Shah Rukh Khans Fan, directed by Maneesh Sharma and produced by Yash Raj Films, released on April 15 but it didn't meet the expectations of the audience. While the critics warmed up to the film, SRK's the movie-goers were disappointed. Many felt that the first half of the film was FABULOUS, but the second half was stretched. The unrealistic action sequences only earned more flak from viewers. But, did you know that this was never the plan?
In fact, the story of FAN was a little different and a source close to the movie revealed that it was producer Aditya Chopra who made these changes. Originally the script was more tight and was supposed to be in sync with the content of the first half, but the YRF head honcho insisted that on a different take. A source told BollywoodLife, "Aditya Chopra wanted the second half to be different from the first half. He wanted a completely different story to be shown and so the chase sequences and prolonged action scenes were later added."
Another source revealed to us that Shahrukh wasn't too sure of these suggestions and even asked Adi to shorten the length of movie, especially the second half, but he didn't listen. The source said, "Shahrukh wanted the film's length to be cut short as it was too long but Aditya Chopra wouldn't hear any of it. He didn't budge from his stand and Fan went as per Adi's instructions."
What followed was disappointing for fans, trade and the superstar. For the first time in a long span, a Shah Rukh Khan film failed to cross even the Rs 100 crore mark even after the second weekend.
When we contacted the production house, Yash Raj Films to confirm this, their spokesperson said, "This is a baseless story and there's no truth to it."
