Kill the idea!

shoot a scene that required him to kill his mother because it went against his ideals

It's refreshing to see some TV actors taking
a stand and not toeing the line even
if it means losing a plum role. This exactly
what Prabhat Bhattacharya, who,
plays the baddie Devdutt in Aruna Irani's
Doli Saja Ke, did a few days back. Prabhat
refused to shoot for a scene in Aruna
Irani's Doli Saja Ke on SaharaOne that required
him to kill his mother (played by
Maru Sheikh). He not only refused to
shoot the scene but also threatened to
quit the show if he was forced to do it.
Our source from the unit tells us, "Prabhat
put his foot down when he was told
that he'd have to bump off his screenmom.
The shooting was stalled for a long
time. Finally the production house and
the channel heads discussed the problem
and agreed to Prabhat's demand."
When contacted, Prabhat did not deny
that he had taken a stand. He says, "I just
could not identify with what I was asked
to do. It didn't go down well with me."
He continues, "A few days ago, I was
asked to slap my mother (played by Priya
Arya) in Kasturi (a Balaji show) but I was
very uncomfortable even then. After seeing
that scene, my mother and sister told
me that they felt like slapping me," he
added.
Executive Producer of Doli Saja Ke, Sanjay
Sharma, confirms, "Yes, this happened
and there was a lot of tension on the sets
that day."
Will Maru be bumped off finally? "Oh
yes. But now someone else will do the
job," Maru reveals.
Currently, Prabhat is doing Ekta
Kapoor's Kahen Na Kahen and her flagship
show Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi.
In the past, he was seen in serials like
Koi Apna Sa, Aasman Se Aage, Khiladi,
Manzilen Apni Apni, Kumkum and Kuch
Khona Hai Kuch Paana Hai. He had come
to Mumbai a few years ago to pursue a career
in martial arts, but landed up in telly
land instead.
