" Mumma, I am going to office. I have a lot of work today, so I might come late." Khushi casually informed her mother because she knew that she had the responsibility of informing her mother, even if she didn't care about it.

" Aye Khushi, you cannot stay there after 8 PM. You are a girl and you are supposed to be back home before that or else talks of various kinds will start in the society, understood?" Suhasini's warning tone and her usual reminder of Khushi being a girl, made Khushi roll her eyes in irritation as she wondered if she sacrificed her love for that family which cared more about the fame, name and reputation than her.

" Mumma, this is my job. I am paid for it and I voluntarily chose this, 5 years back. And everyone in Delhi knows that in Software Industry we never have fixed timings as we have to meet deadlines and manage our works accordingly. We just bagged a new project and our deadline for the previous project is scheduled for tomorrow and I have to go through everything being the Project Manager. Also, I have my car right? I will drive back home myself anyways." Khushi calmly explained without a sign of irritation in her voice while holding her mother's hands in between hers, affectionately and compassionately.

" The only good thing which happened due to this is that, you got a good match, or else why should women even work? Their place is in their husbands' houses, working and serving him and his family. Now go and complete your work as soon as possible. I don't want you taking advantage of the situation and turning up after 9:30 PM." Khushi loathed Suhasini's views which said that a girl should be educated so that she would get a good husband in future and every single minute of her studying life was spent listening to the same from her mother.

" Okay, now I will take your leave..." Khushi's statement was cut in between as she saw Rahul's mother Sumitra standing at the door step and Khushi signed her mother about the same. Suhasini hurriedly walked towards the door and greeted Sumitra without their eyes meeting as if she was inferior to her and guided her in.

" Namaste Aunty." Khushi greeted her with a smile because Sumitra was always very affectionate and considerate towards her, probably even more than her own mother.

" Namaste, Bitiya. I hope you are doing great." Sumitra affectionately smiled at her while Khushi nodded with a warm smile on her lips in an affirmative manner.

" Suhasini Behen, I am here to tell you all a very important thing, so Khushi Bitiya, if you can spare a few minutes to this discussion although I know it is your time to go office, I will be really grateful to you." Before Khushi could answer, Suhasini spoke in hurried manner while signing to Khushi to agree to her words,

" Ji, Is it even something to ask? Of course, she will stay back. What is more important than marriage in a girl's life?"

" Suhasini Behen, Khushi Bitiya, I am very sorry to say this, but we are breaking this alliance at this very moment." Sumitra's words made Suhasini panic as if the most saddest thing ever has eventuated while Khushi was unable to believe that the alliance was finally breaking.

"Ji? You want to break the alliance but why?" Suhasini glared at Khushi while she silently let out a prayer to the god that this should be real and not one of those dreams she got habituated of seeing every night and day.

" Suhasini Behen, we never thought that we would be telling you something as shameful as this but yesterday we found Rahul in a hotel with a girl sans clothes in intoxicated and naked state. And we don't want to spoil Khushi Bitiya's life by marrying her down to someone as disloyal as someone who is shamefully our son." Sumitra joined her hands together asking for apology while Suhasini held her hands in between hers and broke them apart as she spoke,

" Sumitra Behen, I am sure it is Khushi's fault as she has never been able to win Rahul Bitua's heart and Jawan Ladka Hai, Josh Main Aa Gaya Hoga. We shouldn't take this decision in such a hurry." Suhasini's words made Khushi so enraged that her thoughts were destroying every breakable thing in the house mentally as she balled up her palms firmly in order to control herself knowing that her mother would literally torture her, if she opened her mouth in front of Sumitra.

" I am sorry to disagree, Suhasini but isn't that wrong on Rahul's part to forget that he is engaged and is going to be married soon and indulge in all these activities. I am sorry but this alliance cannot go ahead." Sumitra's firm tone and not addressing Suhasini as 'Behen' showed that she was serious about her words, while Sumitra continued,

" I am sure that for Khushi Bitiya who is a gem of a girl, there are many more alliances waiting and I will pray to god that Khushi Bitiya will find her match made in heaven."

'Heaven', isn't it there that marriages are made. Khushi didn't know if it was an act or not, she didn't it was real or fake but all she knew what that, her heart had accepted that marriage and she had allowed it that adamant heart of hers to beat for her best friend.

" Before leaving, I also want to say sorry to you, Khushi Bitiya. I know you must be feeling very bad for all this but please try to move on from this because my son doesn't deserve anything of yours, Beta. Not even your hatred or pain. So don't waste your tears for my Nalayak and Nikamma Son." Sumitra patted Khushi's head affectionately while Khushi smiled lightly while nodding her head in an affirmative manner very gently so that her mom wouldn't see it but Sumitra could see it.

Ignoring Suhasini's calls to her, Sumitra walked out of Gupta Mansion and asked the driver to leave from there, while Khushi was unable to believe on which way her thoughts should go. To be happy that she will not become of Rahul or to be sad that she might never become of Arnav too.

Jerking her out of her thoughts, Suhasini held Khushi's hand and pulled sidewards much to her shock as she scarily spoke,

" How many times did I tell you that impress your would-be-husband, and fulfill every demand of his? If it would have happened, today this wouldn't have happened. This is all due to your stupid thoughts and the influence of Delhi."

" Mumma, you know what you are saying right? You wanted me to SEDUCE him, which I would never do. I have my self-respect to take care of and I would not give myself to any Rahul placed on a platter to enjoy me. And believe me, I don't have any regrets that this alliance broke before it was too late. In fact I am happy that it broke and revealed the real face of that Rahul Kapoor. But sadly you are not able to see that, which i cannot really help. I will take your leave now because there are more important things for me to do than lamenting that a stupid alliance broke." Khushi pulled her hand from her mother's grip and walked out of the house, sat in her car and drove away.

" I cannot let this alliance break, I will speak to Mahesh Bhai Saheb and Sumitra Behen once again about this." Suhasini decided as she went inside her room to get dressed up to leave for their house. For her, once rejected girl will never be accepted by the society and for her, Rahul was the gem which only a few could see.

Now what will happen to Arnav's and Khushi's love story, now that Rahul, the third wheel has been removed?

NOTE: There are two different Sumitras in this story. One is Sudhakar's another wife and hence Khushi's step mother and the other is Rahul's mother and Khushi's ex-mother-in-law. Sumitra means a good friend, so I wanted both of them to have that name.
