She was desperately trying to control her tears. She didn't know why this was happening, but she knew that she was going to die without Shraddha.
Randhir walked up to her and held her shoulder reassuringly and she just broke down crying. He wrapped his arms around her as she sobbed into his chest, rubbing her back soothingly. She still hadn't changed out of her bridal wear.
"She will be okay," Randhir whispered. "Everything will be okay."
She could tell from his tone that he was scared too. If he couldn't even convince himself, how could he convince her? She still pressed her face more deeply into his chest, because of the comfort she found there. In his arms, she felt safe.
"I d - don't even know what happened," she whispered, her words muffling into his shirt.
"I'm telling you she'll be fine," Randhir said, caressing her hair now. "Shraddha will be okay."
She continued to sob against his chest, while he comforted her silently. It was only when the door to the emergency room opened and the doctor walked out that Randhir let go of Sanyukta and she took a step back from him. She then ran up to the doctor nervously.
"She's okay," the doctor said and both Randhir and Sanyukta breathed a sigh of relief. "She passed out because her blood pressure went down. She's a bit weak, but it's normal for someone in her stage of leukemia. Please don't stress her out because it will make things harder for her."
Sanyukta wiped her tears away before smiling at the doctor.
"Thank you doctor," she said gratefully. "Can we meet her?"
"Yes," the doctor said, "But she says she only wants to see her mommy, not her uncle Randhir."
Randhir felt a knife stab at his heart as the doctor told him that and Sanyukta looked up at Randhir apologetically. She walked upto Randhir and took his hand in hers before squeezing it reassuringly.
"She'll come around," she told him softly. "I'll talk to her."
Randhir nodded and smiled at her before Sanyukta let go of his hand and she went inside Shraddha's room to speak to her.
Inside the room, Shraddha was lying down on the hospital bed. Sanyukta pulled a chair next to her and kissed her daughter's cheek before sitting down and stroking her forehead softly.
"How are you feeling?" she asked her daughter lovingly.
"Better," Shraddha said. "Mommy what happened at your wedding? Why did that lady slap Parth uncle?"
Sanyukta took a deep breath and took Shraddha's small hand in her own.
"Shraddha don't worry about the wedding - that lady and Parth uncle are good friends. Parth uncle made a mistake so she was mad at him, but they sorted it now and they're friends again... we all stopped ourselves from making a mistake before it happened. Shraddha, Parth uncle is not who your mommy should marry. Your mommy should marry daddy, don't you think so?" Sanyukta asked, taking another deep breath, anxious to know Shraddha's reaction.
Shraddha looked confused for a moment, before a look of understanding settled on her face.
"Daddy?" Shraddha repeated, as if she was hearing correctly. "You mean that man who keeps on hurting you? Of course not."
Sanyukta looked at her daughter with shock - she was so young, yet she knew so much.
"He hasn't... he hasn't hurt me," Sanyukta whispered, in an effort to convince her daughter to accept Randhir.
"He has hurt you," Shraddha argued. "I know you cried mommy! But mommy, you know when you went to sit down for your wedding, I noticed that daddy was crying too..."
She looked at her mom in amazement, and Sanyukta smiled softly.
"He loves me Shraddha, that's why," Sanyukta told her daughter. "He couldn't see me marry Parth uncle."
"Do you love daddy too?" Shraddha then asked Sanyukta.
"I love him a lot," Sanyukta whispered to her daughter and then Shraddha smiled.
"Okay then, I think you should marry him," Shraddha told her mom, causing Sanyukta's heart to leap and a smile to settle on her face. "But on one condition. I have to give him that condition... can you call him?"
Sanyukta nodded, and she let go of Shraddha's hand before excitedly running outside the room, straight to Randhir. She hugged him tightly, resting her head on his chest.
"She agrees, but she wants to talk to you. Come and listen to her condition," Sanyukta told him breathlessly.
"Agrees to what?" Randhir asked, pulling her off him and looking into her eyes.
"Come with me," she urged, and then she grabbed his hand.
Randhir's heart was beating quickly as Sanyukta pulled him to Shraddha's room. Upon entering, Randhir smiled. Shraddha looked better than she had looked earlier. She still looked weak and fragile though, and it broke his heart, making him emotional... still, he had to keep his smile there for her sake.
"Shraddha," he said, taking care to sound steady, he didn't want to show that he got emotional when it came to her. "How are you feeling?"
He walked up to her and touched her forehead softly. He saw Shraddha glance up at him, almost like she was confused.
"I didn't call you here to talk about myself. I called you here to talk about mommy," Shraddha said, and then glanced at Sanyukta. "I have a condition for you if you want to marry her."
"Marry?" Randhir asked, surprised that the topic of marriage came up so soon.
"Yes, if you want to marry her, then you have to promise me you won't ever bring tears to her eyes again," Shraddha stated firmly, and Randhir looked up at Sanyukta, who was smiling with happiness.
