Payal,
Fabulous post! Loved the apt title for apni punjabi kudi Preet ! For a layered character like Rizwan, who struggles with so many complexities and confusions of personality, we have one strong, steady and assertive lady love. As confused Rizwan is, Preet is as steady minded and clear in her feelings and thoughts. Between the two, Preet is hands down the stronger person, mentally and emotionally. Despite her horrible horrible past, she has moved on positively and with all the right intentions. She gets nightmares and still has recollections of that tragic night, but she also knows how to block it out of her memory as to not affect her present. Someone with that memory, would be a broken, damaged person, but Preet has managed to successfully take the second chance life has offered her and without any regrets in her heart, moved on.
Today, she proved that a woman in love doesn't need to be all forgiving and let her heart take over her mind. Her no-nonsense way of telling Ishan to shut up and stop being so petty in his thinking, was applaud worthy. Many women tend to become doormats in love, and let their self-respect be trampled upon every time the man is angry and/or drinking. This is even more often in EK shows, especially one special one where the man starts a tirade against his wife EVERY SINGLE time something goes wrong and he blames her for it. And his wife, otherwise a successful, independent strong woman, takes his nonsense and cries her buckets and forgives him when he says sorry next day. UGh, I got sick of it. But, Preet was a breath of fresh air today and proved what real, honest, and healthy relationships are like. You have to straighten out your man if he;s drunk and talking nonsense. Nor did she over do it by yapping mean stuff back at him, nor did she do melodramatic crying and acting all abla naari. She simply gave him back what he deserved, a sense of shame at what he said. Saari daru utar gayi Rizwan ki :P š
I like what they show from the precap too. An honest conversation between them, instead of no talking for 2-3 days, and then sorry and flowers and all forgotten. Preet is seen addressing the issue between them head on and in no uncertain terms telling him that he is the one who has created boundaries between them, she doesn't have any with him. Rizwan, is dumbstruck and has no answer to her statement. Preet is what women should be like, not just trying to be all perfect bahu and wife kind, but also independent, strong and have a voice that can be heard loud and clear when need arises. And I love the honesty that she brings to her relationship with Rizwan. As dishonest as he is, she is just as honest, sharing her past, sharing her insecurities, sharing her true feelings about him and their future together, without shying away from pertinent questions. Love her and Mona is such a delight to watch. As OTT she was in Jassi, she is just as restrained and on point in her character here, and I don't think anyone could have done a better job. She looks stunning, not to mention. And Iqbal and her have a nautral raw chemistry that suits the kind of mature love story theirs is. <3
