Very nice couple of chapters, Bubble. Lakshya went off on a trek, huh? Roughing it out to get some time alone, to think things through. 😊 He already had 10 times more perspective in your Fic than he ever had in the serial, and if anything, the time away seems to have made him even more perceptive, more mature.

And finally, finally Ragini spending some time in much needed introspection and honesty. Realizing that her fears and paranoia about Swara were misplaced; that much of what plagued her psyche was owing to the climate of mistrust and suspicion, which her upbringing by her harridan of a Dadi instilled in her.

I think the fact that she hadn't discussed their ugly quarrel to her dictatorial Dadi, and her spineless, brainless father, would have meant a lot to Lakshya. At least, it must have assured him that finally, when push came to shove, she did have the shred of innate decency to listen to what he felt, what he said were the red lines of their relationship. And that little moment, where he says that he likes people who don't give up; that he wouldn't ever give up on her, and she shouldn't on him, either was very sweet. (I never in my wildest dreams thought I'd say that about RagLak, but hey, I've told you before, you've actually made me like Lakshya here! 😛)

I liked the way Lakshya himself came to some degree of realization, that his blithe behavior of getting engaged to Ragini and breaking that twice over, in his love (infatuation?) for Swara, his efforts to cut ties arranged with one sister in order to forge a relationship with another, must have severely exacerbated the already existing fissures.

And again, that sentence where Lakshya assured Ragini that there was nothing between Swara and him and there never would be; he would feel so very happy if she moved ahead to have a full and happy marital life with Sanskaar, was well done. As was the succeeding bit where Lakshya very rightly says, that more than him pledging his word and Ragini trusting him, she needs to change her thought patterns as well. She can't keep on walking on the knife edge of suspicion and sullen resentment towards Swara, when they are both daughters in law of the same home! Hope Ragini manages to stick to her resolve that she would genuinely try to be sisterly towards Swara---in the true sense of the term, not the frenemy type rivalry with which she's always viewed her so far (when not outright hating her!)

Though there wasn't much of SwaSan in these couple of chapters, liked the small bit about their date, the movie, dinner, ice cream 😆, and the sedate walk with Sanskaar holding her hand...😉. I liked how Sanskaar took her back home immediately when he saw how tired and sleepy she was. Him carrying her high heeled sandals upstairs was cute! 😉

Eagerly looking forward to Chap 39 dear!

Thanks Viji! 🤗🤗

Yes, during that fight Lakshya wanted no negotiation absolutely on one point - there should be no lies between them. He knows Ragini is messed up but he thinks honesty with him is key.
And Ragini not calling in extra forces was a big sign to him - of her intentions, of her seriousness towards the marriage at least.
So as far as his anger went, that must've melted when Sanskaar told him that Ragini had NOT escalated the fight.

And then Ragini made a simple clean matter of giving him the truth about that incident, so it was a huge relief to him - they had something to work on and work towards, after all.

Ragini opening up about her past was a bonus - a result of so much introspection and the fact that she HAD to decide now which way to grow if she wanted Lakshya in her life.

Swasan - yes, Sanskaar is delighting in the fact that he can now openly cherish Swara. 😳

The Best of Things
(Ragya, SwaSan) Fan Fiction Series
By Bubble

Chapter 39

Maheshwari House was peaceful. Not just quiet but an aura of quietude hung about the place. The elders had gone to Barmer in Rajasthan for a family wedding with Uttara in tow... and the younger lot had reign of the house for four whole days. Parineeta had seized the chance to visit her maika, and Adarsh had gone with her. Lakshya and Ragini had gone out to dinner... and Swara and Sanskaar stayed at home and ordered in. Although it was wonderful to live surrounded by family, sometimes it was a rare pleasure to have the whole house to themselves.

They'd eaten on the terrace, tucking into lasagna, pizza, fries, washing that down with cold fizzy drinks and then digging their spoons into some delicious hot chocolate brownies in a nest of vanilla ice cream, poured over with chocolate sauce.

Sanskaar stretched like a contented cat. "That was amazing, Swara! Why can't we have pizza and brownies every day of our lives?"

Swara laughed at him... "Then what about kadhi chawal? What about aloo lauki ki sabzi with pooris? I remember how you came back from that trip to Japan... the sight of ordinary dal and rotis drove you to tears of gratitude!"

Sanskaar grinned, "Yeah, I like ghar ka khana but this is great too!"

Swara cleared up the cartons and tissues and came back to the terrace. Sanskaar had slid down the diwan, already dozing lightly, showing every sign of wanting to spend the night here.

"Get up, lazy bones! Mujhe bhi baithna hai!"

"Hmm..." he stirred with some effort but half sat up, making room for her beside him. She unfolded the shawl she'd brought and draped it around them, making sure he was covered as well. They sat there for a while, with him resting his head on the side of her shoulder, aware of a rare contentment.

"Sanskaar..."

"Hmm mm?"

"The moon is gorgeous tonight."

"Hmm!"

After two minutes, "There's a lovely breeze as well!"

He squinted up at her. "This is remarkably observant of you, Swara!"

She continued, "And there's no one else in the house!"

There was a gleam in his eyes. He sat up straighter and looked at her. "Yes?"

She looked at him side-long. "Aren't you going to kiss me?"

Now he did sit up straight. "Now, there is a great idea!" he said, pointing a finger and then laughing at the half-sulky look on her face, "I thought you'd never ask!"

She was a little peeved at him - imagine having to bring this up herself!

"Come here!" he said, waving her over. She moved closer.
He patted his thigh lightly. Her eyes rounded. "On your lap?" she asked.
He nodded.

A little shyly she settled herself on his lap, arms around his neck for support. He wound his arms around her and pulled her close, till their faces were inches away.

"How about.. you kissing me?" he said softly.

"I'm not sure I know how," she whispered.

"You might not, but your lips will know, Swara!" he said.

"Okay," she smiled tremulously.

His eyes, molten dark brown, were on her face and she raised a hand to flutter down his face, closing his eyes. Now she took her turn - and she took her time - to look at him... the forehead with spikes of hair stirring in the breeze, the shape of his eyebrows, the curve of his eyes, the thick fringe of his eyelashes, the contour of his jaw, the cleft in his chin, the shape of his beautiful lips... she drew her hands to his face, full palms caressing his neck, his jaw and... her thumb moved along his lower lip... he barely breathed.

Finally, she bent and touched her own lips to his... tentative at first... small butterfly pecks. Then she lingered longer... she tasted chocolate first but underneath that, she tasted him. She tugged on his lips, a little bolder, coaxing a response...
It wasn't long in coming... he clenched his hands into a fist fighting the urge to take what she offered for a minute but Sanskaar could no more resist her lips than he could've resisted another slice of chocolate brownie... his hand went possessively to the nape of her neck and he angled his head and deepened the kiss. His tongue sought entry and on a gasp, Swara gave it to him...

Ten minutes later, their breaths ragged, they came up for breath, almost horizontal now on the diwan. Her head was on his chest, and his hands soothed her back in lazy sweeps.

"Swara..!" he uttered.

"Hmm?" she raised her head questioningly.

"I think I've figured out what my most favourite dessert in the world is!"

"Hmm mmm?" she asked, still rosy and heavy lidded.

"Swara Maheshwari's chocolate flavoured kisses with a hint of vanilla."
