An earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter Scale with its epicenter in Myanmar shook a major part of eastern India with the tremor spilling over right up to some parts of north India.
Following the earthquake, tremors were felt in Kolkata, Guwahati and Patna, as also in Delhi.
Early visuals showed people vacating their buildings in fear at Kolkata after they felt the tremors.
According to National Centre of Seismology (NCS), the earthquake occurred at 7:25 PM at the depth of 134 km.
There were no immediate reports of damage to property and life.
