Chapter-2C

MY LOVE INTEREST

"Arey bhabhi...ap humare bhai ko bhai bula sakte hai. Hai nah bhai?" Mihir asked Raman sheepishly.

[Bhabhi...you can call our bhai (bro) as 'bhai']

Shell shocked! Did he want that? A big no! But why? He doesn't know. Why does he felt so tensed when Mihir asked Ishita to call him brother? He could not figure it out. Sweating badly. He rubbed his cheek and chin vigorously as if to shrug off something disgusting from there. He was totally scared of the situation when she calls him bhai. It somewhat made him disappointed. What he actually wants? All these questions passed his mind in a micro second.

Meanwhile Ishita stood still with the glass of milk. She was wondering why Mihir's words made her angry. She felt it wrong. Calling Raman her brother made her blood boil. She looked at Raman who meekily smiled. That was a fake one. She knew it. She felt her throat getting dry.

"Why don't you want him to be your brother? He helped you. He is awesome!" Angel Ishita beamed.

"But...a brother never ogles at a sister in that way! A brother can't touch a sister in the way he did today...!!" Devil Ishita tried to reason.

"Okay. So...he doesn't see you as his sister. But you can place him as your brother no...!" Angel suggested.

"I...No...I mean...Yeah...well...hmm-mm...haan...nah...!" Devil stumbled.

"Are you singing?" Angel got confused.

"No...let me think!" Devil Ishita put on a thinking face.

The glass of milk slip of her hand when she was in her contemplation. Everyone's attention turned towards the milk and the broken glass pieces while Raman and Ishita looked at each other in confusion. Raman cleared his throat to say something. Maybe that he doesn't want milk tonight. But Ishita thought that he woud ask her to call him bhai. Fearing it, she cut him short, "I'll bring another glass of milk." She rushed to the kitchen without listening to him while Mihir and Patak smirked. The very first night his brothers came there turned out to be a disaster. What is ahead would be a roller coaster ride!

A fresh morning.

Raman came out of the room after covering his little brothers with quilt. Taking a cup off coffee given by Meenu he walked back to his room after asking about Ishita to her. "Tu nah...Ishita se coffee banana sikho!" He made a face before climbing the stairs.

[You learn from Ishita how to make coffee]

When he was passing by Ishita's bedroom he heard her talking to someone. Tension. Is it Patak? He was unreasonably getting angry on the thought of Patak and Ishita being in the same room. He ran towards his bedroom only to find Mihir sleeping there and Patak's space empty. Rushing to Ishita's bedroom was a swift act. He stood in front of the door to compose himself and his panting breath.

*Knock-knock*

The room was open the next moment. The one who opened it made him go red in anger. He clenched his teeth smiling cheekily while Patak returned an innocent smile in knowing well about his brother's plight. Ishita smiled while sipping the coffee and called Raman to get inside which he did in no time.

"Tum yahan kya kar rahe ho?" Raman's face so dangerous.

[What're you doing here?]

"I'm sorry bhai...I know it's not good before marriage. But I couldn't help talking to her after seeing her.I didn't get time yesterday. So thought of..."Patak apologised.

Raman felt guilty for making Patak feel bad. So he patted his shouder saying, "I was kidding!"

"Oh bhai...ap bhi nah...Well...see...I'm going..." (Turning to Ishita) "Bye sweetheart..!"

Raman sighed a relief when Patak left the place. Ishita looked on nervously while Raman smiled at her and walked up to the door. He believed that she would call him back. He wanted to ask her a lot. He wanted to take her away from this noise for some time. But the Raman Bhalla hates asking out girls. They should stalk him instead. The funniest part is, he wants to date the girl whom his brother is going to get married to.

"Apko kuch kehna hai kya?" Ishita asked him nervously.

[You wanna say something?]

"Hmm...nahin...kuch poochna tha..." He turned to her.

[No. Wanna ask something]

"Poochiye..." She casted her eyes downwards.

[Ask ]

"Voh...are you sure you want to marry Patak?"

What did she expect him to ask? She doesn't know. The question from his part made her feel weak. The lie made her eyes well up. Though she tried her best not to let him see that. She was ran out of words. She wanted to spit out the truth. Truth that she doesn't love anyone. But then, she was a little selfish. Not for securing her life. But the love and care she is receiving from Raman made her lie. Lie for getting the same pampering from him.

"Yes...I...I love Patak..."

Mihir and Patak who were listening to their conversation smacked their own head. "These two are stupids" They mouthed in unison and went away.

Raman on the other hand was fuming in anger. He gritted his teeth for hearing those words from her. What he want to hear from her? He knows it. But then, the egoist in him shrugged it off. Or maybe awaited the moment she tells him what's in her mind which is the same in his.

"Oh...I...am so glad!!" He faked a smile and left.

The trio came to Mrs Iyengar's house to discuss about the renting. She was being adamant and moreover angry for these brothers for irritating her. Raman's patience was slipping away by each second the woman talked angrily at them. Patak and Mihir were acting sweet to butter the lady which they do with everyone which irked Raman further.

"Humein yeh ghar nahi chahiye!" Raman roared earning a shocked stare from the trio.

[We don't want this house]

"Bhai...cooldown...We can talk it out...!" Mihir tried to calm him down.

"No Mihir...no more drama..." (Turning to Mrs Iyengar) "See aunty...We're hear to ask your son to marry my cousin Shagun Arora!"

"Kya...? Ek Punjabi ko...mera beta Ashok kaise shaadi karenge. Karmam karmam...yeh kabhi nahi hoga!" Mrs Iyengar got angry.

[How'll my son Ashok will marry a Punjabi? It won't ever happen]

"Oh really? Agar Ashok ko humare cousin se shaadi karnese ap roka nah...You will know who Raman Kumar Bhalla is! You better agree for their marriage..."

[If you dare stop Ashok from marrying bout cousin...]

With that warning the trio got out while Mihir asked Raman what is he up to.

"Yaar us buddi ko manaalo...varna voh Shagun se shaadi karke pura zindagi barbad hoga mera! I hate Shagun!!!!!" Raman pulled his hair in frustration.

[Make that old lady agree. Else my entire life will get spoiled by marrying Shagun]

"Bhai...Ashok threatened you that he will kill you if you marries Shagun. But he too is scared of this woman Iyengar aunty..his amma...so he knowingly pushed you here to make her agree for his and Shagun's marriage..but the problem is..." Patak stopped earning a glare from Raman.

"Kya problem hai?" Mihir asked angrily.

[What's the problem?]

"I mean...are you people sure that Shagun wants to marry Ashok?" Patak asked making a 'don't beat me' face.

"Who cares" Raman and Mihir said in unison shrugging their shoulder.

It was lunch time. Raman called Ishita to ask her about her studies. She politely let him know that she is comfortable and would go back home at half past three. He checked his watch only to see it is three o'clock. He hastely hung up the call and rushed to the door only to bumb into Patak seeing whom he got irriatated.

"Where are you going bhai?"

"Ah...it's...an urgent meeting. I'll see you at home." Saying which he rushed out.

"Bhai kaha bhag raha hai?" Mihir asked patting Patak's shoulder for which Patak replied, "No idea!"

[Where is he running?]

Raman was feeling like he is going to attend the most difficult examination of his life. He was nervous in anticipation. Though, he didn't know what he actually upto. All he knew was he is going to give her a lift home. They are going to drive home together!

While his heart and mind was occupied by Ishita his eyes were also begun their game. He felt his eyes seeing nothing but her. That was how his car hit a bus before he could even see what is coming on his way.
