Mohit Raina: Ashoka' might cast Siddharth Nigam as Ashoka's son

TNN | May 1, 2016, 12.34 PM IST
Mohit Raina, who has taken over the role of Emperor Ashoka in the popular show 'Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat' from Siddharth Nigam says he will try to convince the audiences with his performance but if required, the show's makers may bring Siddharth back as Ashoka's son, owing to his popularity.

The actor told the Indian Express that he always wanted to play Ashoka and had his eyes on the role since the beginning. He said, "I had my eyes on 'Ashoka' since its first episode. I always waited for the makers to take a leap so that I can join it."

However, Mohit concedes that it would be difficult to live up to the popularity and image set by Siddharth, who played the young Ashoka and was loved by fans and critics alike. Yes, obviously the pressure is there. He has had a 400-episode journey in the show through which he has created a benchmark. So, people will obviously want to see him more. "But I'll try my level best to convince them. If they (audiences) will accept me then it's well and good otherwise may be we will recast Siddharth as Ashoka's son," he said.

Mohit, who has earlier starred in 'Devon ke Dev, Mahadev' and 'Bandini' has learnt horse riding and sword fighting for his role as Ashoka. He was cast in the title role because the show is taking a 10-year leap.

seems like they have a big plan to stretch the story a long way 😆, anyway i would be really happy if they will do that.😃 The post leap story didn't even started yet and they are fearing of loosing popularity! they should have think about that before taking this rushed leap & should have given more time to young Ashok.😔
And Mohit Sid didn't continue till 400 episodes but i wish he had, if not 400 then at least for 350 episodes.😭

TFS Ariel!
Mohit is truly a humble human being! Love his statement in this article!👏...well not sure how to react though regarding Sid's comeback as Ashoka's son later on...I wish so badly to see him back onscreen but...only in very compellingly challenging roles! 😉

or may be he will be Kaurwaki's son Tivala that's why they are glorifying Kaurwaki's character. Tivala was close to Ashok, served as the viceroy of Takshila, was a possible successor to his father but sadly he died before Ashok hence could not succeed him as emperor.😔

Don't want sid in this show back as ashok's son..
coz sid already played Ashok the samrat
then why should he play minor role of ashok's son..
its better that sid concentrate on movies and new shows..
where he is the lead..

You are right actually, initially I was happy with this news when I read the article at first place but after thinking about the idea deeply it's not really making me happy now, Ashok is larger than any of his son & Sid played that big role so wonderfully that now it is impossible for me to accept anyone else in that role, also none of Ashok's son became king otherwise it would have been really delightful to see Ashok's son succeeding him but that would not happen so Sid's comeback role into the show will go in waste, and lastly the most important point that you mentioned - why exactly he should play a minor role after playing such a big n also the title role in the same show?

This channel & PH is really very clever & pathetic 1st they rushed for the leap now they will keep Sid busy with JDJ meanwhile they will experiment with the leap if it fails then they will bring Sid back to play a minor role! I wish rather then planning & executing their pathetic plans they would have given Sid some more time & focused on young Ashok's story for few months more. I am really gonna miss him very very badly as Ashok.

Exactly, even though I love Sidharth I don't want him back in any small character. I want him to concentrate on future projects and not waste his time in a minor role

You know what...this may actually work good for the show.
Sony TV did this in Suryaputra Karn when they brought back the guy who played teenage Karn as adult Karn's son...because of his popularity. They had a great chemistry together.

I would surely love it...if they bring back Siddharth...and I'm sure that if they do bring him back...it won't be for a short time.
