Choodamani - Kahee Unkahee

The relationship between Ram and Sita was beautifully described in the Chudamani scene yesterday. Valmiki mentions that Rama and Sita used to communicate through their hearts(silently). That was the hallmark of their relationship.

Rama gifts Choodamani which can be interpreted as the crown jewel or mainly the one that goes into the Chuda/hair. For him, its a very private and personal thing. Chudamani is something that Sita would wear all the time but it would be seen only by Rama and not others.

For Sita, it was shirodharya(something worthy to be worn on the head ie. a prized possession). Figuratively, Rama himself was her Choodamani based on what she says at the time. A symbol of Rama that she carries all the time that no one else would know of

The Choodamani hence symbolizes the very private relationship they share.

The other beautiful scene was Lakshmana barging in. Well he didn't barge but he didn't hesitate a lot in saying 'Pranam Bhabhi'. The fact that he could come to the doorstep underlined that relationship he shared with Rama. He views Rama like father. And in Hinduism, elder brother's wife is considered one of the six mothers. And Lakshmana is into that mode already. He approached them like a child. And Rama had to wean him away by putting hand on his shoulder and asking him to move on.

She gives Chudamani and also narrates Kakasura episode to Hanuman as this was an incident that happened between Rama and Sita. Even Lakshmana didn't know.

Now that Sita and Rama have moved on with their Grihastha life after the ceremony yesterday, they are going to move towards vanavas.

Valmiki says they spent many seasons in Ayodhya happily. Some say this period as 12 years. Sita and Rama had a happy conjugal life during this time. Even in Vanavas, they had good time together.
