Surr-prrrise! I'm back again with the Greek God. And firstly, I must apologize to have kept you all waiting for so long. I'm really very sorry guys. I've been seeing all your messages but really had no excuse to give. I was totally blank and couldn't see the story further or feel the emotions of any of the characters. So I had to give it a really long break. Again, I can't promise that I'll be fast this time... as I still haven't delved deeper into the story myself. Lots of mind-digging to do before I come up with further parts. Of course... your continued support and encouragement inspires me to do more. Ever had one of those moments when you so badly wanted to say "no", but then you ended up saying a "yes" before you could even stop yourself and then you banged your head wondering why you said "yes" instead of "no"? That's the kind of web Manik was caught up in. He was now beginning to regret his decision to play this stupid game. And he couldn't help but blush hard at the fact that Nandini was staring at him with lots of questions in her eyes... besides the unfathomable contempt.
Manik was screaming so loud in his head that he wondered if she could actually hear him. Ohhhwww Gawwwd! At what God forsaken hour did I feel like hiding under this wretched table? Damn! Damn! Dayuuum! I should have just left. Urrghh!
But guess what? It's too late.
Being caught by someone like Nandini... someone who would never find his tactics cute or adorable from any angle... and that too long after the game had ended... was too much for him to handle. He just sat there under the table in a compromising position looking and feeling increasingly stupid by the minute as he struggled to meet her angry glare. He was so embarrassed that he felt like laughing and crying at the same time. Why is that I always end up looking like a douchebag in front of her? Every time I try to impress her, I end up with rotten eggs on my face!
Nandini was an unbelievable challenge who constantly tested his limits. She was God sent. To give him a reality check. He always thought... or rather... made himself believe that he was flawless and perfect... that he was the best... that he could handle anything and everything under the sky... until Nandini came by and unintentionally reminded him of how wrong he was. She with her tactics made him realize that he had been living in a dream world all this while. That he had never really accepted himself for who he was.
In the meantime... Nandini's department of emotions was facing a major traffic jam. There was a lot coming in at the same time that she felt overwhelmed. Surprise. Shock. Confusion. Anxiety. Anger. Disgust. The itching need to slap his cocky face.
"What are you doing here...?" In her bewilderment, she had almost uttered the words, but then quickly reminded herself of how much she loathed him and swallowed up whatever she was planning to spill out.
She quickly looked away in disgust (as if she didn't even see him), gathered up her phone and its parts with the sole intention to clear the premises, besides getting a clear message right across to him. Are you trying to be funny? If you are... keep trying. Forever. You're a monster to me and nothing's going to change that. No. Not even your attempts of being unusually sweet or your so called gifts! Do you seriously think that it's going to be so easy to buy me?
Nandini felt absolute hatred for the man and she had no clue why. The stairwell incident never failed to make her burn in disgust but try as she may... she just couldn't see the complete picture. Her memory of that incident was foggy and she could only remember bits and pieces of it. She had struggled through hours, trying to piece together the fragments from her mind... but it only gave her a headache and an overwhelming need to murder him brutally.
On the other hand, she was also worried. He was at her feet (like literally) for so long... and she didn't even know it. She secretly hoped that she didn't do anything weird to put that smirk back on his face. She was determined to wipe out his smugness (for good) before she was done with her notice. For some weird reason, she would do anything to just see him so helpless and trapped. But the very thought of putting up a full show for her silent spectator by exposing her legs for nearly half an hour or more sent chills down her spine.
She scooped up the phone, shot to her feet and hurried to the door.
"Shhhiit," Manik screwed his eyes and hissed under his breath. It didn't take long for him to realize what she could have been thinking. She thinks you're a jerk. As if you hadn't been one all this while. I need to set this right.
Manik bolted out from under the table (whacking his head in the process) and pushed the door shut even before she could open it. "I--- I wanted to talk to you..." he said breathlessly. There was panic on his face.
Now Nandini was the kind of girl who respected others' feelings and stuff. But in this case, she didn't even bother to make eye contact. He had crossed all the limits of her tolerance so the simple act of looking into his eyes would instantly dissolve her into an angry mass of protein.
She glanced out of the corner of her eyes as the obvious ruffle of paper caught her attention.
Manik pulled out a folded piece of paper from his pocket, straightened it out and held it before her. "Read it..." he said in a surprisingly polite tone. But she made no attempts to take it from him. "Please---" he pleaded.
She was frozen amidst conflicting thoughts. He wants to say something... wonder what it is... just take that paper and see what it is... give him a chance.
No!!! Just walk out! To hell with whatever he wants to say! Don't even touch that shitty paper!
But the first one took over and she slowly brought temporary relief to Manik by waving a green flag to read the contents. As she quietly took the paper, held it in her hands and read the matter, she tried to keep herself as expressionless as possible. She was determined to not get affected by whatever he had to say. Whether good or bad. But the words on the paper was quick and powerful enough to send painful spasms into her heart and sharp stings into her eyes with the need to let it out. Her face grew so hot and throbbed madly that she feared she would explode any moment. Yet, she held on.
"I know that I've been such an asshole and it was very mean on my part to have said all those harsh words and put you through whatever I did. But now when I think of all those moments... All what I want to do is apologize with all my heart.
I'M REALLY VERY SORRY.
For everything.
From the bottom of my heart I truly am.
And I promise to make everything right.
Hope you'd understand and accept my apology."
Sorry? SORRY!!!? Like seriously!!!? Aren't you ashamed of yourself to write all this shit? What kind of a person are you? How did you even manage to find the guts to APOLOGIZE to me after putting me through so much? After HUMILIATING me so much? After going to the extent of even picking on my family's memory? And you think it's easy? Oh... all what I need to do is just throw a surprise birthday party, butter her... buy her a gift... say sorry and everything's fine? Do you think that I'm a five year old kid that I'll forgive you after all the atrocities that you've committed against me!!!? Like seriously? Did you REALLY think that it was SO easy!!!? Go to hell! Get lost! I hate you!!!
These were the words that Nandini wanted to scream at his face after tearing up his... urgh.. APOLOGY... into bits and dumping it over his head. But she just stared at the paper with her puffy eyes, raised her brows and chuckled with a soft, sarcastic "wow!"
Now that the reaction he had feared was becoming a reality, Manik's anxious face began to drop and give way to a pounding heart. This was what he didn't want. A rejection. She can't say no to me. No one can.
But Nandini did. She crumpled up his apology into a tight ball and tossed it into the garbage with tons of hatred before storming out of the conference room.
Manik's hurt gaze followed her from the conference room to her work station. She slammed her poor phone onto the table and slumped angrily into her chair. Determined to keep a check on her escalating anger and hurt, she channelled all of her thoughts into putting her phone back together.
You shouldn't have lost it yaar. He was genuinely sorry. Did you see that look on his face?
I don't care! I don't care six pence for his lousy face. Sorry? Give me a break! Does he even know what it means? What an arrogant asshole! Coming to think of it... I should have slapped him! But no. I have my own morals and values.
Manik felt like crying as he bent over and quietly pulled out his apology from the bin. The humiliation he just faced now was beyond his tolerance level. It wasn't easy for me... and yet I did... I took that step and apologized... and she just threw it away like garbage... what the hell do you think Nandini Murthy? That you can just run over my face? You walked out here only because I allowed you to. But no. I'm not going to spare you now. Enough is enough.
His entire body throbbed and shuddered with intense rage as he shoved his way out of the conference room and stormed towards her with the need to overpower her. Once again.
