Rishi on a mannat spree!
Rishi has seen enough of life to know what lies ahead for a debutant actor no matter who he is launched by, Raj Kapoor (as Rishi himself was in Bobby 36 years ago) or Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
Never a demonstrative father, Rishi Kapoor is on tenterhooks about the forthcoming release of his son Ranbir's film.
He won't attend the premiere of Saawariya because he's shooting in Himachal. "Which is a blessing in a way," sighs Ranbir, "because Dad gets so tense, I'd have been a nervous wreck just watching him. But he's taking time off to visit all the gurdwaras and temples in and around Himachal. In one temple, a priest came up to Dad and said, 'I know your son is about to start his career. Take this with Devi Maa's blessing,' and he gave Dad a chunni as an auspicious token. It was a touching gesture, and one that I'll cherish forever."
Meanwhile, Rishi is busy playing himself in Hadd Behadd for which he is currently shooting. Not too many actors get that privilege. Dharmendra did it many decades ago in Guddi . Bobby Deol did it more recently in Nanhe Jaisalmer . Now it's Rishi's turn.
"It's a super social comedy and I've a great role, I play myself, Rishi Kapoor. Really, at my age, I couldn't have asked for a better role," the actor chortled in delight. The film is directed by theatre personality Ranjit Kapoor who wrote films like Mangal Pandey and Bandit Queen . This is his first film as director.
