It's a rating system to see how popular a show is. I personally don't know much more about it than that as we don't have TRPs here. Unfortunately TRPs seem to determine alot about whether shows should be axed or not, or when CVs decide to add twist/turns to the show that do nothing for the original concept of the show and are done just to garner more TRPs...

Here's a blurb from India Times about it (link below should you want more info, I haven't read it though😉).

"Television Rating Point (TRP) is a tool provided to judge which programmes are viewed the most."
