I can see women equality more prevalent in the Metros, but is it so in the villages too? Although it is surprising that these poor Indian women come to work at homes, are often the main break winners, and still are not empowered yet.
Can education and jobs alone empower women? Is being empowered only limited to the media (which is itself very questionable in its role, as unfortunately I cannot trust them every time myself) and how one defines it?
My perspective of India is pure confusion, as this country does not seem to be composed of one culture but in fact many. The Metros are more individualistic and collectivism is more in the villages, and in both places women feel cheated from their rights. But more unfortunately, opportunists constantly are in a look out to hijack the feminist movement for their own benefit and this results in a confrontational attitude against their male counterparts who should ideally be an ally in the battle for emancipation.
There is no homogeneity in Indian system or culture. But should that help in the cause for women or is it the curse? In India, the most powerful people can be female, but the most weak too. Its really a lot of confusion ...
If you compare it with Europe or East Asians (China, Japanese) women seem more empowered as they seem to feel like that about themselves. I have heard so many Indian women believe that they are less empowered than their sisters in other parts of the world.
Are we living in a society of conflicting dimensions into the same sphere?
