympics ki shaan, Salman Khan,' and Waiting for the trailer of Rio Olympics,' the event has seen an all time high as far as its popularity in India is concerned. Experts are attributing this sudden rush of interest in this otherwise low-key event to Salman Khan's appointment as Goodwill ambassador.
The unconventional actor, who has forced Oxford dictionary to rewrite the definition of actor as a person who has over 16 million followers on Twitter' (and in the process confused Mr. Modi about the job he was carrying out as prime minister of India), will be seen in Rio de Janerio during the opening ceremony. And if reports are to be believed, thousands of Salman Khan fans have booked tickets to Rio to have a glimpse of their favorite star.
This unprecedented attention has made all the Indian athletes a bit nervous as their performances hitherto have gone unnoticed, barring occasional mentions in Punjab Kesari, something they never complained about. Their only concern has always been the popularity of cricket.
We met one of the fans as he was posting a question on Quora, "What are the top 5 performances of Salman Khan in all Rio Olympics?" and he said, "Bhai has always been an ambassador material. First he was the brand ambassador of Dixcy Scott banian and now he is the goodwill ambassador of Olympics. Days are not far when he will become the permanent ambassador of Road Rash video game."
Meanwhile, Indian Olympic association is planning to release a motion picture titled Olympics' ahead of the event to further popularize the game in India.
