Priyanka Chopra talks about producing an international mobi-series and missing B'wood.
After a successful crossover to Hollywood as an actress, Priyanka Chopra is making her debut as a producer with an international mobiseries. Titled It's My City, the 14-episode biweekly is set for a digital release on January 22. The actress, who dons a desi avatar as a 'know-it-all' landlady to four young girls living in Mumbai, insists that the show is much more than just her special appearance.
"I have newbie jitters," PeeCee confided as she prepared to board a flight from Los Angeles to Montreal where she is shooting the next season of her American TV series Quantico. The new show's four debutantes are Saudamini Kalra, who plays a headstrong, bindaas character, Disha Thakur, whose Sonali is "even more Sanskari than Alok Nath", Aneesha Shah as Tina, who is a "push up bra and looks great on the surface", and Yasemin Delikan as Nikki.
She described the series as a romcom along the lines of Sex and the City. "It will answer many questions that often pop into a man's mind, like what cat fights look like or what happens on first dates," the 33-year-old actress promises, adding that she hopes her own experiences of wanting to create an identity will inspire Indian girls to take on challenges head-on.
Despite her anxiety over treading uncharted waters, PeeCee is confident of engaging her 35 million followers on the social media. "Digital is the new frontier in content and I'm diving right in. The thought behind the mobiseries is to connect with youngsters in a way they identify with, and engage with them on a robust mobile platform with quality and original content. Now, it's time to press play," she exclaimed.
Priyanka, who became the first South Asian to bag a People's Choice Award, shared the stage with Vin Diesel and hobnobbed with Ellen Pompeo and Academy Award winner Viola Davis. Point out to her that she's become a global icon and she downplays it saying. "I'm just a girl living her dream. I tell myself, 'Let's go have some fun', I make it happen," she laughed.
Meanwhile, back home, buzz is, she and Amitabh Bachchan are the new brand ambassadors of Incredible India's flagship tourism campaign. She is yet to receive a formal intimation on the matter and can't talk about it. She reveals, "The Quantico schedule has hit my Bollywood plans for a six. I will be filming here a lot more. I'm constantly reading scripts and working 18 hours a day without breaks. I only get time to unwind on flights. I have a lot more surprises in store as a producer, wait and watch" she says enigmatically.
She's been killing it on the red carpet with flair, has signed her first American endorsement deal and aced her first magazine cover with the same ease she displays back home. For the actress, it's no big deal. "I'm lazy, I want to take advantage of the fact that I have great metabolism. When I start getting fat, I'll work on it. For now I love food and I don't like the gym. As long as I look like this without doing anything, why even bother?" she asks.
