'Trust me, I'm excited!

Contrary to popular perception, Shahid Kapur is not sulking. The actor breaks his silence on Kareena Kapoor and Amrita Rao.

• There's so much written about your personal life...
A certain amount of clarification is necessary. I owe it to the media.

Is your relationship with Kareena Kapoor over?
Yes. Today, I am single.

• What went wrong?
I choose not to dwell on that.

• Why?
It's not just me and Kareena who are involved. Our families are involved too. I respect everybody. And beyond a point, I also feel that it's so fresh that a lot of things are being blown out of proportion. If I say something in one context, it will be taken in another context.

• Is it tough?
Trust me, I am excited. I have so much to look forward to. I just got back from Toronto after shooting for Aziz Mirza's film. Plus, I am getting ready for two more films.

• How did your parents react?
They were supportive. It's not that they were supportive only now. They have always been there for me.

• What is your take on Kareena's new relationship with Saif Ali Khan?
I wish her all the best. She is a very good actress and a great human being.

• Is a reconcilation with Kareena possible?
(Thinks hard) I like to take every day as it comes.

• Are you and Kareena in touch presently?
(Does not answer)

• How would you describe yourself as a boyfriend? Were you demanding and possessive?
Every relationship demands that certain compromises be made at both ends. After all, relationships are emotional.

• It's said that your special bonding with Amrita Rao created some problem in your relationship with Kareena
Amrita is a good actress and a wonderful human being. She is one of my favourite co-stars.

• She has even moved into a house very close to yours?
There are many heroines staying in my building - Priyanka Chopra, Konkona Sen Sharma and Ayesha Takia. If Amrita Rao too has shifted near to my place, what can I do?

• Moving on to Jab We Met. You have shot for the film mostly outdoors?
Yes. It was tough. Like, we were shooting in Manali at a bus-stop. We had to cancel the shoot because people continued to keep coming in the frame. We had difficulty in controlling the crowds in Mandava (Rajasthan) too. But you can't blame the people. They got a bit excited seeing film actors. It was a little stressful sometimes, but the outdoor backdrop is the USP of the film.

• You shot in extreme weather conditions
Yeah. We shot in below freezing temperatures in the North. We had installed a heater in a jeep, and as soon as the shot was over, we used to run back into that jeep. And then, we shot in Rajasthan where both Kareena and I turned black in two hours (smiles).

• How would you describe Jab We Met?
It's a love story but it's not a typical potboiler- ladka ladki mile, gaane ho gaye aur pyar ho gaya. There are many more shades to my relationship with Kareena in the film.

• Are you happy with the music of Jab We Met?
Yes. I love the Mauja and Tum Se numbers.

• What is happening to Boney Kapoor's Milenge Milenge where you star with Kareena again?
It's 70 per cent complete, but I haven't heard from the producer in two years.

Meanwhile, Pankaj Kapur turns director

Next year, Shahid will star in dad Pankaj Kapur's directorial debut. "My father has been thinking of directing a film for long now. He is now ready with the script. I am very kicked about his film," Shahid says.

Besides that, Shahid is getting ready for two new films. He has grown his hair long for a Ken Ghosh flick, which will be a dance musical.

Holy crap! Priyanka Chopra, Ayesha Takia, and Konkona Sen Sharma all live in his building. Of course they are all attached, though. Amrita Rao is the only single one if she is indeed moving there. I am looking forward to Jab We Met because I really really liked the director Imtiaz Ali's debut Socha Na Tha. Haven't really liked Shahid that much in his films, but I will make an exception for this one. Also the way he has conducted himself in this interview has made me respect him more regardless of liking his films or not.
