Sujoy & I are doing a film which will roll next year: Vidya Balan

Says Vidya Balan, who, for the first time, will bring in her birthday with husband Siddharth, away from her family on January 1.

On Sunday, having wrapped up her portions for Ribhu Dasgupta's TE3N in Kolkata, Vidya Balan was on her way to Mumbai with nolen gurer rasgullas for her sister. Early on Monday, she left for an unrevealed destination with husband Siddharth Roy Kapur to bring in the New Year and her birthday on January 1.

"This is the first time in 36 years that I will not be celebrating my birthday with my family. Even if I was shooting I'd be back in town by December 31, and if I was at a party, I'd be back before midnight, to drag my parents out of bed and my sister from her bash to wish me.

This year I feel I've finally grown up. My parents can sleep undisturbed and my sister and brother-in-law can do what they want as I will be away with Siddharth," she laughed.

Speaking to Mirror from Kolkata airport the actress was on a creative high after working with seasoned actors, Amitabh Bachchan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, in the City of Joy. "Kolkata is always so warm and welcoming, I feel so blessed. It's only a special appearance but Ribhu's script is fantastic. And and I'm playing a cop for the first time," she said.

Sujoy Ghosh, who's the creative producer of TE3N, was with her on the sets. Vidya admitted that they are working on something. "Sujoy and I are doing a film which will roll early next year, I'm hoping it will be Kahaani 2 but Sujoy has other interesting scripts too," she said.

This year, Vidya got a little too picky-choosy, fuelling speculations of an early retirement. No, she's not ready to hang up her boots yet and was only taking it easy to tide over health issues.

Also, none of the scripts she was offered challenged her creatively, carrying a 'been there, done this' hangover. Even the TV show she had given the nod to, turned out to be "routine" after the concept was developed. She had just one release, Hamari Adhuri Kahani, whose trailer and music impressed, but the film couldn't live up to the expectations raised from The Dirty Picture duo. Vidya wouldn't get into postmortems, preferring to dwell on her first Marathi film, Ek Albela, in which she plays Gita Bali and danced to two evergreen hits, including her favourite song,"Sham Dhale Khidki Tale". "Gita was charming and effervescent, I don't know if I captured that quality and danced as well, though I've tried really hard," she admitted.

Vidya is high on the list of every filmmaker making a biopic. She still has her fingers crossed that Rajiv Menon's life story on Carnatic singer, MS Subbulakshmi, will get made someday, and the film on Indira Gandhi too will get the requisite permission. "I also want to relive Meena Kumari on screen. I've been offered two films on her, one immediately after The Dirty Picture. But after playing Silk Smitha I wasn't sure if I wanted to do another true-life drama next. But Meena Kumari's story has always intrigued me," signs off the Parineeta actress.
