Duggu as desi pirate

Hrithik Roshan's next may well see him playing a character on the lines of Jack Sparrow

Upala KBR

The rather picky Hrithik Roshan is soon building an interesting line-up of films. He plays a prince in Ashutosh Gowariker's Mohenjo Daro and a pirate in Vijay Krishna (Victor) Acharya's Thug, a big-budget action-cum-love story, produced by Yash Raj Films.

A source informs, "YRF is working on two action dramas " Thug and Dhoom 4, both directed by Victor. The story of Thug is kept under wraps as Hrithik begins shooting for it from January next year. It's a fantasy film, set against a fictional historical setting, and revolves around the adventures of a dashing pirate captain (Hrithik) and his crew. Hrithik's character is something like Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) and what he plays in the Pirates Of The Caribbean (POTC) series. As Aditya Chopra has made a successful franchise of the Dhoom series, the idea is to make a Thug series if the first one is successful. Hrithik is excited about playing a swashbuckling pirate, something he hasn't done before. He has been sitting through various look tests with Victor and Adi. The shooting of Thug will begin from January next year."

The source adds that a huge set of a ship will be put up in YRF during the next couple of months where the major scenes on board will be canned. "The first schedule is a lengthy one " 150 days " after which, more than half of the film is expected to be ready. The lead actress opposite Hrithik is being finalised."

There were talks of Deepika Padukone signing Thug opposite Hrithik, but she has denied those reports.

That's actually a great idea. Makes the story more Indian, and it would be easier to weave in the hindi songs into the story. They could add some humor by taking subtle digs at the the stereotypes that exist about dacoits and give the story a fresh spin.

Absly..He cud be swashbuckling like Jack Sparrow, angst ridden like batman or annoying but flamboyant flash... The pirate kinda takes some willing suspension of disbelief and not many indian viewer's would be willing to suspend their disbelief..
