Chapter 1-2:
"I was understandably dumbfounded. This was the strangest thing that had ever happened to me or anyone I knew. If my friends knew about this they would have freaked out. I took a selfie with the lamp. Thought about making a post. But then I stopped. Who would believe me? Wouldn't everyone think I am crazy? I know I am, but they don't! And I would like to keep it that way for as long as possible. So I decided against it.
I had heard of paranormal things and seen couple of spooky videos about it. But this topped all of it because it was...real. I just stuffed it into my bag and tried my best to forget about it. And I think I succeeded. I can distract myself into anything when I want to.
I flashed my eyes open and found myself in darkness. Looked like I had fallen into a deep sleep during Temple Run. I looked at my phone and to my dismay found it was 6 AM! I couldn't recollect the last time I had woken up at that hour. Anyway so I found myself wide awake unable to go back to sleep. I found my shoes lying under the bed it's toe pointing out. I began wearing it and before I knew it I was tearing out of the front door and into the track downstairs. I was actually jogging! Totally weird. Why the sudden desire to jog I wondered. But I couldn't explain it. I just wanted to.
I came back home and had never been so pumped in my life. Suddenly everything around me looked so interesting! You have to know that each day in my life is no different from the previous. Essentially I see the same people everyday, hang out with the same bunch of friends and come back home at a reasonable hour. So for my life to become interesting all of a sudden was no mean feat. I had become a total blank slate and looked in awe at the world around me.
Of course I wondered about this drastic change in me. I thought back on what had changed for me to become so active. It took me some time but eventually I connected it all to the lamp. I slept by its side every night. To test my theory I purposefully left the lamp at my friends house. I didn't tell her that it was something great or anything. I just 'forgot' the lamp at her house for a couple of days. Next thing I knew my friend was calling me every hour with a new plan to spend the day. Her hyper energetic state was beginning to get on my nerves.
So it was confirmed. The lamp was anything but normal and it induced a seriously case of high with whoever possessed it. My friend then returned back the lamp to me.
It was in my hand. Very innocent looking and old. It had soot all over the rim where oil was presumably poured from. It had blackened with age. What had this piece of lamp seen? Something told me that this lamp was telling me something I couldn't understand. What secret power did it hold!
With this power beside I was feeling that raw energy again. The world around me was drying up fast and I needed more dosage of new to get to the same effect. I began reading Parry Hotter. I couldn't get enough of it. The lamp in my hand reminded of the philosopher's stone in it. Is philosophy inside a thing or a person? At that moment I felt all the world's philosophies were contained inside that lamp. The way it was brought to me was fate. The culmination of my adventures to find something precious yet commonplace.
I know what you must be thinking. Coincidence. How can a lamp influence what happens in this world? But other than magic how do you explain its presence in my life? How come it gets me whatever I want how I want it. "
He coughed. It was the first time he interrupted.
"Ah...Where is that lamp now?"
He was actually listening to me? He was asking me questions about what I said? I couldn't believe it. He was actually interested in my stupid stories. Suddenly I felt morose.
"I lost it!"
I was feeling almost breathless.
"I know it sounds too bad to be true. But I did! I carried it everywhere. And when you do that with something and misplace it, you can't even remember when you last saw it. That is what happened with me. I lost that precious old thing."
He was silent for a moment. May be contemplating whether to believe me or not? Instead he asked me something which I didn't expect.
He "So your luck has changed back to bad or whatever after you lost the thing?"
I shrugged "I am how you found me."
He "I have a confession to make."
Now I knew he was handsome. Only handsome men confessed, didn't they? They are the ones with something mysterious to hide.
He continued "I...I am sorry if you are going to take this the wrong way. I was the one...who put the lamp on your doorstep. I saw the shipping address on your order. It was the same apartment! I thought why bother with phone calls. It was an old lamp and I just wanted to get rid of it. I left it on your doorstep. As I rang the bell the lift doors were closing, so I took off..."
