Bollywood's Best in 2015: Films that tugged our heartstrings with most bringing in the moolah
The shift in audience taste over the past few years has clearly indicated that new-age viewers crave compelling ideas and novel story-lines which need to be narrated in an engaging manner. Most box-office hits, big and small, in recent times have shown that the popular desire for novelty is here to stay and this aspect became more apparent in 2015. Looks like most filmmakers bore in mind the fact that the audience continues to be more experimental in their cinematic choices. What's more unique about 2015 is that most of these critically-acclaimed films with off-beat themes were also declared as huge hits at the Box Office which has never happened in the past. Let's take a look at some of these films this year -
Baby: An elite counter-intelligence unit learns of a plot, masterminded by a maniacal madman. With the clock ticking, it's up to them to track the terrorists' international tentacles and prevent them from striking at the heart of India.
Rahasya : Only child of a doctor couple is murdered in her sleep inside their large duplex apartment. The film was inspired by the Aarushi murder case which was met with some criticism by Aarushi's parents, Rajesh and Nupur Talwar.
Badlapur: Dark, edgy and gripping, Varun Dhawan plays a character called Raghu in this thriller. He's shown a family man until things turn around and that's when his new side is revealed. After his family is killed during a bank robbery, he decides to avenge their death.

Dum Lagake Haisha: A romantic comedy, the films shows how a marriage is arranged between a slim guy and an over-weight girl. Ayushmann Khurrana and debutante Bhumi Pednekar beautifully carried the story of Dum Laga Ke Haisha on their shoulders and created a record. Also, the positive word of mouth worked in its favour.

NH10: After her desert date goes wrong, a woman manages to not just stick it out but indeed give it back. Anushka Sharma was hailed as Bollywood's new angry young woman with this film which she also produced.
Tanu Weds Manu Returns: That Tanu Weds Manu got a sequel is surprising enough, but to have a sequel with an interesting plot is even better. Tanu and Manu's marriage collapses. What happens when Manu meets Tanu's look alike Kusum - and when Tanu returns?
Piku: A quirky comedy about the relationship between an ageing father (Amitabh Bachchan) and his young daughter (Deepika Padukone), living in a cosmopolitan city, dealing with each other's conflicting ideologies while being fully aware that they are each other's only emotional support.

Dil Dhadakne Do: On a cruise to celebrate their parents' 30th wedding anniversary, a brother and sister played by Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra, deal with the impact of family considerations on their romantic lives.

Drishyam: Desperate measures are taken by a man who tries to save his family from the dark side of the law, after they commit an unexpected crime. Ajay Devgn took a break from playing the part of Bollywood action hero and went on to play a simpleton's role in Drishyam.

Bajrangi Bhaijaan: A man with a magnanimous spirit tries to take a young Pakistani girl back to her homeland to reunite her with her family. Salman Khan was simply endearing in the role of Pawan Kumar Chaturvedi.

Baahubali: S S Rajamouli's fantasy-epic showed us what we can do if we put our art and heart into it. Rajamouli is the first real cross-over director from the south whose Telugu film has made Bollywood sit up and gawk.
Margarita With A Straw: A rebellious young woman with cerebral palsy leaves her home in India to study in New York, unexpectedly falls in love, and embarks on an exhilarating journey of self-discovery.
Talvar: Talvar is a recreation of one of the most controversial crimes in recent years -the double murder of Aarushi Talwar and Hemraj Banjade in 2008, for which Aarushi's parents, Rajesh and Nupur Talwar, were convicted for life in 2013.
Pyar Ka Punchnama 2 : After falling in love, three roommates experience changes in their lives.
Tamasha: It's about the journey of someone who has lost his edge in trying to behave according to socially acceptable conventions of the society. This can be called as director Imtiaz Ali's most complex story but it gives Ranbir back again along with the lovely Deepika even as there are tracks when she goes missing as the spotlight is on Ranbir.

Bajirao Mastani: It was like saving the best for the last. This dramatic historical is the tale of romance between an Indian General, Peshwa Baji Rao I and his second wife, Mastani. Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra received accolades for their performances.
