James was walking down the corridor in the dead of the night… It was way past curfew, but what the heck he was head boy! A really popular head boy with a personality that made him the most sought after boy in Hogwarts… well one of the three at least! He had to admit Remus was pretty popular too! But well he wasn't here worrying about Remus' furry little problem or anything… he was here to play a trick…and unlike others this was for his best friend… a really well deserved trick, he thought.
It had been less than a week ago when he was about to ask Evans out… again… but this time it was different. He had actually behaved himself for a week and he did deserve a treat for that… and that's what he was planning on getting himself before his darling best friend spoiled it all… He was behaving himself very well and polite… and Lily actually looked like she was considering it before Sirius came along and reminded her of all the reasons why she DIDN'T accept his offer before… he did just that… And James was left fuming unable to stop him or deny it for he knew very well Lily knew the truth about it… and he decided he was going to get his revenge and now was the time…
He smiled to himself wickedly as he thought of what exactly he had planned for his good, loyal friend. He believed in fair and square, James did. If Sirius played with his food he would ply with Sirius' food. If Sirius played with his romance life… so would James. And James had so much more scope than Sirius did…
A final spell was going to do it… He brought his wand out and muttered a spell. And it was done. James stepped back to admire his own handwork. Perfect! He chucked to himself as he twirled his wand around his fingers, just picturing the look on Sirius' face… He would give his left arm to see it! Grinning satisfied; James turned around and strode down the corridor with pride in his walk.
He had gotten away with it… Well there was no doubt he wouldn't but well the fact that he did… yea he was the best, wasn't he… that could be a problem because Lily didn't seem to want the best…. But could he, THE James Potter, be any less than the best? He just couldn't seem to help it! And his Lily couldn't seem to see it either… but she would… eventually… BANG!
Owww! He had walked straight into a wall… he massaged his shoulder cursing the wall silently before something struck him. Did the Hogwarts walls have sharp projections? Before he could develop that thought further he sensed movement… it was too dark to see something but his eyes had gotten accustomed to the dark by now and he could see some figure trying to get up from the ground. He glared at the faceless figure, massaging his poor shoulder. The figure straightened up and James saw that it was a girl. And she seemed to be holding her mouth. He heard her mutter something but couldn't make out what she said.
"What?" he asked, not caring to lower his voice. He was head boy! But he got his answer the second later when a bright light illuminated the corridor and he could finally see who it was that had tried to physically harm him. His heart gave a momentary thud and raced. He found himself staring into the blazing green depths of Lily Evan's eyes. And boy they didn't look happy. She seemed to be adjusting her teeth with one hand while holding her wand with the other. He stopped massaging his shoulder and started at her in shock and awe. How was it that she managed to look beautiful even when it was the dead of the night and she hadn't even bothered to put her hair in its clip properly. But the tendrils coming down from her pony just made her look even more attractive and he could think of doing only one thing in this scarcely lit corridor where the two of them were all alone… no Sirius around too!
But she didn't seem to be sharing his thoughts… in fact she seemed to be saying something to him… he could see her lips move but not hear anything.
"What?" he repeated leaning in further.
"For God's sake lower your voice Potter! You might wake up the portraits!" she hissed. Portraits!? She was worried about portraits when all he could think of was snogging her senseless? POTRAITS?
"Sure…" he muttered sarcastically, "we gotta do what the portraits say don't we?'
"Don't get sarcastic with me Potter! What are you doing here at this hour?" she asked authoritatively, narrowing her eyes suspiciously at him.
"I could ask you the same thing!" he replied pat-back grinning.
"I'm head girl!" she replied hotly, putting her hands on her hips, diverting the tip of the light source to the floor casting them in some more darkness.
"Well I'm head boy!" he said imitating her actions and voice. Why did she have to dim the lights now? Didn't she know what the sight of her in such scarce light was doing to him? She wasn't that stupid!
"Urgh! Potter I swear…" and she stopped short as she glanced behind him. Uh-oh! He had totally forgotten about that! He was unable to see the change of expressions on her face but he could very well imagine them. Years of staring at her had etched every small expression of hers in his mind. Especially those of her in anger. He braced himself, getting ready for the telling off. He waited and waited for her to burst.
And she did.
James thought that she was crying.
"Lily… Lily don't cry! Ill… I'll take it down… I didn't think it would disturb you so much…" he said holding his hands out anxiously to hold her.
"D-D… Disturb me?" and she hooted and James realized that she was laughing. Well it wasn't really unexpected as she wasn't so much against the marauders playing tricks on each other. And she didn't seem to be caring much about the portraits anymore! James knew that this trick was damn funny.
Sirius had a small black book filled with the girls he dated and rated on the Sirius-scale. And the ratings (ranging from 1 – 10) would depend on so many aspects. The concept of Sirius-scale was known throughout Hogwarts but only the marauders had ever seen it in use. And now the lowest of the girls in Sirius' books were blown up for the whole school to see… And Sirius would write little comments about them in the margin and he had blown that up as well…
He smiled and turned to see Lily who was reading out each of the comments and laughing at them. Her wand was on the floor and it had reduced them to a state of candlelight darkness. And seeing Lily laughing so lively next to him… well there was only so much a guy could take. He caught hold of her arm and whirled her around to face him. Her throat caught in a gasp and before she could catch her breath, his lips sought hers. She didn't have time to think. She just responded, melting into his kiss. She had never imagined that kissing James would be so… so… so real and so… nice…
As for James, it was all the things he had imagined and much better. She was so cuddly… and vulnerable… and so … so… right… It was all he wanted! Well almost… there was still one thing… but that would have to wait. Right now he was too busy kissing her…
