CHAPTER 16. ARNAV GETS JEALOUS PART II!
"Prem!"
"Khushi!"
Prem grinned as Khushi arrived at their meeting point. They had decided to meet outside the hall the party was in, the day before.
"Chalo! Hum aaj tumhein na duniya ghumaayenge!", Khushi spoke.
"Duniya ghumaayenge? You mean you will spin the world?", Prem was confused.
"Offo!", Khushi slapped her forehead, "No! I mean I will show you the world!"
"Aha! No thanks! I have gone on world tour many times! Europe! America! Africa! I have been on almost all continents!", Prem replied with a smile.
Khushi looked at him as if he was an alien, "Arre baba! It was a phrase! That's how people... Ugg! You know what? Forget it!", Khushi shook her head and closed her eyes. Devi Maiyya! If you did want me to give an English speaking friend, atleast you could have taught him basic hindi phrases! This is too much!
Khushi opened her eyes, "I will give you a tour of Dilli! I will show you Laal Qilla, Qutub Minar...",
Prem cut her off with, "Khushi! Stop!"
Khushi frowned and Prem continued in amusement, "I have been in India for many years Khushi! Don't you think I must have seen these places by now?"
Khushi pouted, "Phir kyun humein yahaan bulaaya? Why did you call me here and asked me to show you Dilli?"
Prem huffed, "My dear Khushi! I want to see Dilli from your eyes! You have lived here for years! These historic monuments are things that are shown to tourists but what I want to see your version of Dilli! What you think is Dilli for you!"
Khushi blinked as she processed his words. And then she smiled, "I got it! Come! Let me show you my world! And I am starting with my old Office!"
Prem grinned, "Alright! Lets get in the car!"
Prem walked towards the car when Khushi called out, "Car?"
He frowned at her and she grinned, "Arre! You want to see my Dilli right? Then you have to see it my way!"
Khushi walked ahead and called out for a rickshaw. Prem's eyes widened, "What? Rickshaw? No! No! No! No! No! No way I am going in a rickshaw!"
Khushi shrugged, "You are the one who wanted to see the world my way! Now get in!", Khushi ordered as she got into the rickshaw in front of her. Prem hesitated but then his curiosity worn out and he followed her.
Soon they arrived at a corner shop and both got down. "This is my first office in Dilli!", Khushi announced. Prem blinked as he took a look at it. A small shop squeezed into a small corner, the shop looked like it had seen better days before but was now deteriorating. It was small showroom of jewelry and Prem realised that Khushi worked here when she came to Dilli first. This was her humble beginnings.
"We cannot go in! The owner hates me!", Khushi winced.
Prem frowned, "But why?"
Khushi rolled her eyes, "His son tried to... How am I supposed to say it... lets just say that he was creep and leave it at that!"
Prem looked at her alarmed, "He did not..."
"No! No! No! Nothing like that!", Khushi shook her head, "He just tried to keep on proposing me even after I rejected him. And when I complained to the father he took his son's side and asked me to marry his son or get thrown out of the job! Long story short, I quit!"
"If you quit, then why the hell did you bring me here?", Prem was confused.
Khushi chuckled, "Because of that!" She pointed to the opposite side of the road and Prem turned to see a stall.
"Chaat pakodi!", Khushi squealed as she grabbed Prem's hand and dragged him away.
Chaat pakodi? Now what was that? Prem wondered as they stopped in front of the stall. Before he knew it, Khushi ordered two plates and he was holding one of them. "Eat!", Khushi ordered and Prem hesitatingly took a bite. But his hesitation vanished once he got a taste of it. It was delicious. Soon both were happily munching on it. "This is why I brought you here!", Khushi told him once they were finished with the dish, "I used to come here every weekend and eat it as a treat for surviving another week with the cheapo!"
Prem chuckled at the face she made when she mentioned the owner's son. Soon they were out of there and Khushi dragged him into another rickshaw.
Next stop was Chandni Chowk. Here Khushi showed Prem the building she leaved in with some of her friends on rent. She even introduced some of the neighbours. Next she dragged him to nearby market where she had a blast trying out different earrings and jewelries. She refused to allow him to buy her anything but she did enjoy trying them all. Prem simply could not look away from the girl. It was the first time he met a girl, so brave, so cheerful, so excited and not at all like those prim and proper society girls that his Bua kept on throwing at him.
Khushi brought Prem out of his thoughts when she asked him to join her in eating golgappe. Prem very happily accepted her invite and enjoyed eating spicy golgappe with her. As they ate, Khushi asked him a question, "You don't mind eating street food? As far as I know, rich people tend to avoid eating at road!" Her voice seemed surprised. Prem shrugged, "While I may not have eaten street food in India, I have eaten street food a lot in America! And I agree that India is not as hygienic as America when it comes to street food, I did ask you to show me your world. Now it would be wrong if I backed out!" Khushi grinned, "You are an awesome person, you know that?" Prem shrugged again, "So I have been told!"
Khushi then showed him some more places in Dilli including her favorite mandir. The next few hours passed away and it was nearing nine at night when Prem complained of hunger. "Oh! I know some good five star Hotels here!", Khushi told him, "They have amazing food or so I have been told!" Prem shook his head, "No! You promised me Dilli with your eyes! So I want to eat food that you would eat at such a night out!" "Are you sure?", Khushi asked and Prem nodded. Khushi thought for a moment and then she smiled. She dragged him to a small road side restaurant where they were making Pav bhaji. She ordered two plates and soon both of them were enjoying the dishes.
"I have to admit Khushi, this is delicious!", Prem informed her.
"I know! I have eaten here so many times! Tell me which is better, eating this road side pav bhaji or that continental food where they serve spoonful as one dish!", Khushi asked him.
Prem pretended to think and he chuckled, "I have to admit, I think this is better!" Khushi gave him a triumphant grin and Prem continued, "But that might be because of company too!"
Khushi looked away unable to say anything to that compliment.
Prem realised that he made her uncomfortable by his words and decided to divert her mind, "So tell me!"
Khushi looked at him and Prem smiled, "About your teacher, Mr. Raizada!"
Khushi rolled her eyes and huffed. And then she regaled him about some of her sessions which left him and laughing out loud. Before they knew it, the dinner was over and both walked out of the restaurant holding ice creams in their hands.
"So he humiliates you and yet you remain quiet! Why?", Prem wondered.
"Why not? He is just an obstacle in my life! Him and his cruel words, both! Obstacles will always come in your life, but when the goal is worthy, you can face anything life throws at you!", Khushi replied.
"But not at the cost of your dignity!", Prem retorted and Khushi froze.
Prem continued to walk only realizing after few seconds that Khushi was not walking with him.
He turned around and frowned, "Hey! Kya hua?"
Geeet shook her head and smiled, "Kuch nahi!" She walked beside him but his words continued to float in her brain.
Khushi happily walked upto the Raizada Mansion. The outing was perfect as far as she was concerned. Prem was the best person anyone could ask for as a friend. He listened to her words, he considered her feelings, he was the sweetest guy in the whole world. With a smile on her face and happy thoughts in her mind, Khushi wandered into Shantivan. Prem had wanted to come in to drop her off but she did not want to trouble him and refused his offer. And now as she entered the house, she was thankful of her decision, because right in front of her stood Arnav Singh Raizada, eyes spitting fire, hands on his hips and in a fighting stance. Khushi summoned all her strength to fight back. She refused to allow one person to ruin such a beautiful evening.
As Khushi gathered herself, she looked around searching for remaining Raizada siblings when her eyes fell on the clock. It was nearing 11 in the night. They must have gone to bed. Then why is this Raizada still awake? Chal Khushi beta! Get ready for a fight!
As Khushi and Arnav came face to face, neither noticed a sleepy Raizada wandering out of his room to get water. Why are the lights on at 11 in night? Aakash wondered as he scrubbed his eyes with one hand, the other hand carrying the jug for water in his hand. He blinked as the sleep left his eyes and the view in front of him cleared. He watched from the first floor as Arnav and Khushi came face to face. Oh my! Khushi comes back so late! And Bhai in angry mode! Di definitely needs to see this! He ran off to Anjali's room to wake her up.
"Where were you?", Arnav barked the moment she came face to face with him, "Is this time to come home?" Khushi was about to apologise when she remembered Prem's words, "Not at the cost of your dignity!" She took a deep breath and opened her mouth, "Are you my father?"
Arnav froze at her words. He was taken aback, "What?"
"I asked, are you my father? No right? Then why do you care how late I come home? You have no right to scold me on this topic Mister!", Khushi scolded him.
Above Anjali and Aakash just arrived from her room to hear Khushi scold Arnav. Go Khushi!', both cheered in their minds.
Below Arnav was too shocked by Khushi's words. He had expected Khushi to apologise and give him her sweet smile. Where was the sweet girl who received his harsh words with a smile? Where was the girl with whom he could behave the way he wanted to and she did not take offense? When did Khushi grow a backbone?
Khushi smirked, "I assume by your silence that you have no answer for me! Then allow me to take leave! I need to hit the bed so that I can be refreshed and wide awake for your training sessions!", Khushi huffed and walked away.
Arnav was not allowing her to walk away so easily though, "KHUSHI! It is my right to scold you if your personal matter affects your studies!"
Khushi, who was just climbing the stairs, froze. What did he say? She turned around in anger and stormed over to him. It was different to mock her and scold her about her old habits and it was different matter altogether when he questioned her devotion to her dream.
"KYA KAHAA?", Khushi shouted as she stood toe to toe with Arnav and glared into his eyes, "What did you say? What did you mean by personal matter affecting my studies? When did that happen? Tell me! Yes, I did not improve as much as you expected but none of it, and I repeat, none of it was because of any personal matter! GOT IT?"
Arnav stumbled back at Khushi's rant and sat on the sofa behind him. Above them, Anjali and Aakash laughed into their hands. Oh my Khushi! You are too good! Chote totally deserves this! Anjali mused.
Khushi turned to walk away again but Arnav refused to let her have the last words, "But it will affect if you continue to meet this boyfriend of yours!"
Khushi rolled her eyes. This man is determined to ruin my evening! Why me Devi Maiyya? Why me! With a bored expression on her face Khushi turned and spoke, "One, he is not my boyfriend! Two, he is just a new friend! Three, when these matters affect me, then start shouting at the top of your voice! Right now, drop this matter and just leave me alone!", Khushi huffed and turned away. She walked off but halfway turned back and walked back to Arnav, "And next time when you have problems, talk to me in the morning like a civil person! Right now you are acting like a brute from my home town!"
Arnav's jaw dropped open and he stared in shock at Khushi's retreating back. Aakash and Anjali chuckled at his expression. I know what brought this on, Bhai! Aakash mused. This was not the case of Khushi coming home late or anything affecting her studies! Nope! This is the case of jealousy! Aakash shook his head. Jealousy thy name is Arnav Singh Raizada!
Humein aisa nahi karna chaahiye tha na? I should not have scolded Arnav like that right? Khushi thought as she lied on her bed trying to get some sleep. But the argument with Arnav kept on intruding her thoughts. Was she right? Or was she wrong in scolding Arnav like this? Khushi did not know. Her whole life she had accepted the way everyone treated her as the way of life. Her parents disowned her because even after being born a girl she had dared to dream. People in Dilli looked down at her because she was a waitress. Arnav also scorned her from the moment they met despite him deciding to train her. The only people who treated her with some respect were Aakash, Anjali, Naaniji and Prem. But Prem's words collided with her beliefs and she did not know whom to believe; the world who said that due to her status she should keep her head down and let everyone walk over her or Aakash, Anjali, Naaniji and Prem who showed that she deserved to be treated just the way they are treated by the world. Khushi did not know the answers. But one thing was for sure, Naaniji was a wise woman, doesn't that mean she is right? Khushi closed her eyes deciding that Naaniji was oldest and hence she was right. She did the right thing, Khushi assuaged her guilty feelings. Arnav had no right to barge into my personal life and hence he is not allowed to scold me about anything other than my trainings. Now that the turmoil in her heart eased off, Khushi fell asleep in minutes.
By the time Khushi solved her problems and fell asleep, Arnav already was in his dreamworld. Or was it nightmare? After all, what he was seeing was horrifying to him. In front of his eyes, some faceless fellow was taking Khushi away from him. "Khushi!", he called out for her but Khushi was smiling at the faceless man and walked away from him happily. No! NO!
"NOOO!", Arnav woke up with a shout. He looked around realizing that he was in his room. It was a nightmare! Phew! But what if it was real? Arnav straightened in alarm. What if Khushi... No! But why do I care if Khushi gets together with some other guy? Why do I care? The answer came right away. He was falling for her. Damn! He cannot fall for her. She is not right for him. And he had promised that he will remain bachelor forever! No! He won't let a chit of a girl win! He is Arnav Singh Raizada and he will be in control of his mind, heart and body.
But what to do now? Now that Arnav was falling for her, how to stop it? Arnav thought for a while and came up with a solution. I will distance myself from her. Yes! I will stop spending time with her. These feelings will fade away easily! Yup! Perfect plan! From tomorrow I will keep my distance from Khushi Gupta! With a proud smile on his face for solving his problems, Arnav went to sleep. He did not know that soon something will happen that will make him throw his decision into the fire!
WARNING: THIS IS NOT A LOVE TRIANGLE STORY!
KHUSHI AMD ARNAV ARE MADE FOR EACH OTHER.
AND ALSO, I HATE LOVE TRIANGLES SO I WOULD RATHER AVOID THEM!
Some reader of mine decided to quit reading this story because they assumed that this was a love triangle story even after I posted a warning in the Chapter 14 that this is not a love triangle. So I have decided to post the above warning in every chapter till Prem leaves. I don't want readers quitting story because they misunderstood. If you don't like my story, its ok. But don't leave because you assumed something. Ask me, clear your doubts, and then quit if you still don't like this story.
And that was some interesting update, wasn't it?
But next update will be more interesting because in next chapter there will be...
Fire in the room,
Marbles in the mouth
And
Prem will meet the Raizadas for the first time.
Oh my!
So see you all on 16th of January with the next twist in this story!
Happy New Year and see you Next Year!
Thank you, take care and have fun,
Kalpana
