The Greatest Love - not a famous show or talked about one by any means, But its a Hong Sisters show and was a huge hit a few years back...how I stumbled on it was a miracle. Searching for hilarious romantic comedies, I came across this article in Drama fever where fans had voted for the seven most hilarious couples.and the male lead here...Dokko Jin, apparently took the cake and ate it too!!
Initially with his moustache and weird beard, he looked more like a comical caricature...not your handsome, pretty boy by any means. He looks every year of his late 30s, early 40s age...but then once the moustache is shaved off (and that sequence is hilarious again 😆)..you slowly realize why this guy was a super star!! He grows on you...a little bit of patience, and you are most handsomely rewarded...literally 😃!!What made me fall in love with this one, to such an extent, that I actually decided to pen my thoughts ..(my friends know I m notoriously lazy in doing so...Nikki...my darling you being my witness for a long time now)...is a few things that make this show unique...
The falling in love...its fast...not the usual rate..nope its quick from his side...and that's what makes it more interesting...totally one sided!!
The worst proposal ever...yup..he wins this hands down😆!! I have seen around 17 k shows...this one bags the award for the worst one!! The way he proposes...OUCHH!! In the female leads place I would have slapped this guy really hard and walked away in a huff...you actually cheer her on when she coolly turns him down...and says on his face that he doesn't do anything for her...she feels nothing...nope...nothing!! ..Yes...another unique aspect...he proposes...she turns him down..and you agree with her...HAHAHA!!
The Second Lead Syndrome...if you are a K drama fan, like me...the second lead always kills you!! You invariably fall for him, pity him, sympathize with him, empathize with him and feel that he definitely deserved the girl, always the better man, the best guy for her!! Guess what...the only show where the male lead gives the second lead a run for his money!! You will feel for the second lead...but soon Dokko Jin will have you rooting for him...you will have to agree that he was the best and only choice for the girl here...
No one can love a woman, like this guy does!! Once again have watched tons of dramas, K dramas, romances and what not, but yet again the level of his love almost reaches an obsession!! He himself jokes about being a stalker!! 😃...He gives love a totally different meaning. The way he stands by his girl...it melts your heart!! His love is special, unique, one of its kind...and we only end up wishing we have an unconditional lover like him...
The other side of the story...the dark side of stardom!! A lot has been written and showed about this ...but this show brings to light a totally different aspect of stardom!! The pressures of fandom!! The terror of netizens!! How Scary, how destructive fan love can be!! How blind...a mob can be!! In today's world of cyber bullying, where any one can express anything and get away with it without any accountability...we need to understand that damage our words can cause. The havoc such acidic views cause in a person's life...yes, coz at the end of it ...they are humans too!! The Korean acting scene especially is high pressure, where keeping a good reputation, a clean image means highly paid commercials and some juicy work contracts...one scandal has the power to destroy your career..one wrong move on the personal front...can kill you on the professional one!! YOu think its wrong...its unfair...just take a look at this show and you will never want to be an actor ever...
And if all of the above reasons, don't work for you...only one should be enough...DOKKO JIN...DOKKO JIN...DOKKO JIN!! The character is uh-mazing!! Complex in its inception, and a treat to watch as it unfolds layer by layer. He is unbearably conceited, arrogant beyond lovable, egoistic, proud, temperamental, rude, eccentric and whimsical!! Not to mention utterly self serving and selfish, can't look beyond his proud nose, believes he is the center of the universe and the sun of the galaxy (which he actually is😉)!! He is God's GIft to this world...the worst thing...he knows that!! 😉!! And rubs it in gleefully at every given opportunity!!
The actor that portrays him...OMG!! I am more the content is kings type..so for me to go gaga over someone...he has to be a good...really good performer, making me sit up and take notice. I was so impressed that I actually had to go online and find out who this not very well known guy was...turns out I was wrong!! He is quite an actor, a movie actor with years of experience and quite a few hits under his belt...and his experience explained it all!! Such a seasoned performer!! And such an outstanding portrayal of an unforgettable male character!! Also realized that Dokko Jin was quite a rage...he is a legend in K shows!! Cha Seung Won!! He plays with Dokko Jin, so much of elan, sophistication in his work!! Such style and panache...such mastery over an act!! Dokko Jin is certainly a very OTT, in your face, weird kind of character...but to keep him from getting comical, and yet keep him funny...to keep him serious, yet hilarious...to keep him totally outlandish and garish yet keep his sophistication...Cha Seun Won...keeps Dokko Jin on the edge...an inch here an inch there...and it would have cut the character to pieces!! Its not easy to play such a gaudy character and yet to bring such a level of coolness to it...stupendous!!
Sorry...I tend to run away with my words...and this got tooo long!! But in my defense...they made me do it!! 😆

..and about the vm...honey we are pathetic...I have already checked this one out multiple times and is my fav...
