Chapter 17

"You found anything?" Karan asked.

"His name is Sushant, heard of the name?"

"the big time drugdealer?"

"Exactly."

"No way?! How come he ended up like that? I mean he was so powerful, how could you tell it's him?"

"You can't forget our last encounter, now can you?, that is one face we can't forget."

"Yeah, I also can't forget that arrogant bas***d's face, he was one of those I desperately wanted to see behind bars but after that night we never had any encounter."

"Because his underlings were executing his plans not him."

"Really?! How did we miss that?"

"Coz those bas***ds never showed that they were underlings."

"Geez, it's getting more complicated. So this mystery guy killed Sushant and put the body in Niranjan's house to set him up."

"I don't think it's just set up, you think, why would anyone think of brutally killing a hightime drugdealer and leave it in his house, if he wanted to set him up he would've easily killed any random person and leave it in his house but why Sushant and no one else? and why such torture?" Vikram hinted.

"Unless there is some relation between Sushant and Niranjan, you think this mysterious guy telling us something?"

"Well, that's how I could interpret this. Niranjan was fired up and wanted to take back his case. Normally any person would want to know why or who this mystery person is, he would be terrified but Niranjan is always, I don't know nervous and always trying to keep some information."

"I feel that too, he always confuse me, his answers are always vague, as if he is holding some information. I guess we should keep a keen eye on him, check his records and everything."

"Before you saying I already did them and you'll be surprised to see what I found."

"Wow! That was fast, didn't expect that from you." Karan said teasingly.

"Whatever."

Vikram held out a piece of paper and placed it in front of him.

"If you look at his bank details, he make deposit on this account every month and if you notice the amount is very high."

"And?"

"And I went to check out the owner of account, it is named under Rita Sharma, since the bank don't give personal details, it took me time to get the address, so I went there and found out that this woman is wife of Sushant, moreover, he lives as another identity, as Ajay Sharma, an registered owner of bar and club, no wonder we couldn't find him."

Karan went silent for a moment and spoke in a low and furious tone "I can't believe we neglected many things, this mystery guy is much better than us! No wonder we are called incompetents because we are."

"Come on now, don't say like that, just because this mystery guy solved one case doesn't mean he's better than us, well he didn't call me and told me that Sushant is living as Ajay or he had a wife."

Karan smiled and replied "You're right. It's just that I've been feeling low ever since Niranjan called my lads incompetent, I feel there's something lacking in me."

"Let him say what he wants and the reason he called us incompetent because he doesn't want us to investigate. And besides, there are no case we as a team didn't solved, he came to you because you have no unsolved cases, it means you are competent, just when did you start believing those bas***ds?"

He sighed and replied "You're right if I turned weak, I won't be able to make my team strong. For now, we need more evidence because this evidence is not enough, Niranjan could say that Sushant had been threatening him and was asking for protection money, it's common in corporate world."

"Yeah but atleast we got some lead." Vikram said with a grin.

"Is it my feeling or you're asking for some compliments?" Karan asked with a teasing grin.

Vikram raised his brow and replied "I am not asking for your compliments because I know I'm the best you could get."

Karan chuckled while Vikram grinned.

"How are you feeling now?" Astha asked as she sat beside his bended knees and lightly placed her hand on his knee.

Shlok jerked at her voice and looked up as he removed his hands from his throbbing head, he rested his back against the pillow, his legs curled in front of him and his elbows resting on his crouched knees.

He smiled faintly and replied "Much better."

"How much did you drink last night?"

"I can't remember, all I could remember is I brought the whole case with me and kept drinking until I just fell asleep."

She went silent for few moments then reluctantly asked "You..wanna talk about it?"

He gave her a long look before he looked away and replied "I guess I don't wanna talk about it.." he paused and continued "don't wanna think about it at all."

She nodded with a gentle smile.

"I understand." She said softly then sternly added "Just go easy next time, look how sick you got."

"I promise I wouldn't get drunk like this." He said with a grin.

"Mommy! Mommy!" Avdhoot shouted excitedly as he rushed inside the room.

"Avi! I told you to tone down your voice, you know someone is sick here."

Avdhoot bit his tongue and childishly apologized.

"It's ok, buddy, you can make all the noise you want, let your mommy say whatever she want." Shlok said with a gentle smile.

"Shlok! Don't spoil him, he's already spoiled by his grandpa." then added with a grin "and me."

"Are you ok now?" Avdhoot asked as he climbed the bed and sat beside Astha.

"Much better, just a little headache but it will go away too."

"You want me to massage? Mommy say I have magic in my hands, her headache always go away." Avdhoot said proudly as he brought up his hand.

"I think I would like that."

"I will bring balm." Avdhoot said in a jubilant smile then hopped off the bed and ran outside the room.

"He's not at all spoiled but a very nice kid." Shlok said with his eyes following Avdhoot.

"Because you don't know him yet, he's been spoiled by almost everyone but yeah, he is very nice kid just like his mom." She replied.

"Ah man, my head is exploding." Shlok said with dramatic moan and held his head. Astha hit him on his knees while he chuckled.

"By the way, I can make some excuse if you don't want Avi to mass---"

He met her gaze and asked "Who said I don't want a massage?"

"That's not what I meant, Avi is a kid and you know they are not massage therapist, so I---"

"It matters not. He was generous enough to help me and I'm sure his massage will help because according to his mommy he have magic in hands." Shlok replied.

She smiled and spoke softly "Thank you."

"For what?" Shlok asked.

"For many reasons I can't tell."

Shlok placed his hand on top of her own and came forward then spoke in a gentle tone "I don't know what made you say thank you so all I could say is you can always count on me."

She studied him with a long silent look, as much as she try not to get affected by his words but it always melt her heart, overwhelmed with emotions she bent forward and placed a peck on his cheek.

"You're wife will be the luckiest person in this world, Shlok." She said as she backed away.

"Consider yourself the luckiest then." He replied with a grin.

"I wish I could." She replied with a faint sad smile and pulled back her hand.

Shlok opened his mouth to speak but went silent at the sound of Avdhoot entering the room.

Astha turned her eyes on Avdhoot and spoke as she got up and walked towards Avdhoot "I'll leave both of you, I have some work to do. Champ, don't be naughty ha, let him take rest."

"I'm not naughty, I'm a good boy." Avdhoot said defensively.

She pulled his cute cheek lightly as she replied with a grin "I know how good you are."

Avdhoot rubbed his cheek with a pout as he watched his mother left the room.

"Ah, it feels so good." Shlok murmured as he savored the touch of his little gentle hands, soothing the pain in his head which was resting on the thighs of the little kid. He may not be able to remove the pain but at least he made it somewhat bearable for him.

"I'm sorry for ruining your trip today, you must've been too excited." Shlok apologized as he looked up at him.

Avdhoot looked down and replied with a grin "It's ok, we will go tomorrow." .

"Oh, that's nice to hear, I was feeling very guilty, where are you going anyway?"

"We are going ashore, we will have so much fun, we play many things! and we swim and we do horseriding!"

Shlok could feel the beam of excitement in his voice, poor kid, his guilty worsen as he realized that he have to wait another day.

"That's great! What's your favourite game in there?"

"I like volleyball but I always don't get score, all of them are so big but then Uncle Veer or Uncle Abhay lift me and I get some score but still I want to score without any help."

"If you want to score by yourself, you have to play with boys same as yours, don't you have any buddy here?"

He shaked his head "I don't live here, I live with Grandpa, I come here for vacations only."

Just like him, his own house was like vacation spot for him, but at least he have his grandpa but for him there was no one, Shlok thought in his mind.

"That's why you don't get any buddies because you want to spend time with your mommy."

"Yes."

"Let's say I become your buddy,would you make me your buddy?"

Avdhoot stopped in his strokes and asked excitedly "You want to become my buddy?"

"Of course, don't you?"

Suddenly his jubilant smile faded then he spoke in a soft, sad tone "I want to but you will go too, to your home."

What home? Does he have any home to call? If he has, where is it?

Shlok smiled and replied "I can come for you, just call me anytime then I'll come."

"Really?! Will you do that for me?" He asked with hope in his voice.

"Of course buddy, are we buddies now?" Shlok said and held up his hand, Avdhoot squealed in glee and wrapped his small hand in his large ones.

"Now we are buddies and we'll call each other buddy, ok?"

He bobbed his head then said "Why don't you come with us tomorrow."

"Me? No, it is your family tri---"

"Everyone is coming, you can come too, I will tell mommy."

"Come on, buddy I can't."

Avdhoot pouted his lips then said "I thought you will come anytime I call you."

"Now that is blackmail, fine I will come but only if your mommy agrees."

"She will agree." He said with a confident smile.

Shlok observed him as they talked about random things, the kid was more of like Sid was in his younger years than Astha, perhaps because he is a boy but in terms of image, he is a replica of Astha, same shiny gold eyes and raven black hair, there are only few traces of his biological father, talking about his father, did he ever asked about his father from Astha, he would have if he didn't have a clue about who his father is, does he even know his mother is a criminal, he wonder.

"Do you want me to stop now?" Shlok heard him say.

"Oh yeah, thanks buddy." Shlok said as he sat up.

Avdhoot climbed down the bed and said " You take rest buddy so when we go tomorrow you won't be sick."

"Ok, doc. What about you? What are you gonna do?" Shlok asked.

"I will help mommy. See ya."

"See ya, buddy."

Shlok thought he was mistaken, thought it is a dream since he was half asleep, but now he is wide awake yet he kept his eyes closed, he could clearly hear muffled sounds with sob. Is it Astha? he asked himself, he remembered the last time she slept beside him, she was crying that time too, it had to be her. Suddenly a voice interrupted his thoughts, speaking in consoling whispers, his heart twisted as he heard the same words over and over again.

"Mommy, don't cry, I am here with you, I will protect you." Avdhoot spoke in comfort as he rubbed his palms against her cheeks, wiping the tears.

Astha sucked in her breath and flung open her eyes as she came out of her nightmare and back into the reality. She flickered her lashes then a frown creased her forehead as she looked at Avdhoot sitting in front of her. She sighed as she realized the reason, she shouldn't be surprised as it happens every night, no matter what she does, she couldn't stop those nightmares.

"Did I wake you again?" Astha asked with a faint smile.

Avdhoot rested his head on top of her bosom, relieved to see her smile, she automatically wrapped her arms around his small body.

"I don't mind you waking me up." He replied softly as he tightened his hug.

"I'm sorry, baby. I know you're worried about me but I'm fine." She said and caressed his head.

He looked up and said "I know you're not, you lie, you cry every night."

"You're mommy is a crying baby, she can't help it, but it doesn't mean she isn't fine, she is strong."

"I know you are strong but I don't want you sad, I want you to be happy always."

"I am always happy because I have a son like you, you are my happiness. I will be sad when you won't be there with me."

"I will never leave you, I promise."

"I know you will never leave me, but even if we do get separated, you know we will still be with each other."

"Just like you say, I will always be your flashlight and you will be mine, right?"

"Yes always remember the special song of your Avdhoot grandpa when you're alone, because that song helped your mommy a lot."

"I always do, mommy, can you sing it for me, I like it when you sing."

"Why don't we sing together? But let's keep our voice low so Shlok will not get disturbed."

He bobbed his head with a grin.

"1, 2, 3.."

"I love you, baby." Astha said as she squeezed him and planted a kiss on his hair.

"I love you too, mommy."

Silent tears fell from Shlok's eyes as he witnessed their pure love, love between a child and his parent, he wished he had a parent like her, he craved for such love since he was a kid. He always thought he had the best parent anyone could get, he got everything he wanted from his father but he never got the thing he most needed, love and warmth of his parent, although he had a parent but he always was an orphan, always alone.

Astha looked sideways, thanking the lord that Shlok didn't woke from their noise, she wasn't even expecting him to wake because the medicine she gave him tend to make people sleepy and he had been sleeping ever since Avdhoot gave him a massage, that is the reason she agreed to Avdhoot's request to sleep with them, she doesn't want him to see her like this, it will only depress him. She placed asleep Avdhoot back in his place, in between her and Shlok, she brushed her fingers on his hair with a smile.

"I'm sorry for being your mother. I wish I could change my past, wish I could give you a father, wish you could sleep the night peacefully without worrying about me, without hearing your mother cry but it is not in my hand. I'm sorry for being a burden at you." She whispered softly and planted a peck on his forehead.

Her eyes fell on Shlok, how easily he became a buddy of her son, Avdhoot told her everything when he came to her, she wished they were a family, she wished he was his father but her wishes will remain wishes.

The two people she love the most in her life has been hurt the most by her, she can't look into their eyes without guilt in her heart.

"I wish I could change everything for you and be with you forever but I can't, that is what hurts me. I'm sorry for hurting you, Shlok. I hope you could forgive me one day."

"I know you're not hearing this which is good because I wouldn't be able to tell you this but I wanted to tell you how special you are to me, I still think of the kiss we shared, the moments we had, I..I love you and will keep loving you till my last breath."

After few moments, she sighed as she brushed away her tears and lied down on her place then drifted back into sleep.

Shlok was in a state of euphoria, as soon as he heard her say those three words he longed to hear, he thought he would never hear them since he thought she was dead, but even then he still waited during those years, now his wait was finally ended, he felt like a big burden had been lifted off his heart, oh! he could scream with joy.

She might say that they can't be together but one day she will proclaim her love for him and they would be together, he will make her and her son his family, that day will definitely come.

karan-vikram dialogue...was just wonderful👏👏... karan confused hw sushant landed up in NIrubaba's house.. wat does that mean... but vikram enlightens d possibilities abt y he may b put in that condition there.. may b sum connection.. he also shows sum hidden evidence to put doubt on nirubaba .. finally karan gets it & realises that may b sushant i connected to niranjan coz after seeing d dead body niranjan decided to close his security case... though claiming karan's men as incapable but may b he was frightened that now he wil b in trouble... finally karan gets motivated as he was upset after niru's comment abt his men.. & now starts for investigation as they need more proof to interrogate & bring out niru's truth ...

astha want takes care of shlok... they convo though short was so nice... avdoot asks if can massage shlok's head as he is not well.. shlok agrees for it.. so sweet... avdoot befrnds shlok & they hv a ncie time... shlok feels nice with him as wen he was a child he had missed this small family time pleasures as his dad had no time for him & he was sent to hostel often... avi & shlok calling each other buddy😳 ... whole scene of avdoot-shlok was superb well written👏👏 best part of d update...

astha again having nightmare.. poor soul.. feel so bad for her... loved hw avi stood by her & consoled her & gives her strength... but astha knows in her heart that she is a criminal & one day or other she would b behind bars & had to live avi forever.. loved d special song they sang conforting each other... she is disturbed in her mind & upset due to her past...

astha thinks shlok is asleep & confesses her love for him.. but unknown to her shlok is awake but pretending to be asleep & hears her confession... shlok's happiness knew no bounds wen he heard d confession but he couldnt enjoy d moment...
