The film is set in the late 1950s and is a pure work of fiction. Rustom is inspired from certain real life incidents that happened in the past and will be shot in India as well as in Britain," Shital Bhatia of production company Friday Filmworks had told IANS.

As the name suggests, Akshay would be playing Rustom Pavri, a Parsi naval officer in the film. This would be his first role as a Parsi, the minority section mainly living in Mumbai and Gujarat.

Rustom will see Akshay reuniting with Neeraj Pandey, who directed him inSpecial 26 and Baby, and is serving as the producer of this film

This case has been overdone in bollywood and tv, nothing new except maybe the treatment will be diff since Neeraj is directing , who's playing Sylvie?
