Having read all the comments and being a strong believer in equal rights, I just want to say:
Firstly, Tara has been used to hiding everything from her Dadaji. Everytime she had to do something she knew he wouldn't approve of, she would hide it, and confess only to her 1 brother that she knew would support her. In this situation, while she knew Naitik / Akshara / Naksh would probably support her, her internal historical fear of rejection would have overwhelmed her and overshadowed her knowledge of Naksh. She thus reverted to her normal habit of hiding.

Also, what if (in Tara's mind) again they refused her permission? In fear and panic, she just did whatever she thought, especially, since she was sure that the match would finish in time.

At the same time, if this situation was faced by Naksh, he would have no hesitation in coming out openly with it to all, and immediately Dadaji and everyone would have accepted it without question, and bent over backwards to find another day for the engagement.

Its a basic difference between a boy and girl mentality, and Tara has stayed true to the character in this case. With this decision, she is also suffering, thinking of her engagement being cancelled /postponed. So much it is like this in real life for us. Those of us who are working, how many times have we neglected home commitments for office ones, and vice versa.

This is the all time split that only women have to face.
