Hello everyone!

Sorry for the delay in updating coz well, as much as I would love to just do this for a living, i.e., write ManYa stories, RS is a meano and he won't pay me to do it so I have to opt for other means such a staring at brain scans all day long and figuring out whats right or wrong and that takes up my time.. Aakhir paapi pet ka sawal hai!! 😆 So if I am not regular with my updates, please bear with me .. Aur waise bhi, Sunday ko tho sab ki chutti hoti hai 😆 Hope you enjoy this next chapter. And I have to warn you that this chapter is rather short because thats what the story demanded and I am still in the process of writing the next chapter so it may take some time.

Thank you so very much for all the love and adulation that you are showering on this story. Please continue to do so! 😃 I noticed a bunch of new readers and a big welcome to them. 😳

Cheers,

Neet

Chapter 11

"You must be hungry. Let me make you something to eat," Mantu said getting up from the bed. "I'll make it. You sit," Amaya said holding his hand. Mantu contemplated the option for a minute in his head before he said, "Amaya, the newly wedded bride's first time in the kitchen is a big deal here in Banaras. And we'll have that ceremony for you tomorrow. For now, sit here while I get something for you to eat."

A few minutes later, he was back with a plate of food. He handed the plate to her and Amaya could no longer ignore her hunger pangs at the sight of food and she attacked the food hungrily. A few bites into the meal, she had a sudden thought and she looked up at Mantu, "have you eaten anything?" Mantu had been watching her eat with a sweet smile on his face, "it's okay. You eat." Amaya smiled at him as she took the plate in hand and started feeding him. He took a bite but when she offered him the next bite, he stopped her. He then started to feed her. It was such a quiet, close moment - the first thing they were doing together as husband and wife - feeding each other.

When they were done, Amaya picked up the plate to put it away, the same time that Mantu did. "I told you Amaya, the bride's first time in the kitchen is a big deal. You have to wait for it," he said smiling as he pried the plate away from her fingers and took it back to the kitchen. When he came back, Amaya was standing by the window, looking out at the sky. "What are you looking at?" he asked, coming to stand next to her. "You know how they say when people die, they become a star? One of these stars must be my Superman. And I want to thank him tonight.. From giving me you.." she said, her gaze fixed on the sky. "If that's the case, I should thank him too, shouldn't I?" Mantu said, "But wait! You've never formally introduced me to your Superman." "Well, I'll introduce you now. Mantu, that brightest star in the sky is my Dad, my Superman. The person I love the most in this whole wide world.. Just as much as I love you.." she said turning to Mantu. Mantu smiled at her and she turned back to look at the sky, "Dad! This is Mantu. The love of my life. The hero of my life." Mantu turned to look out the window too, "Namaste Uncle. I am Mantu. Your darling daughter's husband." The way he said husband caused a fluttering in Amaya's heart. "I am sorry. You must have had grand plans for your daughter's wedding, right? None of that worked out but I promise you I will love her and fill her life with all the happiness in the world. I will care for her, cherish her and protect her till my very last breath," Mantu said.

Amaya's eyes filled with tears and when Mantu turned to look at her, he frowned. "Amaya! I just promised your dad that I would keep you happy always and look you are crying. Do you want to spoil my first impression in front of your dad?" he asked as he wiped away her tears gently. Amaya shook her head indicating no. "Mantu, I've introduced you to my dad. Now don't you think you should introduce me to your parents?" she asked. "Arey haan! Amma, Babuji," Mantu said, looking towards the night sky filled with stars, "This is your daughter-in-law Amaya.. She is a little crazy, slightly childish but infinitely lovable all the same and I love her like crazy!" "How mean! I introduced you to my dad as the love of my life, my hero and you tell your parents that I am crazy and childish?" Amaya asked crossly. "But I also said you were immensely lovable and that I love you like crazy!" Mantu defended himself, "and are you really going to fight with me in front of my parents?" "Okay fine!" Amaya conceded as she turned to look at the sky, "Amma, Babuji.. I hope you know that you should be so very proud of Mantu. He is such an amazing human being with such a heart of pure gold. He is caring, helpful, sincere and such an honest human being. I am sure its all your good traits that he has been blessed with."

Mantu felt his eyes fill with tears. Before Amaya took him to task about it, Mantu quickly brushed the tears away and said, "Buttering up your mother-in-law and father-in-law eh? Smart move!" "I wasn't buttering them. I was only speaking the truth," Amaya replied. They went silent for a few minutes as Mantu stood gazing at her, taking in how gorgeously beautiful she looked. Every second he spent looking at her, he felt as if he was falling a little more in love with her. Was that even possible? How could he love her any more than he already did? He already loved her to the point of madness. What more could there be left? He noticed a look of melancholy cross her face.

"Are you thinking about Rachita?" he asked. How could he just read her thoughts like that? She wondered amazed. "Hmmm.." she admitted, "Rachi di and mom.. I wonder how Rachi di is holding up. Imagine if you got to know one fine day that you weren't your dad's daughter? It would kill me. And that too in such a humiliatingly public way? And mom? How would she be holding up? Its probably something she wanted to bury somewhere deep in her heart and never have to think about or look back at again. To have something like that tossed in her face.. I can't even imagine what she must be going through."

"I know Amaya. It is a really tough time for both Rachita and your mother. But both of them are very strong individuals. Just think about it. Your mother was strong enough to hold her own after your dad passed away. She might have her reasons for hiding the truth from all of you. Maybe it was a mistake. Maybe it wasn't. But if she hid it from you, I am sure she only had the best intentions for her family in doing so. And she has all of us with her to support her and keep her from breaking. As for Rachita, she is very sensible and mature. This has come a huge shock to her. Her whole identity probably seems like a question mark to her right now but she will pull through and she has the best kind of person to help her through this - Rama. Someone who loves her unconditionally. Rama's love will heal her Amaya. Trust me!" Mantu comforted Amaya as she hugged him tight.

"Maybe you should call your mom and talk to her," Mantu suggested, "I'm sure she'll like that." Amaya nodded her head as she pulled away from the hug. She reached for her phone and called her mom. Mantu signed that he was leaving the room so she could talk in private but Amaya held his hand and shook her head. "You are family," she mouthed and that went straight to Mantu's heart. Family.. he sighed as he sat down on the bed and watched Amaya.

"Is she okay?" Mantu asked when Amaya hung up after speaking to her mom. "She is trying to be but I know that she is not. I've asked Jazz to make sure that she eats her food on time so she doesn't fall sick. Maybe I'll go visit her tomorrow," Amaya said.

"You must be really tired. Go to sleep now. I will sleep in the courtyard," Mantu said getting up from the bed. "There is no need for that Mantu," Amaya said shyly, "I mean, I know you are trying to make me comfortable but its alright. You can sleep here." "Are you sure?" Mantu asked. Amaya nodded her head. Mantu closed the window and both of them lay down on the bed. Amaya turned towards Mantu. "Good night," he said, kissing her forehead. "Good night.." she replied. Just as Mantu closed his eyes to sleep she said, "Suno.."

"Bolo?"

"I love you"

"I love you too," he said, taking her hand in his and kissing it softly.

"Rachitaji, you probably haven't eaten anything since morning. Please have something to eat," Rama said as he brought her a plateful of food. Rachita sat on the bed, sobbing quietly. "I know Rachitaji. I know this is really really hard for you. But you should know that Sneha Aunty would never do anything to deliberately hurt you. If she hasn't told you the truth all these years, there has to be a valid reason behind it all. I am so sorry. All of this happened because of me," Rama tried to apologize.

"I don't know Rama. I can't understand anything. I feel like I've gone numb. I can't even accept it. How am I not my dad's daughter? How can it be? Did dad know that I wasn't his daughter? Or.. Or.. Did mom cheat him too?" Rachita asked, a certain sense of panic rising in her. "Rachitaji, I don't have the answer to your questions and the only person who can answer your questions are Sneha Aunty. But I will say this. From whatever little I know of Sneha aunty, I do not think she is capable of that kind of a deceit," Rama reassured Rachita. "I am sure, whenever you are ready to talk to Sneha Aunty about all this, she will give you honest answers to all your questions. Till then, please don't form any opinions in your mind. We only know one line of the story. The whole story could be anything at all. Please calm yourself down," Rama said, placing a reassuring hand on Rachita's shoulder. "Now please have something to eat. A hungry stomach is as much a devil's workshop as is an idle mind," he said as he took a spoonful of food and held it to Rachita's mouth.

"Rama I am not hungry," Rachita said. "You are not but I am. And in Banaras, there is a tradition that the husband and wife have to have their first meal post-marriage together. If one does not eat, the other cannot. Please have mercy on me," Rama said. Rachita looked at him questioningly, "Rama.." "Okay.. Fine.. There isn't a tradition like that but we could make one. I mean, all the traditions must have come into place like that right? Someone somewhere started doing something and everyone followed it? We'll start our own tradition - of having at least one meal a day together. Now please, I am starving to death," Rama pleaded. Despite the devastation she felt, Rachita could not help but smile at Rama's efforts to get her to eat. She was too tired. She was too tired to argue with Rama, or resist his charms, to think about why her mom had done what she'd done or who her real dad could be. She was too exhausted so she opened her mouth and let Rama feed her.

When they finished eating, Rama went to put the plate away and when he returned, Rachita was fast asleep. He covered her with a sheet and went to his side of the bed and lay down to sleep.
