Chapter Thirty-Four

The tender moment was came to an abrupt end as Mala's voice echoed out into the courtyard.

"Parvati? Are the dupattas dry?"

Rudra and Parvati snapped out of their trance. They simultaneously pulled away from each other as if scorched by the other's touch. Rudra looked down as he ran a hand through his hair. He was not the overly-romantic type, but something about Paro always brought out the emotional side of him. One minute he was a tough BSD officer, and the next he was basking in the closeness with his wife. For a moment, Rudra believed he had gotten carried away, but then realized that Paro hadn't pulled back. In fact, she had moved closer to him when he held her hands. He looked up at her and found her looking at everything but him.

Parvati was definitely flustered. As soon as she heard Mala's voice she snapped out of the intimate moment and took a step away from Rudra. She could feel the blush deepening on her cheeks as she recalled how close she was to him just moments ago. However, this time his proximity didn't feel wrong. Hadn't she even take a step closer to him when he took her hands in his? The way Rudra held her hands against his chest, the way he looked at her lovingly and smirked, it made Paro feel as though she was melting, especially when her eyes locked with his molten brown orbs. The mere thought made her smile and blush even more. What was happening to her? Suddenly, she felt his eyes on her. Parvati looked up and their eyes connected. Words weren't needed as they understood that something had changed between them in that moment. Rudra smirked seeing her shyness take over as she looked away and tried to hide the smile, but it was too late. He had already seen it.

Parvati grabbed the stack of folded dupattas and began walking towards the house. She slyly glanced at Rudra as she walked by him, receiving a playful smirk in response as his eyes followed her every move. As she looked back to see if he was following her, she failed to notice the small water puddle on the sleek pavement. Her foot slipped and the dupattas flew out of her hands and onto the ground. Parvati let out a gasp as she felt herself falling. She would've fallen hard onto the floor if Rudra hadn't been there. Seeing her slip, he immediately leapt forward and grabbed her hand in order to save her. However, what he hadn't expected was that he also lost his footing and slipped in the puddle. He pulled her to him in an attempt to balance themselves. However that backfired as her sudden weight sent him stumbling. Rudra fell to the ground, knocking down a can of blue dye used for the dupattas. His back made contact with the wet pavement, the blue liquid falling all over him as well. Before he could even get up he felt a sudden thud on chest as Parvati fell on top of him.

She closed her eyes and let out a small yelp as she fell, expecting to hit the ground. However, to her surprise, she landed on something softer than the hard pavement. Parvati realized what it was the minute she felt the erratic heartbeat beneath the palm of her hand. Slowly, she opened her eyes and looked up, only to find Rudra looking back down at her, holding her protectively against him to make sure she was okay. She, however, was more worried about him.

"Are you okay?" Parvati asked, concerned.

"I'm okay," Rudra responded. "Are you okay?"

"Yes."

Parvati sat up and pushed herself off of him. It was then she saw that his pristine white kurta was covered in blue dye! Some of it even splashed on his face and neck, making him look like an incarnate of Bholenath himself. Parvati couldn't stop the laughter building up within her until it left her mouth. She suddenly burst out laughing. She covered her mouth to try and stifle it, but it was no use. She clutched her stomach as it began to ache, but she simply couldn't stop.

Rudra, on the other hand, sat up and stared at Parvati. He had seen her laugh before, but never like this. She was laughing so much that her stomach was hurting. She pointed at him and continued laughing at his appearance. Rudra felt his heart soar with joy knowing that this was the happy Parvati he always wanted to see. He looked down at himself and, seeing the dye all over him, chuckled heartily. The two of them stared at each other, howling with laughter.

It was in the midst of this that Mala came rushing out into the courtyard. She wanted to see what all the commotion was about, only to be stunned to see the sight before her. Her son was covered in blue dye, and her daughter-in-law was laughing merrily. It wasn't the sight of Rudra, but Parvati that astonished her. Mala had never seen Parvati laughing so wholeheartedly before, but seeing it warmed her heart. She crossed her arms across her chest and laughed.

"What happened here?" she asked with a smile.

Parvati and Rudra's laughter began dying down as they noticed her presence. They slowly stood up, careful not to slip and fall again.

"I slipped and fell," Rudra answered.

"Clearly, but why are you covered in dye?"

"Woh maa-sa," Parvati said as she finally caught her breath. "As he fell, he knocked over the can of blue dye."

"Well, it looks like we'll need to get more blue dye if we decide to dye some more dupattas."

Rudra smirked, "Haha, very funny."

Mala giggled, "You may want to wash that off now or else the color will stay on. And please do it out here, I don't need you leaving blue footprints all over the house. Parvati, why don't you help him? I'll take these dupattas inside."

Mala grabbed the pile of dupattas from the ground and went back inside, leaving Parvati and Rudra alone in the courtyard once again. Rudra looked down at himself, examining how soaked his clothes were. He needed to wash this off quickly. He turned around to ask Paro for help.

"Paro," he said as he turned. "How do I get this d- AHHH!"

Rudra's thoughts remained incomplete a bucket of water was thrown on him. He looked away and covered his face, but it was too late. He was already soaked, and the water washed a portion of the blue dye off of his body. When he finally was able to look, Rudra saw Parvati holding a bucket in her hand, a smile playing on her lips. His eyes widened in shock as he realized what she had done. Oh, Paro is getting playful. Alright then. Rudra then smirked and stood up straight.

"Did you just-," he began.

She laughed, "You should see your face."

"I'll show you!"

Rudra suddenly leaped forward. Knowing him, Parvati sensed this coming and was already prepared. She quickly turned on her heels and made a run for it, just barely escaping his reach. Before he knew it, Rudra was chasing her around the courtyard. It was when she grabbed the hose that he halted in his tracks.

She raised her eyebrow at him mischievously, "Not so tough now, are we?"

He pointed a finger at her and, in a warning tone, said, "Paro, don't you dare."

But it was too late, Parvati had turned the hose on full blast and sprayed him down. Although he tried to cover himself, Rudra was completely soaked from head-to-toe, the blue dye long gone from his body. He tried looking at her while she hosed him down. He couldn't believe that she was doing this. He had never seen her act this way before, but honestly he loved this quirky, playful side of her.

"Pa-Pa-," he shouted while she continued to spray him. "Par- Paro! Stop!"

But she continued what she was doing, laughing as she did so.

"That's it! You asked for it!"

Rudra stepped forward, allowing the water to hit his chest. Parvati gasped and began stepping back. But before she could run away again, he grabbed her wrist and twirled her into him. She landed with her back against his wet chest. Rudra snaked his arm tightly around her waist and pulled her so close to them that there was no space between them, nor was there a way for her to escape. With his other hand, he grabbed the hose and held it over her head, soaking her. She screamed and laughed as she tried to get out of his hold, but it was no use, he was too strong. When Paro was thoroughly drenched, Rudra dropped the hose to the ground. He loosened his grip enough for her to turn his in hold so she was now facing him. She stopped laughing as she caught her breath.

"Now we're even," Rudra said as he flicked her nose.

Parvati grinned. He pulled her back, lifted her, and spun her around. She laughed once again and kept telling him to stop, but he didn't listen. All he did was let out a chuckle. She kept giggling and held on to him so she didn't fall. Rudra continued to spin her around, listening to the sounds of her laughter resound through the courtyard. All the while, he thanked Bholenath for bringing out this side of Paro, and praying that she would always be happy like this.
