Bubble, Bubble, My Dear Bubble...🤗

True to your tantalizing UN, you created such a charming bubble around us readers with your last couple of chapters. 😊

It might be the recency bias, but of all the lovely chapters you've given us so far, Chap 41 and 42 seemed the most outstanding. So lovely, so subtle, nothing overstated, but with such a deft interplay of emotion and plot throughout.

I just loved the interplay between the 4 leads in Chap 41. And the way their behavior has slightly shifted, too. 😛 Ragini, now very keen to make amends, win Swara's affection and trust again. Being quite calm and resolute, so uncharacteristic of her usual paranoid, hysterical self. Lakshya certainly has handled her well, made her secure of where she stands in his life, and what she has to do to make things really smooth from hereon.

Could anyone earlier have ever imagined a Ragini being willing to be at the baadi when Swara was at Maheshwari house? The paranoid Ragini would have thrown a fit, would have had nightmares even when awake! 😛 of what Lakshya might be upto, would he be traipsing lovelorn behind Swara! Its such a positive change, a delight, to see this Ragini.

And Lakshya, while still working on his relationship, is mature enough to give it everything he has. He gets annoyed and a tad impatient on Ragini's behalf, asking Swara to be more understanding and mature, and let Ragini go to the baadi, to take care of Shomi. 😊 I loved both Swara's and Ragini's reactions to that. Swara, understandably, is not so willing to forgive Ragini so easily, to forget all the sins she has committed, including the one against Shomi. And Ragini, is somehow assured and composed enough to understand Swara's point of view. It is she who explains to Lakshya that she understands Swara's concerns for Shomi. Perhaps, the fact that Lakshya was willing to go out on a limb to defend her, struck further deep chord within her, deepening her already growing sense of security and trust in him.

The SwaSan interaction here was pure gold. How he gently stood close to her, allowing her the comfort to vent out to his patient, observant ear, all her worries and fears. The way he held her loosely but comfortingly within the protective shelter of his arms. And the way he finally told her, to give Ragini one more chance, if only to support Lakshya in what he was doing. After all, as he rightly said, the downside was limited, what with Shekar being nearby, and their being able to monitor Shomi's well being regularly.

I just loved the ending scene between the sisters, with Ragini being the loving, indulgent one, and coaxing Swara gently into their earlier affection. This way she told Swara to focus on Sanskaar, and the way Swara felt, blushingly, that she was finding it difficult to focus on anything else, was superb!! 👏 👏

And the next chapter...was romance distilled and bottled in a concentrated, ultra fragrant jar of attar. 😉 😳 My God, that song, the SwaSan interaction...if I get palpitations and have to get admitted, Bubble---I hold you responsible!! 😆 😉

I just loved the gradual deepening and growth of Swara's emotions towards Sanskaar; and her own awareness of them. Her attraction to him is growing by leaps and bounds, and the way she feels that heightened awareness when he is around; the fact that she realizes it would be such a wrench to be away from him, was profoundly evocative of her state of mind. She is falling for him, falling deep, and falling fast. ☺️

And that song of Rafi Saab... Rafi Saab and Lata Ji's voices define romance for me, and you just sent me on a rocket ship somewhere to outer space. 😛

Please update Chap 43 soon! Can't wait!

Yes, that's the thing - he's free to court her now and he's doing that assiduously - and Swara's heart is melting... fast!!
Thanks 😊

Dearest Viji,
What more could a writer ask for than a reader and commenter like you? 🤗
Such involved reading, such layered responses and finally, such generosity in your replies!
Thank you so so much - you're a sweetheart!

Very happy you liked these chapters - and pleased that you noticed the change in dynamics. In spite of himself, Lakshya is becoming loyal to Ragini... and if she behaves well, she gets to keep that!

And the Swasan romance - yeah, well... old Hindi classics send me all moony eyed too 😆😆 - so I couldn't resist putting one sultry little number in for Sanskaar and Swara...😳 - you're right, she's falling deep, falling fast.

Once more, thank you!

(Ragya, SwaSan) Fan Fiction Series

Chapter 43

Ragini's decision to go back to her mother for healing worked well.

At first, in spite of her high fever Sharmishta was puzzled that Shona had sent Ragini instead. But Swara explained over the phone that she couldn't come... and Sharmishta, a little reluctantly, accepted Ragini's help.

Ragini did her absolute best... preparing soup and light khichdi, helping her mother sit up occasionally, remaking the bed and generally cleaning house. It was a nostalgic time as well, for she was able to live again in this house where so much had happened, looking back at events that went back two decades.

Even when she recovered a little, Sharmishta was a little distant at first, even disbelieving. She knew that the young girl had had a skewed upbringing... she had seen for herself how a child's loving nature had been stunted, how she had been led to feel rivalry, competition, mistrust... but Ragini was also the person who had tried to kill her daughter. The person who had lied to everyone and pushed her Shona off a bridge into the river. Who had tried to cut Swara off from her love, her life, her father...

But Ragini was unfailingly loving... not pressing her attention but still extremely attentive. One afternoon, the fever subsided and Sharmishta accepted a cup of tea from Ragini, who sat down in a chair next to her, sipping her own cup.

"Why have you really come here, Ragini?" Sharmishta asked quietly.

Ragini put her teacup down and collected her thoughts. "I've come for many things. First, to ask for your forgiveness. For everything I've done. For what I did to you. And most of all, for what I did to Swara... I know you find that most difficult to forgive."

She looked down at her hands and then raised her eyes again. "I also came to you because I needed help. I need to talk... find out why and how I went wrong. I need to re-examine my life, my values... understand how I turned out so selfish, so determined to set my own life right at the expense of others'. You were here, in the baadi, from when I was a little girl. I was drawn to you even then but my mother and Daadi wouldn't let me come near you. But I always felt like you were my mother as well. I've come to you for help, Maa!"

Sharmishta's eyes welled with tears. Finally, here was her daughter who had become lost under a heap of misguided impressions!

So they talked. In snatches sometimes, or in long reminiscences, remembering, matching incidents... Ragini pieced together the story of Janki, Shekhar and Sharmishta... an unhappy triangle of conflicted loyalties... how Sharmishta had come back to the baadi under the most difficult conditions... "I didn't want to be a factor in your parents' marriage... but my mother was ill, alone... I was struggling financially... there was no choice..."

In the evening, Shekhar, so happy to have Ragini accessible again, told her a little of his perspective... his pain at having leaving two women unfulfilled, at being unable to fully do his duty as a lover, husband or father.

Ragini saw the past through their filters, understanding more deeply the influences that had been around her when she was a child... she had absorbed them all like a sponge. She saw how she had let the childhood repression make her bitter and warped... and also she felt, on a ray of hope, that she needn't stay that way...

+++

After Ragini had called in to say everything was alright, Lakshya relaxed. He spent the first night reading a couple of hours into the night and went to sleep spread out across the bed, exulting in his freedom over the entire room.

The next evening, he spent some time with his mother, and then chatted with Swara and Sanskaar at their favourite terrace sit out, enjoying a camaraderie that would have been impossible a few months ago. But, after dinner, Sanskaar and Swara went off to their room, and so he went to his... finding it a little flat. He read a little, but this book wasn't as gripping as the one he'd finished yesterday.

He pulled out his phone and called Ragini. She gave him an update, and asked him about his day. They talked for a while, but then Ragini had to attend to Sharmishta and said good night. Lakshya stretched, turned out the lights and went to sleep.
