CHAPTER FIFTEEN

After a couple of hours they were home and Raman was receiving non-stop calls since he switched his phone back on. He truly wanted to stay home that evening but he couldn't, given work was calling. Once he got home he changed freshening up and walked downstairs where Aditya and Ruhi were with Neelu and Ishita

'You're going back to work...'' Said Ruhi

'I am afraid so honey... ' Said Raman

'I hate your job...'' Said Ruhi

'I hate it too sometimes...'' Said Raman smiling as Aditya just kept on staring at the tv

'Adi, are you going to be okay...'' Said Raman

'Of course why...'' Said Aditya looking at Raman

'Well...'' Said Raman and as Aditya turned to look at him was at a loss of words

'What...'' Aditya said smiling

'Nothing... I just... I love you very much...'' Said Raman

'I know dad... You forget to show it most of the time but I know...'' Said Aditya and Raman just stood back looking at him

'Dad, I am not 9... I am 10 years old now, so I understand these things...You gotta work, I get it'' He added

'Oh I see...'' Said Raman smiling

'Although I would say...'' Said Aditya as he walked to where his father was standing and he put his arms around him

'Thank you for today...'' And Raman just put his arms around him saying

'Am proud of you, you know that...'' and Aditya nodded before letting go sitting back in the chair is eyes back on the screen again

'Okay, I will see you when I get back...'' Said Raman and he made his way out

'Uhhh Boss...'' Called Ishita causing Raman to turn]

'Ahhh as you know, I sort of have the night off...'' She said

'Yeah I know... Just get back here tomorrow morning... ' He said

'Alright... Thanks...'' Said Ishita

'Anything else...'' Said Raman

'Nope that is all...'' Said Ishita

'Can I go now...'' Said Raman

'Sure...'' Said Ishita

'Then get out of my way...'' Said Raman causing Ishita to step back saying

'Oh sorry...'' And Raman just got to his phone and walked

It was a rarity but once in a while Raman as well as his friends would get together and spend some time together to try and catch up on old times. And that day was no less different. Each of them was successful in their career and that took up most of the time so when they got together they maximized.

They were supposed to go out the night before but given Raman had taken half a day off he couldn't make it and in all honesty he wanted to just get back to his kids. So he opted out which made all of them to come see him just so they could spend some time with him

'Okay can I just say, you have officially become old... Why didn't you come out with us last night...'' Said Pratik

'I was exhausted and I wanted to see my kids...'' Said Raman

'Oh please, you have one excuse after another besides, you need to get some...'' Said Kushan

'What makes you think I don't...'' Said Raman

'Where...'' Said Kushan

'Office... I think I know who... As a matter of fact it makes sense now...'' Said Romi but Raman chuckling said

'I have no idea what you are talking about...''

'You need to get out more often... I swear you look worn out... Look your even getting grey hair...'' Said Pratik teasing

'Oh please... Besides maybe you two need to get married...'' Said Raman

'Tell them...'' Said Kushan

'What is this? Husband's club ...'' Said Romi

'And be tied down... Hell no...Am too young for all that stress'' Said Pratik

'Pratik, I think you should worry more on who you are going to convince to marry you when you eventually get ready, you have been everywhere...'' Said Romi

'I can't be blamed if the ladies like what they see...'' Said Pratik laughing as he joked around

'On a serious note though, Raman... I am setting you up... You need to get back in the game... Try and move on...'' Said Pratik

'Can't believe I am going to say this but I agree with him...'' Said Romi

'Yeah I think it is time... Plus those two adorable children need a woman in their lives...You need a woman in your life'' Said Kushan

'Oh God, I am getting advice from a newlywed, and two bachelors who think relationships are based on how many times you get laid...'' Said Raman chuckling

'Well they are... For the most part ...'' Said Pratik chuckling as well

'Besides I just can't go out and get a woman and place her in my kids' lives... It is not that simple... And also I am not ready...'' Said Raman

'Raman... It has been six years... It is okay to move on... Am sure she would want that...'' Said Romi understanding more than Raman that he needed this for himself and also his kids

'Listen all jokes aside, sleeping around is all fun and games until it is not... It is very lonely... Believe me, I know...'' Said Pratik

'No one will think less of you if you choose to move on... It has been 6 years, you are allowed to do so...'' Said Kushan and Raman wanting to just drop the topic said

'Fine... I will think about it...'' And they also sensing it, just dropped it

'Anyway... Where are those adorable children of yours...? I haven't seen them yet...'' Said Pratik

'Aditya is at piano practice and Ruhi has dance lessons...'' Said Raman

''Oh yeah... I heard about Aditya and his singing talents... Who knew ...'' Said Romi

'Clearly talents form the mother's side...'' Said Kushan laughing

'Yeah Raman can't sing... He just makes random annoying sounds but cannot most definitely sing...'' Said Pratik and they all began laughing

'It isn't that bad... Have you heard yourself trying to do anything co-curricular related... ' Said Raman

'Well becoming a lawyer took up most of my time, that wasn't my fault, blame the system...'' Said Pratik

'That is such a load of crap... You just argue your way through everything...'' Said Romi

'I can't blame him there, professional hazard...'' Said Kushan looking at Pratik whose attention was else where

'What are you staring at...'' Said Kushan as he turned looking at the door

'Who the hell is that...'' Said Pratik causing all of them to turn

Ishita was supposed to be back there that morning but she took longer that she anticipated and therefore was late. She didn't take an extra set of clothes and therefore she had to comeback dressed as she had gone that morning from her apartment. So the usual kurtas she usually wore, were not what she was wearing when she walked into the Bhalla house. She had a white and blue body hugging dress that exposed her curves in all the right ways.

She had opened the door putting her bag down as she locked the door so when everyone turned to see who Pratik was staring at, Ishita's back was facing them. But when she turned, Raman couldn't believe what he was looking at. She was different, every bit different from what he looked at every day.

Her hair was curlier than it normally was and more layered. It wasn't in a pony like it usually was. She had left it down with a fringe that ran across to the back of her left ear. She had cut her hair, he could tell given how different sections of her front hair were cut at different lengths. She looked breath taking and any heterosexual hot blooded man would definitely attest to that

Raman looked at her trying not to stare but his eyes just couldn't look away, she looked different, more mature, definitely not the girl he hired and just like that, he was seeing her in a whole new different light... She looked absolutely gorgeous. Ishita walked to where they were as she said

'Good afternoon...'' Bringing them back from their stints

'Good Afternoon...'' Said Pratik putting out his hand and Ishita took it smiling

'Hey...'' Said Romi

'Oh hey... How are you...'' aid Ishita

'Fine considering...'' Said Ishita smiling

'Hello...'' Said Kushan humbly and Ishita replied

'Hello Sir...'' Before turning to Raman

'I know I am late but I had this interview that I just couldn't pass on and that is why I am late...'' She said

'What interview...'' Said Raman

'A job interview...'' Said Ishita refusing to give a lot away

'You're looking for a new job...'' Said Raman surprised

'Well yeah... I am not intending on being a nanny forever Sir...'' Said Ishita

'Right...'' Said Raman

'So the kids, is someone taking care of them... Aditya's recital ends in about an hour I can go...'' Ishita began

'No... Neelu went with him so she will be coming back with him. They are picking Ruhi on the way back...'' Said Raman

'Oh alright great...'' Said Ishita

'Don't be late again though... You need to understand I pay you to be here...'' Raman began

'I know... And I am sorry... Won't happen again Sir...'' She said and Raman let go of the issue

'Alright then, I guess I will settle in... It was nice meeting you all...'' She said

'No... Hold on...'' Said Pratik as he walked standing in front of Ishita

'Really...'' Said Kushan shaking his head as he sat back down

'Oh yeah ... At the Alt ... You had that client of yours who was scheming off of his workers' pension... You're the Muppet lawyer...'' Said Ishita remembering grabbing their attention again

'I am, the what...'' Said Pratik and Raman just smiled before he turned to Ishita saying

'Filter...''

'Oh Right...'' Said Ishita

'I mean... You're that lawyer...'' She added back tracking

'No...No... You said Muppet... Why...'' Said Pratik

'Well... I mean come on... He was an embezzler... Cheating people out of their pension... You thought you would come round throw your weight around threatening to sue everyone... While you were standing at the podium screaming at everyone, you looked like a Muppet hence the nickname...'' Said Ishita

'You're the one that found the money... I remember you...'' Said Pratik

'I have no idea what you are talking about...'' Said Ishita

'No it is you... None of those workers was smart enough to pull it off...'' Said Pratik

'You think I am that smart... Wow... Thank you for thinking so highly of me ...'' She said smiling

'I know it is you... Not admitting it is smart given what you did was illegal...'' Said Pratik but Ishita just continued smiling

'I have to say though, you clean up nice...'' Said Pratik

'And you don't look so wrong out and exhausted like you did them, I guess putting that to bed did a lot for you...'' Said Ishita turning to Raman as she said

'I will take my leave now... It was nice to see you again lawyer...''

'Sure...'' Said Raman but Pratik wouldn't just let it go

'I agree...'' Said Romi as they laughed him off but Raman wasn't convinced he was off

'But seriously, do you know if she is single...'' Said Pratik

'I don't know... These are not conversations one usually engages in with their nannies...'' Said Raman

'Do it on your own time and not in my house...'' Said Raman irritated

Raman's friends have all left and he and Romi were still their going about a few more details on the proposal they intended on giving to Iyer Technologies. That deal was still not yet resolved and yet it was going to be huge in ensuring that their company went global. So with the little time they got together, they spent it working, all the time.

'Wow... Is there anything else you two do except work...'' Said Ishita as she handed Romi a cup of coffee

'Can't we see we are busy...'' Said Raman

'Oh Please Raman calm down... We haven't come up with anything constructive for an hour now...I am exhausted I need a break...'' Said Romi turning to Ishita as he said

'I don't work a lot, do I...'' Said Romi

'Well most of the time we meet your always working or moving around calling someone about work...So Yeah'' Said Ishita as she turned leaving

'Whoa... Wait... Where are you going'' Said Romi causing Ishita to turn

'Back to my room... Why...'' Said Ishita

'Why are you going back there are you busy with something'' Said Romi

'They went with Neelu to Nitya's place... Aditya was invited and didn't want to go alone to Ruhi tagged along... I thought they told you about this...'' Said Ishita

'She was leaving for some bank job but she had got it on volunteer basis and therefore, according to their policy, they don't pay you until the end of a quarter, which was three months from then. So we were utterly broke and I was the only one who was a bit flexible because of what I do. So when I saw this advert for one I figured how hard can it be so I applied. And he shockingly offered me the job and some good money...'' Said Ishita chuckling as she added

'His kids are a bit too much sometimes but, they grow on you after a while...They are the reason I haven't quit'' And Raman looked at her shaking his head

'I swear I have no idea why I haven't fired you yet...'' Said Raman

'You have tried, I just don't let you...'' She said and Romi began laughing but Raman just chuckled

'Mimi is the one I met that day at your place...'' Said Raman

'Yeah, she is. She is like the sounding board for all of us. She is like the responsible big sister, you know, the one you turn to when you can't quite understand anything...'' Said Ishita

'Like I am for Raman here...'' Said Romi

'Oh please...'' Said Raman and they all laughed as Ishita added

'You must really care for her...'' Said Raman

'More than you know...'' Said Ishita and for the first time he could see her vulnerability. It wasn't all games with her; one could hear the actual concern for someone else other than herself

'Hold on... I am still trying to get over the fact that you went to her place...'' Said Romi

'Why...'' Said Ishita surprised

'Her apartment is on my way home, I figured why not...'' Said Raman defensively

'Hmmm If you say so ...'' Said Romi

'I swear it is like you two speak a different language most of the time...'' Said Ishita shaking her head

'I am curious, what case was Pratik talking about?'' Said Raman

'What...'' Said Ishita

'You hacking someone or something...'' Said Raman and Ishita threw her head back laughing

'I did not, I refuse to accept or deny the fact that he thinks that I hacked someone. I didn't do anything that would be deemed illegal...'' She said

'Right... Now I know he was telling the truth... You babble when you lie...'' Said Raman taken a back as he said

'Am not sure why I know that...''

'Well what happened...'' Said Romi ignoring Raman's confused state

'He had this client of his who was the CEO of a company named Agro-Exports; he was embezzling, money from his company, money that was meant to be for they had working people of the agro-exports. He had this pension scheme that he used to dupe them. He had hid this money and the courts were failing to come up with a way to make him pay. Going to jail wasn't helping and the miserable settlement they were trying to bargain was bull crap... A slap on the wrist... So one of their children was a friend of the Alt...'' Said Ishita

'What is that...'' Said Raman

'It is this place where people like me who love coding and programming go to learn and expand our horizons. Now we wanted to have a place where we were in control and not them or their lawyers... So we met there, it was like our safe heaven... We met there and One of the programmers who work there hacked Pratik's phone, imprinting a virus, which virus would spread to any device near it as long as it had a wireless connection...'' Ishita began sitting up

Raman could see this was her, computers were like designing for him, it was what she loved to it and the way she talked about it, it was evident, she was home she was in the zone

'You hacked the CEO of Agro-Exports...'' Said Romi, impressed more than surprised

'It wasn't... You people give me more credit than I deserve... But thank you for thinking I am that smart...'' She said smiling cheekily

'Now Pratik just transferred that virus to a couple of people whom they hacked until they got to the CEO himself. From there on it wasn't that hard. He had two devices, one where all his business and private calls when to and another where he called a number that seemed untraceable, but only to the novice. I mean the Alt is full of people who dream of such challenges; they got together and got to hacking and we found out that it was a number for his accountant or someone who was helping him hidethe money. So we came up with a very carefully crafted plan. We hacked his accounts, took control of them and sent money back to the people it belonged to... Every last penny, even his wife got some...'' Said Ishita smiling

'But you didn't hack him...'' Said Romi

'Of course not... That is illegal...'' Said Ishita and Romi chuckled

'Okay you are a tad scary...'' Said Raman but Ishita just laughed

'I am scary... Are you kidding me? Have you seen yourself when you mad...? The vein on the left side of your neck is always close to popping out when you yell at me...'' Said Ishita and Romi threw his head back laughing

'You are lucky I am not firing you... You are mad... What is the matter with you...? Did you grow up in a jungle...? Blah... Blah... Blah ...'' Said Ishita imitating Raman and Romi just kept on laughing holding his stomach in the process

'I do not talk like that...'' Said Raman

'Whatever makes you feel better boss...'' Said Ishita smiling as she looked at him expecting him to grumble or throw back a senile comment but he just smiled

'I swear, no other person talks to me the way you do...'' He said

'Really... ' Said Ishita as if surprised

'You are just all kinds of abnormal and rude...'' Said Raman

'I am not rude, abnormal maybe but not rude... I just tell it as it is. Without the bullshit and all the fuss of being afraid because you're the boss ... ' She said and he just shook his head

'Oh right...Sorry... I am seriously working on that...'' She said

Romi sat back and realized in those seconds there was no one else in there world but them. It was so bizarre how Raman couldn't see it or maybe ithad to do with the fact that Ishita was a very clueless tomboyish 22 year oldgirl but somehow along the way, the dynamics of their relationship had changed, drastically. Too bad none of them saw it.

'Okay enough about me... What about you? Designer RKB...Did you always want to be that...'' Said Ishita

Romi knew the answer to that, every Bhalla knew the answer to that, everyone who loved RKB Fashion knew the answer to that, but he also knew his brother hated talking about that. Raman needed to find a way tomove on and she was going to be important in that. So Romi holding his breath couldn't believe when Raman said

'My wife is... was the one who got me to fall in love with this. I loved fashion but I never thought I would earn a living doing that. But I met her in college and she loved dressing up, I loved helping her look amazing and it just sort of began from there... Once we finished college with her help we got a loan and began RKB Fashions in our garage... and things just went up after that...''

'So she is like your inspiration...'' Said Ishita

'Something, like that...'' He said

'You must have loved her a lot...'' Said Ishita

'Lucky woman...'' Said Ishita turning to Romi as she said

'Ohh... He is the talent and the face; I am the business side... I help out with marketing, expansions, product launches, you name it...'' Said Romi

'By that specification, shouldn't you be the grumpy one...'' Said Ishita trying to make light of the moment and Romi laughed

'I am not grumpy, why do you say that...'' Said Raman chuckling

'Boss, I can count the number of times you smile in a week. It is less the number of times you shout at me or Neelu sometimes... By the way she is one who cries easily, so every time you scream at her I feel for the poor soul... She must really care about you if she is still here...'' Said Ishita

'I have to agree with her there... You are so grouchy sometimes...'' Said Romi

'Of course you take her side...'' Said Raman turning to Ishita as he said

'You are infuriatingly irritable... If that even makes sense ...'' Said Raman

'Am with him on that one... Ishita you are something else, no filter, no sense of boundary, a tad rude sometimes...'' Said Romi and Ishita with an o-shaped expression as she said

'He is all moody all the time; your mood swings have no end. Hot and cold, then mild then all the way back to scorching hot all within the space of a couple of minutes...'' chuckled Romi as Raman joining him

'There is one thing I like about him though...'' Said Ishita and Raman frowned a bit

'Oh do tell...'' Said Romi

'Even with all these traits, he is a good dad. I mean he has his flaws, and this is the judgmental me talking but he is a good dad. I know a few who just cope out but he tries, that in my book makes him the better man than most...'' Said Ishita and Romi smiled looking at Raman waiting for his reaction but Raman just stayed there staring at her not knowing what to say

'Papa...'' Said Ruhi running to where they were saving Raman

'Hey hon... How was the party...'' Said Raman

'Ohh... You should have been there. Adi...'' Ruhi began only for Aditya to say

'Ru... That is our secret... Right Neelu...'' he turned to Neelu

'Yes that one... And then he sat down and played the guitar and sang for her...'' Said Ruhi

They were three women standing in his living room all casually dressed and each carrying back packs of some sort which he figured had laptops in them. They all walked to where he was but none of them said a thing. They just kept on looking at him as if trying to find something
