~ Crack Shot ~
The attack on Gayatri was not a chance accident but a well-orchestrated one. The thought kept buzzing in my mind as I tried to focus on the target before me. Finding an answer to the perplexing mystery, my mind presented only two names as the potential perpetrators - Kunwar Chacha and Kunwar Chachi. My concentration swapped targets and in a bid to find a way to obtain the incriminating evidence, I missed the shot. Merry laughter greeted my ears and turning around, I saw Gayatri there. Not one to wallow in grief or self-pity, she was already up and about, no traces of Badi Rani Maa's tirade from last night marring her disposition. At my expression, she immediately sobered. She turned to leave when my next words halted her.
"Rani Gayatri, do you think this is funny?"
Oddly, a look of admiration crossed her face at my words, and before she could collect herself, I pulled her closer to table where the glass bottles were set, challenging her to try her hand if she thought herself better. Her denial to do so for lack of a slingshot amused me, and I was quick to dump the rifle in her hands, despite her pleading look. As I moved aside to allow her space, she almost lost balance and I had to steady her - a mistake. Her eyes, instead of the target, found my face and stayed there, refusing to budge. A hint of a smile danced on her face and I was forced to direct her attention to the target. As I tried to guide her faltering hands on the rifle, I knew it was a lost cause. She was totally nervous and distracted by my proximity. At my command to shoot, her fingers hit the trigger but only because her fingers were caged by mine. The shot rang out and before I knew it, she had buried her face in my chest. I was baffled and, as she raised her head, I deftly extricated my arms from around her. She was embarrassed for her behavior, but I didn't miss the look in those eyes that had led her to seek solace in me during that moment of distress - Trust. I didn't want her trust. With trust followed affection, and on its heels came love. Choosing that moment, I let the reprimand flow from my lips.
"Jis kaam ko karte hue khudke haath kaanpte ho, us kaam me dusron ka mazaak nahi udaya karte, Rani Gayatri."
And then, paying no heed to her explanation, I resumed shooting. The sound of the successive shots crashing the bottles added to her distress, but I didn't care. I couldn't care, not when the consequences would be painful for both of us.
Falling in love with a broken heart would do Rani Gayatri no good.
This is adorable. Ranaji is aware of Gaytri's feelings for him but he choose to ignore it and not letting her to dream more, because he thinks that this is going to hurt them both, at the end...👍🏼
I know he will realize it soon that this is not something which can hurt them but something that can heal his broken heart..
Last line of this drabble is awesome and so deep:
Falling in love with a broken heart would do Rani Gayatri no good.
So, Its not just about the promise he had given to Sona but also because he doesn't want to hurt Gaytri. Can I assume that he actually is caring for Gayatri a lot?! Yes, I do cause this is making me feel lovely...❤️
Would love to read something from Gayatri's POV too, even though she seemed like an open book in the show, still there is a lot more in her and there is a much scope to explore her... IMO.
