CHAPTER: 5
"Uh! Hi Nidhi..."
Nidhi looked up from locking her main door, when her neighbour next door greeted her... She smiled cordially, and nodded her hi...
"Kahin jaa rahi ho?" the neighbour had asked...
Nidhi shrugged her shoulder- "Apparently!"
"Uh... Yeah... Of course! I just dropped in to say hi and a few conversations... You live here alone?" the neighbour was curious...
"Yeah..." Nidhi had smiled awkwardly...
"Your kids don't live here with you?"
"Uh! Actually... I don't have kids." This was getting repeatedly awkward with Nidhi...
"Haanh!" the neighbour's curiosity was fed with a new fuel... "Of course! I can see that... How would they be...? I have often seen your husband leaving at night... Separated? Or Divorced? Or re-kindling haan?" the neighbour was trying to really get the fodder of gossip, never realising that she was crossing the line.
Nidhi was livid by the kind of language and more the intention by which the neighbour talked... She couldn't resist retaliating... "I understand, the country we live in is quite social, doesn't mean we poke into another's life more than required. For the sake of your curiosity, I am not married, but tying the knot very soon..."
"But at this age?" the neighbour's words got stuck into her own throat with Nidhi's glare, before they could ever come out of her mouth.
Nidhi walked into Ashutosh's waiting car, where he apparently sat bemused hearing the defensive conversation going on a few minutes back...
"There's nothing to grin so much about Ashutosh!" Nidhi had loudly closed the door of the car, once she was seated... Heated was the state of her mind at the moment.
"Arrey baba, Nidhi... I am happy for you. You have finally given back to the society what they deserve for being so obnoxious. You did well." Ashutosh gave her thumbs up sign, and started the engine of the car. They had to register themselves for their marriage into court, before the wedding takes place, thus the two of them were off to the court.
-------------------------------------------------------------
"Arre Nidhi- Ashu tum dono aa gaye?" baba had pulled on his glasses once he saw the couple coming back from the court. "Beta... Maine shaadi ki date nikalwa li hai... After two weeks it would be..." baba had informed the two...
"Par baba, itni jaldi sab ho paayega?" Ashu had asked... Then is when Nidhi spoke-
"Baba, Ashutosh; can that be possible if we keep the wedding to the bare minimum ceremonies? I don't think I can take all the pomp and show now... I mean..." Nidhi fidgeted... She wasn't that 24 year old girl anymore...
Baba came forward, and put a hand on her head- "Nidhi, meri bachhi, tu bilkul chinta na kar... Nothing will be done that would make you uncomfortable... We will have the marriage ceremony in the temple, and a small reception for chosen close ones... I promise, nothing would be done over the top."
Nidhi smiled a genuine smile, and nodded her head, when baba continued- "Bas beta, ab ek hafte mein you pack all your belongings, and shift here in this home, we'd have all the ceremonies from here only. Vacate your flat now."
Nidhi nodded, and looked at Ashutosh, whose face shone brighter than the sun, to have her in his home; their home... Finally! She couldn't herself resist the happy grin that contagiously came to her face looking at him... He was happy, how wouldn't she be happy... No matter what the world did to them, it's no time to think about the negativity. It's time to live... Live for self and for the ones who really are happy with her happiness.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
"Bhabhi aap?" Nidhi was walking around the few guests gathered into the banquet hall where her reception was going on after her traditional wedding ceremony held in the temple in the morning... Clad in a red and beige coloured chiffon-silk saree, Nidhi looked breathtaking beautiful, in a newly married ensemble...
Among all the guests, she had least expected her brother and sister-in-law appearing to the reception, though she did not wanted to invite them, but baba insisted on informing.
Her Bhabhi had smiled a cordial smile in front of the public, when she pulled her to the corner in a hurry... Once secluded, she snarled- "Ye sab kya drama hai Nidhi? Tum yahan Lucknow aakar ye sab gulcharre udaa rahi thi? Shaadi hi karni thi toh kar leti na, itne saal itna hungama kyu kiya tha!"
Nidhi had immediately pulled her hand off from her sister in law's grip, anger in her eyes- "I am not answerable to you and your husband anymore Bhabhi... You lost the rights, the day you had asked me to leave your house months back. I was least interested in informing you about my marriage, let alone inviting you. It was baba who had insisted in calling you all here. So kindly keep your grace intact, have dinner, and leave!"
Nidhi was about to turn back, when from nowhere her brother joined in too... He wasn't snarling like his wife, but had anguish in his eyes- "Nidhi, what have you brought to the reputation of our family by marrying... I mean, marrying at this age... You... You look desperate to the society..."
Nidhi's mind had immediately wandered off to the time when she had started moving out her things from her flat, shifting to Ashutosh's mansion, when she had seen people in her apartment complex, clinging to their doors, or standing in groups, and murmuring among themselves, looking her with filthy eyes for marrying at this time ... Though nobody dared to come and question here after her lashing to her neighbour, but that lady did a pretty good job in gossiping around the news.. Nidhi had started taking things in stride, and arrogantly started ignoring such remarks, and kept on moving herself out to where her loved ones were to shelter and protect her...
Nidhi was rudely brought from her thoughts by the shakes that she got on her shoulder, realising that her Bhabhi was doing so. A moment later she realised what she was saying that had to be accompanied by such wild shaking, when her sister in law repeated in agitation- "Kyu kiya tuney aisa? Haan? Aur kya lar legi shaadi karke? Tu... Tujhe toh iss umar mein shayad ab Bachhe bhi nahi honge...!"
Nidhi's eyes had turned from anger to disgust the moment she heard her sister in law speaking such words, and seeing her brother turn his head the other way loathing his sister. In a fraction of seconds Nidhi realised her sister in law's hands slipping away, and a pair of firm, yet gentle hands replacing on her shoulders... It was Ashutosh's touch, Nidhi recognised. She raised her head up to look at him, who had a possessive and protective look on his face. She didn't even need to shelter herself against him; his looks told he would do that anyhow... His words proved that to be true the next instant...
"Aap jaise logon ke samajh ke baahar hai ye samajhna ki humne shaadi kyu ki... Kyuki, aap jaise log ye samajh hi nahi sakte ki ye saari bakwaas ki duniya-daari, and faaltu ke notions se badhke bhi iss duniya mein log rehte hain, jo pyaar, aur sirf pyaar, understanding and care ke basis par bhi saath rehte hain... Never mind, that's none of your business; you have done your bit, giving her a home to live in while I was proving my worth to your society. You have thrown her out, and I have married her, so you don't have to think about her anymore... Aur rahi baat bachhon ki, toh who gives the guarantee out there that every couple must have kids of their own when they are marrying... That's all the Almighty's wish... Uski marzi wo humein bachha kabhi dega ya nahi... How does that matter?"
Nidhi thought, had she been in this scenario 15 years back, she would have blushed to her roots at the very thought of having kids, but at this point, it was the farthest thought in her mind...
Right on cue baba joined in, and smiled at Nidhi's Bhaiyya-bhabhi - "Aap log aaye, bohot achha laga... Par ab aapko chinta karne ki zaroorat nahi hai Nidhi ki... Uska BAAP abhi zinda hai..." Nidhi's eyes had welled up instantly hearing the love of the father she had so sought in her own father... She had immediately gone into those fatherly arms, hiding her face in his chest, as he continued saying- "Hum dekh lenge hum apni beti ko kaise khush rakhenge... Aap logon ko chinta karne ki bilkul zaroorat nahi hai..." Baba has pulled Nidhi out of his arms, joined his palms in a Namaste, and the trio Baba, Ashutosh and Nidhi walked out of the dazed gaping couple in the corner, very clearly indicating- "YOU MAY LEAVE NOW!"
~~THANKS FOR READING~~

Uff ye society and it's social normsIt's nice to see Nidhi replying firmly to the neighbor and then decide fully and moved to Ashutosh's home.
-- You know for once I really wanted to write a story that truly personifies the title of Kuch Toh Log Kahenge... And I think this one is doing the exact job I wanted from the story...
Though in the serial not much was used in this context, whatever little was done was faced by Ashutosh...
Here Nidhi is more at the receiving end... she slowly is learning the trick to handle all this...The marriage has taken place and her bhaiya bhabhi are not happy with her happiness. Disgustingenough 😡that they never thought of her desires but now when she has got married, they are here to tell her that she has done a wrong.
-- When strangers speak disgusting stuff, it's relatively easy to handle them... When your family does the same, it gets a bit difficult... But once bitten twice shy, Nidhi has learnt to give them back as they gave her... so she turned them straight...Loved Ashu protecting her with his words and possessiveness. Loved Baba coming forward to tell the world that her father is alive and no one has to worry about her anymore.
-- They had to come anyways... Not only for others, even for Nidhi's knowledge, they told clear and bold, that they would be there for her here on... she will never have to worry to stumble... they won't let her fall...Yahi hota hai. You do anything against the so called rules. everyone comes forward to tell you the ethics. But where were their hearts when she was ageing and no one cared for her and her wishes ??
Exactly!Liked the chapter, why did you say it's not good ?? Life goes like this and you have pick the right twist to the story, becos society won't leave you whether U do this or that.
-- I don't know how the content would be taken, as in if I went over board with things the society said or what Nidhi's family said...
Plus, if you have noticed, I have slightly changed the writing style with writing switching between present and in flash backs instead of one flow description story...
Another change was that I didn't describe the wedding ceremony, except for the fact that they are married.. it was a first to me...
These were the reasons I was nervous about this one...Will wait for more, after Nidhi's bro and bhabhi leave.😳Loves Aazu❤️Great emotions put in👏👏-- Will write sooner dear... Dunno if I would add Nidhi's family leaving or not... Most probably the story would move faster here on... And I think it would take a couple more updates to wrap this one off...
Thank you for all the love Babita... Love you too... ❤️
