Does extreme beauty attract or put off audiences?

The most beautiful woman is Aishwarya Rai, in Bollywood of last 20 years. Yes, she achieved a decent amount of popularity but somehow people don't credit them with too much success, be it in terms of box office or stardom. Another extremely beautiful woman I can think of is Lisa Ray, who made a flop debut with Kasoor and then faded away. I mean, they have the kind of beauty that hurts eyes - it is so powerful. Does that make the audience not identify with them? I was just wondering if there is a reverse psychology at work here. There are many other factors at play also.
I am wondering if I make sense here. Do discuss.

What yaar ... Aish was a horrid actress when she started out ... yet she got one good project after the other ... and it was all due to her beauty ... bec she was so drop dead gorgeous that people couldn't get enough of her ... Her entire career/ success/ aura/ popularity - it all a based on beauty

The problem is beauty fades. And even when it doesn't, you start to look for something more substantial ...

Thats why aish got so much flak later on, ironically when she was actually improving

Beg to differ. Just watch Iruvar, her first film. She was remarkable. Yes, she wasn't very good in her Hindi debut Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya, but she did so well in the films later, like Jeans, HDDCS, Taal, Mohabbatein, Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai, Josh, etc. It all boils down to director IMO. If the director is clear about what he wants from her, she will transforms into that character. But if the director does not have too much conviction, it shows.

I think with Ash, a lot of directors are intimidated by her beauty, stardom, success. The ones who couldn't careless about how big a star she is, draw the best out of her, like Rituparno Ghosh, Mani Ratnam, SLB, Jag Mundhra etc.

Can't really answer your question. But I have cousins who will watch anything with Deepika in it. They say they just love staring at her on the big screen. 😆

Aishwarya was a so so actress. Lisa Ray wasn't the best actress either, atleast in her debut film (the only one I've seen)

You forgot about HR? Ot- no, I don't think so. Most of them are actually horrible actors, so whatever they have achieved in their careers, they should thank their lucky stars for.

Do you mean that the audience is jealous of their beauty and that's why they don't make their movies successful??🤓

No that's over-simplification😛
I menat, does beauty play a part in attracting audiences or does it blind the audience to the acting skills of the actor involved?

^^I am not talking about hotness, I am talking about beauty- the ethereal, mesmerizing kind like Aishwarya's and Lisa's...HR's and Arjun's among guys
Hotness is common. i think most actresses are hot

Depends for me Beauty should have substance otherwise they are just dolls.
Aish is just an okay actress and has very limited range in acting, most of the time she is known more for her looks then acting.

My preference will always be acting 1st then looks, if good looking person can act becomes a pleasure in viewing.
