Rang De Basanti director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra recently revealed at the IFFI sideline that actor Ranveer Singh had also auditioned for his movie Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. However, the film eventually went to Farhan Akhtar because the filmmaker says he found the latter's approach to the role most appealing.

The 2013 sports drama was based on the life of Olympian Milkha Singh. Mehra said though Farhan's age was wrong for the story, he instinctively chose the multi-faceted star for the movie.

"Farhan came as an instinctive choice. His age was wrong- Farhan was 36, Milkha was 22. But I felt out of all the auditions I had seen he was the best. There were three people who stood out- one was a new actor called Nitish, one was Ranveer Singh, who was quite crazy and then Farhan," Mehra said on the sidelines of IFFI.

"For me Farhan worked the best because his response was silent. I could see it in his eyes. That was it. That was enough for me."

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag also starred Sonam Kapoor, Divya Dutta, Pavan Malhotra, Yograj Singh and Prakash Raj.

Thank God Farhan did it and not Ranveer. Farhan had the maturity and depth to portray Milkha convincingly!

Both are my favorite actors, but Farhan was a perfect Milkha.

I like Ranveer and his crazy personality and he's a good actor But his voice is a turn off for me.
