IKRS 22nd October 2015 ep 64 My Take
Viplav puts his powers of persuasion into practice. Yet again he implores them to come to the Navratri mela a mega event. There exists a certain subtle conflict. The liberals at logger heads with the conservations thinkers. Dhani too shows a liberal view and says, there's no harm in going . Dulari and Inderani decide, on behalf of the younger widows as well. Viplav accepts, fine he and Dhani will go,they'll return in the evening. Sita mai calls them to stop, Dhani tries to persuade her mother again, it's only to sell the goods.. she in actual fact seeks her mother's permission,to go to the mela. The world of the mela is colourful as opposed to dull life of the Ashram. It has buoyancy of spirit in it's sights of colourful pinwheels and carousels, people look happy. Whereas at the Ashram the only colour is that on the walls, and dullness fixed on the residents faces!
But for Dhani after her earthly mother's permission. She also seeks blessings from her spiritual mother, Durga maa, bless my work she prays to the goddess. Dhani's prayer outlines a .. domino effect.. so I can fulfil what I came here for. So that in turn, Viplav can achieve what he plans. To make us self-sufficient.So he can then return home.. to his family..
Ready to serve..Viplav sets up the goods on the stall and casts an eye of appreciation upon the quality of work done by the widows. The customers will be speechless at the products! dhani returns and he sneers at her, wasted your time! shall we start some work? together as a working pair they arrange the stall ,ready for the sell. Once done he in particular like a typical sales man waits upon approaching customers with a beaming smile. Then promotes the quality of the goods and then gives the asking price which puts off the buyer and he turns away. Dhani raises the question of the price being exorbitant. Far too much. He calms her down and reminds her it's the beginning, the rest of the day still remains.. So he doesn't give up his hard sell and next uses his own skills of hawking and calling out to customers in a typical market style hard up front sell..
Sometimes it's difficult to break rules or seen to be breaking age old established traditions. So people put on a mock armoury..hard on the outside but with the soft centre.. a sense of committing a sin if we are seen to be enjoying. In the dull and drudgery of the Ashram a squabble of concern brews up.. about the prompt return of the sellers back to the Ashram .Inderani has a go at Dulari for giving conflicting messages to Dhani. At first opposing her. Then allowing her to go! but Dulari,is annoyed with Dhani for being irresponsible and not returning home in time.. Sita maa is restless. She wants to go out to the mandir. Rajlaxmi comes running and says she wants to to assist Sita maa . soon after Suvarna .join s it's like the young fall back on the elderly to allow them a bit respite from the boredom of the Ashram ..
Excuses for a bit of joy At the Ashram. Rachna too comes out with an excuse to step out of the Ashram .. so one by one all the residents slip out of the Ashram to have a peek at the fair!. Dulari whinges annoyed no one is bothered about her buchiya ! Eventually Inderani too, gives Dulari an excuse and slips away.. and Dulari is left all alone ..
Back at the stall Dhani's patience begins to fail but Viplav soldiers on and bucks her up only a bit of time has lapsed since they opened up shop.. She moans no customers because of the expensive prices. Viplav reminds her of profit making ..eventually due to the wait for customers and the heat, he gets irritated him as well. When suddenly a breath of fresh blows upon them and Sita mai, rajlaxmi and Suvarna arrive at the stall.. Dhani welcomes them with a refreshing smile and Viplav stands aside to allow them full ownership of the stall.. as he says he'll leave and get water for all.. whenever Viplav disappears ,he does so to support the business! Survarna asks the obvious question how much money has been made till now? Dispirited Dhani, replies nothing much yet. But old school Sita maa, gives hope and points out the whole day remains yet. Rachna and then Inderani too turns up much to every one's delight! she admits, she too wants to enjoy the fete! and loves how the stall looks. Then another super surprise ,Dulari too sheepishly and sulks one by one all left so she felt why she should she be left behind! that she too has come to give a helping hand. There is an atmosphere of funfair behind the stall as all widows are together, no one is missing.Inderani asks about Viplav. Dhani replies to get water. suddenly Viplav's amplified voice sounds off! from a nearby microphone. Viplav had sensed the low morale of Dhani regards low sales. This attitude can be contagious to the other widows too. He knows this selling of craft in which they worked so hard.. is their maiden selling. It's imperative they succeed at this venture, he decides he would give them the feeling of beginners luck.. hence he uses unique exclusive sales pitch technique of attracting a rush of customers to the stall by announcing the buy one and get one deal! no sooner he does make the announcement! customers flock to the stall where they are attended to by reinforced sales staff! Viplav shows wisdom in when he to announce this drive.. after all the widows were present at the stall to deal with the customers!..he was aware the widows would question the technique by giving off half of the stuff as freebies.. but he would cross that bridge when he comes to it.. While Viplav empowers the widows. The wily Tripurari , muses and suffers much anxiety . By the looks of things, Viplav is making theses widows self- sufficient, which means that he is very likely to return home.. which cuts out my chances of winning favour in the eyes of Dashrant.. I will have to stop these widows success otherwise they will block mine! evil forces, infiltrate sincere efforts..
Viplav congratulates the widows on their success at handling and satisfying the customers, making a grand collection.. Raj laxmi moans they had to give a lot of stuff free Viplav teaches them alongside the knack of playing with the mind of a buyer.. with the golden rule of business to attract customers by exclusive deals .. and offering a buy one get one free deal entices and allures the customer into getting a sense of gain.. at the price of one item they get an extra one thrown in free as well! .. Viplav offers to feed the sales staff and leaves to get food
Tripurari arrives and feigns sincerity.. offers them offertory and pretends to give them a helping hand.. to win their trust and thus usher in a calm within the widows minding the stall.. so that he could clean their earnings right from under their noses! Suvarna of course is delighted to see him, unaware that tripurari is here for a purpose to commit a theft. To me this section where the cash box is left in a visible place.. Is a bad rule of business shown here. Due diligence should have been exerted to best to keep the access to their cash less visible. Still this scene has it's only importance...
While the staff is busy.. they notice with much alarm their cash has been stolen from the box! Then follows the devastation of raised spirits when the realization sets in their monies have been stolen! Panic follows along with blame of negligence on the part of staff minding the store by Inderani! Dulari is visibly distressed.. as she admits the money is not there it's gone! The staff is terribly shaken and Suvarna investigates outside the stall if anyone was spotted acting suspicious! More and more panic sets in! more bewilderment as to who could steal their cash!? There is hurt , dismay ,confusion and above all a sense of injustice of being robbed of money they had rightfully earned .. the theft itself brings home the value and worth of hard work..
Viplav arrives with a smile and is perplexed at their worried faces and the sight of Dulari going to pieces in floods of tears! he asks what's happened? Dhani replies, a huge injustice has happened! all our money has been stolen! Viplav sounds shocked. Next minute he calmly says , no problem, not to worry! It will benefit someone.. even a thief! This ignites protest from Inderani what is he saying? Dhani shouts it was our hard earned money! and he's saying let it go! Viplav consoles and strengthens them ,never you mind we have all tonight .. we'll work hard again! make stuff again and sell it yet again! if anyone should worry it's that thief!
Viplav sneaks back to his bike opens the box and some coins stare up at his face! looks like the thief ends up with a smeared face! the coins laugh at him , the wilyTripurari has been outwitted by someone smarter than him! Why would the thief worry? How do you mean? the young starlings ask the wise owl Viplav! he replies.. why? by now that smartass must have found out exactly what I mean! all he got is a next to nothing empty cash box! says Viplav with a smug as a bug! expression on his face! Dhani argues, but what off the money in the box?? Viplav nods and then pulls out a wad of paper money out of his jean pocket ,much to the amazement of his Ashram white brigade! With a chuckle he waves the cash at them and Dulari looks stupefied... Dhani cries out.. heavens! this lad! and he replies , good !he gave the excuse of going to the market and slyly took all the money with him! otherwise they would have really been robbed and by now , they wold have been tearing their hair out! and all blame would have heaped on the rakhsas! he taunts Dhani! Viplav gets showered with praise for his foresight!
Tripurari's soliloquy... he wrestles within his mind how can this be ? before his very eyes money was boxed in this cash box.. which he chucks to the ground in angst. Tripurari knows who has hoodwinked him! and for him he decides, do what you can Viplav babba! but he will not let him succeed in his purpose! Neither will he allow those widows to become self- sufficient! Whatever happens he will not allow Viplav to return home! thing is, if he can't be pleasing to the eyes of Guru dev.. he won't allow Viplav to be seen as righteous in the eyes of gurudev either! He would have to hatch such a plan now, that will force Viplav to spend his entire life at the Ashram! Viplav babba ! the bane of his life! Tripurari wears a ferocious scowl on his face..
Viplav's business tips!.. without really spelling out for them , through today's sell Viplav quietly teaches them on the job.. about the ups and downs of running a business. Some days when good money is made.Profit is seen after clearing overheads.. But then there are all low days, when losses are incurred..The trick is not to lose faith!
Finally he sets in the tone of equal distribution of wealth.. with a beaming smile , he draws their attention to.. team effort being rewarded individually! He gives each one of them their share of money for their individual effort.. Indrani and Dulari refuse to accept the money.. but he shows them it's a payment for their hard work. Money raises self- confidence and gives the drive to work more ..if they refuse their dues, they will fail to appreciate what it means to value what is rightfully theirs. Dhani with a scintillating smile asks him about his share? He teases her , he doesn't need money , what would he do with it? then he shows his money.. and Dhani suggests, he should buy his gold medal back.. he assures her he will ,once he has achieved what he plans to do..make them self- sufficient in earning decent wages for themselves.. after that, he will get his medal released from the pawn broker. Viplav makes them celebrate shared ownership of their success..
A moving episode where a group of timid vulnerable widows are riveted into action by an inspiring young new age man.. Hamlet53.10.15
