Vaibhavi Merchant's musical 'Merchants of Bollywood'
Acclaimed choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant will be announcing the launch of the 4th tour of her dance extravaganza, 'The Merchants of Bollywood' on Saturday 13th of October 2007 at 4:00 PM at Yash Raj Studios. Her traveling Bollywood musical will be seen across the world for the next nine months, in Germany, Switzerland, Netherlands, Austria, London, Dubai, Turkey, Singapore, Malaysia and South Africa from November 2007.
Vaibhavi Merchant has choreographed the international hit musical, 'The Merchants of Bollywood', which is loosely based on her own life. A colorful and dramatic musical tale, it follows the story of a young woman who rebels against her father, a classical Indian dancer, to follow her dream and make a name for herself in Bollywood.
'The Merchants of Bollywood' has already successfully toured through Australia, New Zealand, UK and the United States in the last four years, internationally touted as the "first authentic musical from Bollywood City". 'The Merchants of Bollywood' brings alive the romance and drama of Indian films, with a burst of color and larger-than-life experience of the music and famous stars from our legendary industry. It pays tribute to music from grand Indian films through time, touching upon old greats like DILWALE DULHANIYA LE JAYENGE while also adding a contemporary flavor with sounds from DUS and DHOOM. The musical has been directed by British writer and director Toby Gough and showcases composition by music director-duo Salim and Sulaiman.
Vaibhavi Merchant's choreography has won her several accolades, where her most famous work includes the 2006 mega hit 'Kajra Re' from BUNTY AUR BABLI as well as choreography for super hits like JHOOM BARABAR JHOOM, DEVDAS, UMRAO JAAN, DHOOM, FANAA, RANG DE BASANTI and LAGAAN.
Vaibhavi Merchant, music director-duo Salim-Sulaiman and the play director Toby Gough will be personally present at Yash Raj Studios on Saturday 13th at 4:00 PM to talk about the journey of 'The Merchants of Bollywood' and to make an official announcement of the tour. There will also be a special performance by members of the musical play's dance troupe for the media present to get a glimpse of the magic that 'The Merchants of Bollywood' is about to unleash upon its audiences!
