Part 11

" I thought u were my friend Twinkle!!"

A tear dropped from his eyes..

He had never expected her to do what she had done...

Not only propose she had forgotten how important this friendship was to him

Why Twinkle why ?..

He even wondered today..

High school - a place where we just take things way too seriously... And then we say later it was a simpler life...

Even though he and Riya broke up a year after... and he did find the love of his life in Gunjan...he could never mend things with Twinkle...

He did want to talk to her...

But she having feelings for him...didn't allow him to...and today was her b'day..

Every year he would pick up the phone and decide to wish her and break the ice...

After all she was her best friend and no one was able to replace her

She had left a hole in his heart...

He made himself believe that Twinkle would have gotten over her feelings and wanted to be only friends again

But something kept stopping him

And every time he saw her number on his phone...his parting with Twinkle flashed in front of his eyes

The way she broke down ...

The way he left her like that

Yes a guy and girl could be friends if only u knew where to draw the line

Twinkle crossed it...but Dhruv would never

She was his one and only best friend

And in spite of everything after 5 years he still felt the same...

But today something urged him to click on the dial button...

Something told him it was time...and he finally pressed the dial button

...

Twinkle's phone rang...

Somewhere she wished it was Kunj...

Somewhere she was waiting for his call...

And it was her b'day!

Few yrs back there was only one guy who would call exactly at 12...

It was Dhruv but not anymore...

But an unknown number flashed on her cell

She picked up...maybe he was calling from another number...Twinkle thought hopefully

"hello...who is this?"

"hello...pehchaana?"

And it all stopped for a moment

It wasn't Kunj...

It was the voice which was embedded in her memory...

All those calls spent on trying to study together on phone...all those problem hearing and solving sessions...which would lead nowhere ..and every time she felt like crying...she would call to very same person..."DHRUV...?"

"chalo shukr hai pehchaani to"

"tumne ...----kai---"

Her voice started breaking

"happy b'day Twinkle...sorry itne saalon se i couldn't..."

"hw did u get my number??"

"jitna bhi badal lo..i have my sources"

They shared an easy laugh...

And then silence again...

It was hard...to believe that the guy she could talk limitless to ...she couldn't find even few words...

She had never confronted him after that day

She never talked to him after that..she didn't even try to .. some stories had met its end..

And neither he called or tried in anyway..

"thanxx" .. That's all she managed to say...

"I am sorry Twinkle...I know I over reacted..."

"noo---- Dhruv---"

"stop stammering... I m not a stranger.."

The old tone of Dhruv was back

And suddenly it felt as if those 5 years had disappeared ..

The awkwardness was gone

What she had with Dhruv was true friendship..

She knew it after few yrs that she had messed it up...

And all pain was washed away...in just few moments...

They continued talking

It was 1 am...now...

"I am sorry Dhruv for everything..."

"That was the thousand time u said that...and I am sorry tooo"

"u r the only best friend i had and i ruined it"

"i could have called before...but i let it get ruined"

"i am just glad we cleared everything...thanxxx for calling..."

"ufff...so much formality...milo mjhe tum...will beat u up..."

Somewhere Twinkle smiled...

She finally got the friend she had lost all these years and somewhere she knew that what she felt for Kunj was definitively love...

"hey u there"

" yh me here...Dhruv..."

"happy b'day once again ...gift kya chahiye"

" u already gave me the best i could get"

"u shud sleep...doctor!"

"u shud tooo"

"goodnyt... Dhruv..."

"gudnyt...Twinkle"

As Twinkle kept the phone...

Sill trying to recollect what had happened...

It was as if all her wounds had disappeared...

All her pain washed away...

And suddenly her phone beeped

1 msg received

She opened it

"hi...Kunj here.. Happy b'day...may god bless you gnyt"

It was already the best b'day ever...and it had just started

She slept peacefully...unlike the other nights

She knew if things had got mended with Dhruv...which she had never imagined would...

Everything else will also fall into place...

If she and Kunj were meant to be together they would be...

...

Kunj paced up and down...

Unlike Twinkle...he didn't have any reason to sleep...

He wanted to tell her his feelings.. wanted to be by her side...

But the way she had got scared forced him not to...

What was she afraid of?...

As the night passed Kunj couldn't get any sleep..

He was used to it by now...

After the tour Kunj and Twinkle had hardly talked...

He kept wondering but had no answers to any questions running in his mind.

Twinkle got up with a smile...

She knew it would be a great day...

Dhruv's call had just made things easier

She felt lighter at heart...

And the only person on her mind...was ...Kunj...

...

Twinkle Twinkle...

That's all he thought...

He looked at her reply for his msg..

"hi...thanxx a lot!!..god bless u too..gdnyt :)"

He smiled...he wanted to see her ...

He got ready for college...

...

"hi Chinki"

"hey Twinkle...i called u at nyt but the call was on waiting for so long and then i dozed off...by the way who called?"

"oh actually..."

"Kunj?????"

"no nooo! Dhruv called"

Chinki's expression went from shock to blank to shock again

She was at loss of words

Twinkle explained everything to Chinki

But Chinki was still at shock...

They headed to class

Kunj sat at the back bench...

He gave one of his killer smiles...

Twinkle so wanted to go and sit beside him ...but always something stopped...

But today she felt as if she was cut loose from something she had been tied to..

Chinki caught her hand and they both went and sat in front of Kunj...

Kunj's face lightened even more...

Twinkle fell deep into her thoughts...

Some times there are things we wait for but somewhere we always feel that it's never gonna happen and when they do finally...the feeling can't be put in words

It was as if a heavy weight had been lifted off her heart..

She never thought the pain she had been carrying all these would be washed away in one night and the world will be a different place again..

as if in a second she had woken up from a long painful dream... and her savior was just right behind her...

she turned and again looked at Kunj and as if he was listening to her heart ..he looked up from his desk and gave her a smile that said it all...

and Twinkle's heart skipped a beat and she knew she was heading towards her happy ending...
