Mirrors

"Her blood pressure got too high. I've injected the medicine, she will be okay in a bit of time," the doctor told Arnav, getting up from the bed after giving an injection to Khushi. Khushi had fainted some time ago and Arnav had immediately called the doctor, stressing to vanish off the mere thought of the pregnancy.

"Thanks," Arnav smiled meekly at the lady before him, "Doc is she.. I mean.. is she..?"

"No, she isn't pregnant," the doctor spoke, nodding her head in an understanding nod. She had herself told Arnav to get Khushi's pregnancy test done, for there were chances of the same; hence she understood his stress and took the initiative of releasing his tension.

Arnav, on the other hand, heaved a sigh of relief. He was amazed by his own reactions at times. More than Khushi herself, he would have been the one who would be affected more by the unwanted news. It could obviously had intensified the depression in their lives, but more than that, it could have made Khushi scared of the cruel society. He felt amazingly relieved at the moment, his frown getting erased in a minute as he looked at the sleeping form of the angel in her bed.

He helped the doctor out after she told him about the things which Khushi should eat and what she shouldn't.

He came back to the room where Khushi was asleep. Sitting on the floor beside her, he looked at her. Anyone who would have watched him would have clearly noticed the love and concern he held for this lady in front of him. His eyes screamed the content of his heart.

Gulping a few times, he delicately picked up a loose hair strand sprawled on her face and tucked it behind her ear. Drowning in her beauty, he gently pressed his lips over her forehead, ending into the softest of kisses. His lips formed into a faint smile as he got up from the floor and went out to the poolside.

Khushi woke up as she felt her throat going dry. She opened her eyes to reveal darkness in her room, except for the small lamp lit on the bed side. She looked at the small clock kept on the side table, which showed half past one. Struggling to get up, she lifted herself on her elbows and looked around the room. She noticed a silhouette of a man sleeping on the recliner and got off the bed.

"Arnavji?" She called out for him, bending a little in front of him.

"Hunh hmm?" He hummed in deep sleep, raising his eyebrows without opening his eyes.

"Arnavji, why are you sleeping here on the recliner?" She asked in her soft voice, not being able to wake him up from his deep slumber.

Supposing him to be in deep sleep, she decided to let him stay on the recliner itself. She fetched an extra blanket from the cupboard and covered him with it, and he immediately snuggled into the softness of the blanket.

She walked back to the bedside and drank the whole content of the glass of water placed on the bedside. Keeping the side-lamp switched on, she slipped into the covers and dozed off to sleep.

Arnav was the second one to wake up the next morning. He checked the time, which was quite late than his usual waking-up time. He surveyed the room with his still sleepy eyes and found it tidied up, with no trace of Khushi in the room.

He freshened himself and took a bath, before heading out of the room to search for Khushi.

"Good morning!" He greeted her brightly as he saw her in the kitchen, moving a wooden spatula in round movements to mix the batter in the bowl.

"Good morning!" She smiled back, continuing to move the spatula.

"That smells nice," he moved forward and sniffed in the bowl, "Is that for chocolate cake?"

Khushi smiled more and nodded positively, "You said na that Mish will be coming here on Sunday? You are going to get her here today, right?"

His heart melted at the sight of her innocent expression and almost involuntarily, he shook his head in a yes, break into a wide grin.

"Thank you" she cooed, her eyes shining with happiness.

Arnav smiled at her and turned to leave the kitchen, before he stopped and turned back, "Did you eat anything?"

"No, I was waiting for you," she replied and walked sideways to the basin to wash her hands.

"Come, let's have breakfast first and then you can continue with your cake," he grinned and moved out of the kitchen and she followed him, telling the servant to serve them the breakfast.

The breakfast went through almost silently. After the breakfast, Arnav left for Raizada Mansion to get Mish to the farmhouse. More than seeing Mish happy over the cake that Khushi would make, he was excited to see Khushi laugh once again. It gave him the most beautiful kind of happiness!

"Jao fatafat get ready," Arnav pinched Mish's cheeks, patting her back while she excitedly hopped away to her room. She was way too elated by her mamu's invitation to meet her Khushi auntie again.

"Arnav?" He heard his sister's voice from her room while he was going down to the living room, "You're here?"

"Yeah, di" he turned and walked inside Anjali's room.

Anjali sat on one corner of her bed, going through some list of items that had to be bought for the kitchen. She kept the list aside and looked at Arnav, who was smiling to himself.

She narrowed her eyes and broke into a chuckle, "What makes you smile?"

Arnav blinked his eyes as if he was brought out of a trance. He cleared his throat and spoke, "Nothing Di."

Anjali got up from the bed and came near Arnav. She felt good to see her brother so happy after so many years. Though she wanted that nothing affects his state of happiness ever, yet she didn't liked the fact that his happiness was because of her.

"Accha Di, I am taking Mish out for sometime," Arnav told her, not wanting her to start off with her inquiries.

Her saw shaking her head in affirmation and turned to leave the room to check if Mish was ready.

"Arnav, umm," Anjali stopped him from going out of her room, "Lavanya came today.."

Arnav turned back, his eyebrows twitching on hearing the name before a countenance of anger took over his happier one.

"Di how many times do I have to tell you to not to keep any relation with that girl? Why don't you get this clear once?" He spoke in a raised voice, turning back completely to look at his sister.

"Arnav, she is my friend. Plus, you have to get married some day!" Anjali said, fed up of her brother being too stubborn.

"Di, I already said this and I am saying this again, I will not marry Lavanya!" Arnav spoke in end-of-topic tone, turning again to leave the room.

"Will you marry that used girl?" came a voice from his behind, making him stop in his tracks.

"DI?!" His voice grew louder, his eyes widening with digust over the kind of language his sister used for Khushi.

"Did I say something wrong?" Anjali asked him, ready for any confrontation.

"Stop it Di. Please just stop it!" He said in anger, not believing what kind of mentality his Di had; a mentality which is owned by the society who just has the work of discouraging people and make their already messed up lives worse, "And its my life and I will decide whom will I marry!"

"You will speak in this tone with your Di for that roadside --" Anjali screamed in fury, knitting her eyebrows together in shock.

"STOP IT! Not a word against Khushi now!" Arnav yelled and strode out the room, only to be stopped by a crying form of Mish, clutching her small purse close to her chest, standing at the entrance of the door.

"Ma..ma..mamu?" She stammered, tears streaming down her chubby cheeks and her eyes blood red.

"Not today Mish," He spoke coldly and went out of the room, straightaway out of the Raizada Mansion.

Anjali fell on the bed with a thud, her head falling in her palms as she cried hard, while Mish ran to her after screaming at the retreating form of Arnav. She didn't understand what her mother and her mamu were talking about, but she was upset with the way Arnav behaved with her. Her mamu had never talked rudely with her, no matter what.

Khushi placed the icing cream back in the refrigerator and walked back to the kitchen shelf to have a look at the cake. It had been months together since she had tried baking. She had learnt to bake cakes while she was in college, but never really got a chance to practice. She got reminded of the appreciation she received from her batch mates when they tasted her cake in the college. Cooking had always been something that she loved doing ever since childhood. She didn't had her mother to teach her, but her father did help her in whatever she wanted to learn.

She smiled warmly, anticipating Mish's reaction on seeing the cake.

The ring of the door bell brought her back and she ran out of the kitchen. She opened the door, only to reveal Arnav. His shoulders were hunched down and a defeated look took over his face. His eyes mirrored her emotions, the similar kind of pain and dejection showcased in those caramel pools.

"What happened?" She softly asked, letting him enter inside. She closed the door walked behind him.

He fell on the couch and leaned his head back, "I have messed up everything..."

Khushi stood at a distance, looking at his vulnerable form. He wasn't the same Arnav whom she considered as her strength, rather he was someone who was been attacked by the cruelty of life, just like her. She didn't knew what had happened, but all she wanted at this time was to comfort him, just like he did to her.

The very next minute, he felt amazingly cold fingers pressing against his scalp, brushing his hair in the most soothing way possible. The coldness of her fingers neutralized the heat in his head formed due to anger and frustration. His eyes closed slowly, as he started to enter back into peace after all the chaos caused a while ago.

She continued to move her fingers in his hair, massaging his head to release his tension.

"Khushii" he softly whimpered, pushing his head into her fingers more.

"Shh" she murmured, blowing air over his tensed muscles, feeling them relax under her fingers.

Don't be surprised! I'm really here with my comment! Even after losing first spot and page!

Firstly, i noticed something today! Its that, i love the titles of your updates! So catchy!

Update is really good!
Best part is that Khushi isn't pregnant! Bcoz i want to see Khushi pregnant with Arnav's child! Bas!
Arnav's thoughts about this issue were beautifully written! His relief after knowing, his care towards her

And then Khushi baking a cake for hamari cutie Mish... Aww:*

Anjali..Anjali! Oh god! She is being insensitive! Voh Khushi ke baare mein kuch nahi janti and still she is saying such shit! How can she judge her like this?
And she was crying? Kis liye? Like seriously! She is hurting others!

Amidst all this, Mish was treated badly 😭

I'm loving the fact that both are becoming each other's strength! Helping each other in need!
