And it seems to be the story of our lives
"Thanks... You literally saved me from that boring high society get together... Though the way was silly and pathetic..." said abeer walking out of the house.
Meher quietly walked beside him, hoping the small walk never ends.
"Thanks for coming abeer..."
Abeer smiled and pressed the elevator button. Meher entered after him in the elevator.
"Where is she staying...??" Meher asked looking at her feet.
"Who..??"
"That ati... Noo.. What was her name..??" Meher fumbled.
"Niyati..." Abeer told meher.
"Ohh ya... So where is she putting up..??" Meher asked looking at abeer now.
"Malhotra mansion..." Abeer replied and looked away.
"Ohh..." Meher whispered with discontent.
The elevator reached the ground floor and abeer was almost ready to run to his car when meher held his hand.
"I want to meet her..." Meher said as a matter of fact.
"I was thinking of the same... You can meet her when we leave for goa..." Abeer replied awkwardly.
Meher's eyes widened with confusion.
"I can't leave her in Mumbai... She will come with me..."
"Goodnight Abeer..." Meher sighed and walked away from abeer.
Abeer looked at meher and wondered if things didn't change and if he could console her. But things have changed and his priorities have changed too. He can't run behind meher consoling her and in the process leaving niyati behind. This time it happened unintentionally but not again. He can't do this to the girl who has been his everything from the past two years. The girl who has been giving him her everything. The girl who is his, without any commitment.
Abeer hurriedly drove to the venue and found that the party was almost to end. And then the after party might start. He drove home mentally preparing himself to face whatever comes his way. Abeer entered the house to see kuber sitting near the bar and glaring at him.
"Dad it was some emergency... I had to leave... I'm sorry I missed it..." Abeer apologised.
"Its OK Abeer... We have a recording, you can see it later... Apologise to niyati. You left her hanging in the party..." said kuber.
Abeer nodded his head and ran upstairs. He stood outside the room and took a deep breath. He had to lie to niyati because telling the truth will create more problems at that moment. If it was any other time, he would have told her the truth and she would have understood. Abeer opened the door and saw niyati sitting on the floor with her mobile in her hands. Niyati looked at him as he took a step towards her and then she looked at her mobile screen. It strangely irritated abeer when niyati focused all her attention on that lifeless mobile instead of him. Abeer quietly sat beside niyati on the floor and crossed his legs. He looked at the mobile screen and sighed when he saw it was just a game that she was playing. It kind of calmed him down. In fraction of seconds, he assumed that it might be some another guy she is probably interested in. She can get anyone... Can't she...?? She is young, bubbly, chirpy, interesting and very beautiful. And unmarried. Not a divorce like him.
"I'm sorry..." Abeer whispered trying to break the ice.
"Uncle was disappointed..." came the subtle reply.
"Niyu I wanted to be there... I apologise... It will never happen again..." Abeer apologised.
"But you got angry on me... That's why you left..."
A tear rolled down her eyes and it broke abeer's heart. Poor girl... She was upset thinking he left because of her.
"Its not you niyu... I was not angry on you... The man saw you with lust in his eyes... I can't take it... And I didn't leave because of you..."
"Sachi...??" Niyati asked wiping her tears.
"Muchi..." Abeer replied touching the corner of her lips and she smiled as a result.
"And I don't want you to shed a tear again... I hate when you cry..." Abeer said side hugging niyati.
Niyati cuddled close and wrapped her arms around him.
"I love you..."
"I love you too..." Abeer said and kissed the top of her head.
"You know abeer... Uncle took the award from my hands... Isn't it too sweet...?? But I know you weren't there, so he called me on the stage instead..." Niyati said looking at abeer.
Abeer couldn't help but grin at her statement or rather her innocence.
"Why are you smiling...?? I'm not joking..." said niyati.
"You are not joking but you are not understanding something... Dad would have called you on the stage on matter what... If I were there, then it would have been us..." Abeer replied pushing away a strand of hair falling on her face; blocking the beautiful view.
"But why me...??"
"That's for you to find out..." Abeer smirked.
Niyati shifted close to abeer and stayed in his arms; listening to his rhthymic beating of his heart.
"What was the emergency...??" Niyati asked playing with the button of abeer's shirt.
"Forget about it na... Tell me how are you liking it here..." Abeer changed the topic.
"Its good... And change is always good. But I want to ask you something..."
"Hmm..."
"Is it the same room...??" Niyati asked cautiously.
Abeer broke the hug and looked around the room. His old bedroom. The room that witnessed his married life and every moment he spent with meher.
"You don't have to answer it..." Niyati said keeping her hand on abeer's shoulder.
"Yes it is... I didn't realise it before... I donno how i didnt notice it... Niyati you can always shift into another bedroom you know..." Abeer told niyati.
"I'm fine here... I like it... Its your old bedroom... I just heard one of the servants talking something about the room... So I asked..." replied niyati.
"Its OK... Now let's catch some sleep..."
"Yeah... I can't compromise with my beauty sleep... Good night..." Niyati got up from the floor.
"Goodnight..."
Meher was sitting in her room and she couldn't help but get jealous. Abeer was living with his supposedly girlfriend in his house and everyone was fine with it. She wondered when had the Malhotras become that liberal. They had problem with every little thing when abeer and she got married. Only because of them, they shifted out in a place of theirs. If they would have been supporting, their marriage wouldn't have failed. The cruelties of life wouldn't have separated them at least. They would have learned with time and might have been happily married by now. They would have been a family. A happy family. Her baby would have survived. They would have been proud parents of a 9 years old by now. Their life would have been perfect and magical. But it all had to happen.
"Why...?? Why...????"
Meher kept asking herself that question all night but got no reply. Her question remained unanswered.
Meher entered her cabin after checking the recording studio; which was empty. She then logged in to the system and completed some of her pending work. She then called up the agent and made all the arrangements for their goa trip. Making a mental note to book one room extra for Ms. Niyati, no way she would let that girl share a room with her abeer. The next moment she regretted why did she plan this trip; now that her ex husband's girlfriend will be joining them.
"Bad luck Meher..." she whispered before immersing herself in files.
"We are going to goa... Woww..." Niyati exclaimed with excitement.
"You have seen better baby..." Abeer told niyati.
"See aunty... Now he can't see me excited..." Niyati told madhvi.
Madhvi smiled and lightly hit abeer's arm.
"Don't tease her..." she said.
"As you say mom... Ab main jaun office...??" asked abeer.
"Nooo... Let's go for shopping..." Niyati suggested.
"Take her na abeer..." said madhvi.
Abeer nodded his head and niyati jumped with happiness, hugging him. Abeer was happy on seeing madhvi developing liking towards niyati.
Abeer reached the office in the afternoon, dropping niyati at home. And before abeer could enter his recording studio, meher stopped him.
"Is this the time you come to office Mr. Malhotra..???"
"Sorry Ms. Purohit... I will come on time from tomorrow boss..."
"Hehe.. Fine..." said meher.
Abeer entered the studio and meher followed him.
"So did anything happen last night...??" Meher asked curiously.
"Ohh yeah... Kuber malhotra threatened to disown me if I miss any of his business parties from now on... Kare koi bhare koi..." Abeer replied leaned against a table.
"How ridiculous..." Meher commented.
"Waise now ATM has changed... He understood that i might not have missed the party intentionally... Basically our relationship has changed Meher..." Abeer confessed.
Meher could see how happy abeer was with the positive change in his equation with his dad. They have somehow mended their once bitter relationship.
"Hmm..." It was all meher could say.
"So all preparations done...??" Abeer asked.
"Ya... All set to leave tomorrow evening..."
"Greattt..."
They were to leave the next day when niyati made abeer agree on a road trip instead of going by air.
"Cmon... Don't be a spoilt sport... Let's go on a road trip... You me Sasha and nisaar... It will be fun... Pleaseee abeer... You werent this boring back in london... Call them now... Or I will do it..." Niyati said with her hands on her waist.
"OK lemme ask them... And there is nothing with me being lazy and boring..." Abeer said getting tired of niyati's constant bickering.
"What are they saying...??" Niyati whispered from behind.
Abeer put the phone on speaker and leaned back into the sofa. He knew from this point niyati will handle everything and she will convince him. She is sometimes stubborn; just like him.
"Cmon babe... Sasha it will super fun... U know that zindagi na milegi dobara thing... Kitna mja ayega..." Niyati told Sasha and Sasha immediately agreed.
"No guys... What is the use of this trip...??" Asked nisaar.
"Exactly my point..." said abeer.
"Nisaar... Please na... Maine kabhi kuch maanga hai kya tumse...?? Nahi na... Chalo na please... Abeer is really excited yaar, he is just not showing it..." said niyati.
"Yeah yeahh... I'm dying with excitement..." Abeer squealed and then shook his head tiredly.
"OK fine... Road trip it is..." said nisaar in order to irritate abeer.
"Thank you so much guys... See you tomorrow..."
Niyati disconnected the call and sat beside abeer.
"Why do you seem tired today...?? Have been working out on someone...??" Niyati asked smirking.
"I only work out on you... And the kind of work out you are talking about... Well it doesn't tire a person out..." Abeer told niyati pulling her towards him.
"Ohh... But work out aaj nahi... Now only in goa... On the beach..." Niyati kissed abeer cheek and got up to leave.
"Where are you up to...?? Sit with me..." Abeer said clutching on to niyati's wrist.
"Packing is a tough task my lover boy..." Niyati replied.
"And unwrapping... Well its very easy..." Abeer said pulling niyati back into him.
"I know..." Niyati said wrapping her arms around his neck.
Abeer pulled niyati towards him and dropped a kiss just below her ear lobe.
"Are you happy...??" Abeer asked.
"Hmm... Very.." She sighed and continued "but I miss him...".
"He misses you too... I'm sure of it..." Abeer told niyati.
"You think so..??"
"I know so..." replied abeer kissing the tip of her nose.
