The tell-tale sign? Virtually all tickets at multiplexes in Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat and Rajkot mopped up for the weekend by Friday evening and DVD shops swamped by fans for pirated versions.
In Ahmedabad, chaos reigned at some multiplexes on Friday when fans waiting to watch the first show on the first day of Sawariya were told the print had not arrived on time. They have now resolved to try again on Saturday. "The print did not reach Gujarat in time to start the first show at 9:30 am. People who booked in advance had to be given a refund. We could not even accommodate them in later shows, as we have a housefull for the next three days for all the shows," said a multiplex owner in Ahmedabad.
"Diwali couldn't have come on a better day than Friday. This year it has brought so may stars for us. Me and my friends booked tickets five days in advance for there is no better way to celebrate Diwali but watching a great movie," said Heeral Bhatt, 25, a resident of Vejalpur area of Ahmedabad.
If Bhatt was lucky enough to grab a ticket, Rahul Sitapara of Rajkot was a disappointed man. He found all the multiplexes booked and could not afford to buy in the black market.
In Vadodara too, all the three multiplexes are running to packed houses and movie buffs have already booked their tickets well in advance. All shows are booked till Sunday and both films are getting stupendous response from the audience.
